ND Uninterested in the Big 10
This is rather predictable posturing from my view. One thing that the article points out is that Big 10 schools make MORE money from their tv deals than ND does. Of course the ND AD can't just come out and say "after our last couple of years of mediocrity we'd be more than happy to join the Big 10."
Then again, maybe they are just that proud of their status as an independent and their "rivalry" with Navy.

Pride
ND can afford to have it. That might be enough for them to deny it.

Big 10's gonna wait until ND caves
They’ll be good with Kelly, not great, and interest in Irish games will go down.
ND better act fast
before their mediocrity becomes drudgery…
Those old codgers really believe that their team will once again become relevant, and are too proud to realize the truth. Big 10 should just suck in Syracuse, Pitt, or Rutgers and end the argument. Then, when the future Vanderbilt comes beggin, you all can say “thanks, but no thanks. Enjoy your new deal with the Catholic channel and enjoy life in the Patriot League.”
Upon moving to AL, I let my wife decide who she would root for. After one day at a new job full of Bama fans, she met me at the door with a hearty cry of "WAR EAGLE"

BearandLions posted this in another thread
Penn State’s endowment is 1.59 Billion
Rutgers is less than a billion
Nebraska is less than 200 million
Notre Dame has 5.5 billion in endowments
The money generated by the football team is a very small slice of the pie — they have plenty of money and I seriously doubt lack of money will be a leading cause for anything ND does for a long long time.

Exactly.
ND doesn’t need the money, and yes, they can afford to have their foolish pride right now.

It's always about the dollars
Funny, Penn State’s $1.59 billion endowment hasn’t stopped them from scheduling 7-8 home games and OOC patsies so they can fill Beaver stadium with more dollars. Hasn’t stopped them from raising tuition to private school like levels.
Don’t fool yourself. ND may not lack for money, but that doesn’t mean they don’t want more of it.

the overall endowment is irrelevant in the athletics funding argument
the endowment could be $10 billion…if the rule is that only money raised or earned by the AD can be used for athletics, then it doesn’t matter how much the university gets in other donations, government funding/contracts, tuition, etc.
not to mention, that PSU raising tuition is just free market economics. if 100,000 people apply to the school every year, why not charge more. if people are willing to pay it (if we were a full on state school, then we couldn’t do that, but we’re more private than public). i do believe however, that tuition should not be raised for those who already go there, meaning, your tuition stays the same as it was when you were a freshman through to graduation (if you stay for a 5th year, you have to pay the current tuition, unless it’s a 5 year program).
wait…what were we talking about again?

if 100,000 people apply to the school every year, why not charge more
Because it’s a public school.
Beat LSU
PSU is more or less a private school that receives public money. If Pennsylvania wants PSU to keep in state tuition at a more modest level, they should actually fund the school at a level that would allow it.
i'd say the state giving PSU 10% of their total budget
isn’t exactly inspiring them to keep tuition low. maybe they like to watch graham go to harrisburg and beg or something.

I say screw ND. Let them become another GWU.
Let’s get Texas, Nebraska and Mizzou and be done with it.
