Jamie Dixon <3s Big East
Jamie Dixon doesn't want Pitt to go anywhere:
With the Big Ten evaluating conference expansion, Pitt men's basketball coach Jamie Dixon made it clear Thursday that his preference is for the Panthers to remain in the Big East.
Calling it the "best conference in college basketball history," Dixon wondered aloud why any of the Big East's eight football and 16 basketball members would want to leave for the 11-member Big Ten.
"We don't have to change, because things are heading in the right direction," Dixon said. "Other conferences may have to look to do things to gain momentum, but our momentum has been consistent since the expansion itself. It's great talk, it's exciting to hear about it and talk about it, but who's really going to improve their position from our conference? Nobody."
Mr. Dixon, you have a call from an S. Party on line one.
And let's not forget this glorious moment in Pitt history, which ESPN won't let me embed.
Basically, even if this were about Jamie Dixon's "OMG BST CONFRANCE EVAAAARRRR," he could kindly kiss my ass. But it's not.
I'd say that's plenty to improve on coach.
What would compel Dixon to say something so ignorant? You'd think the Pitt suits would at least be competent enough to make a phone call to Dixon to say "Hey, lips sealed on this Big 10 shiznit," but the fact that they weren't tells me that A) Pitt isn't serious about a move, and B) We shouldn't be serious about them.
Pitt was 4th place before all of this, and backhanded insults like these should just eliminate them altogether.

Dixon
Like any basketball coach, has to stick up for the Big East. I don’t care about MSU beating some of these teams, the Big East hands down is the best, so why would Dixon want to leave.
It may be different for administrators who want money, but Dixon didn’t do anything wrong by saying this.
Disagree
Dixon isn’t obligated to stick up for the Big East. He could have, and in my opinion, should have, kept his mouth shut. Maybe he wants to stay in the Big East, but ultimately it’s not his decision, and he should tow the company line which to this point, has been to stay quiet. He’s perhaps the most visible athletic figure at the university, and if it turns out Pitt wants to move, he’s gonna look pretty dumb.

It's not his decision
But in what society do we live in where you can’t express his opinion. He doesn’t want to move, so he said it. So what I ask? This doesn’t make him look dumb if they move, he just got his opinion out there.
That's not an opinion you express publicly
It undercuts whatever Pitt might be doing behind the scenes.

I think you're missing my point
Maybe this is the only way he can get his voice heard to the powers that be, so he is using the media to accomplish what he can’t do. I think one certain man named Joe Paterno has mastered this ploy.
I see your point
But he’s clearly misinformed. It’s not about competition, and for him to go out there and act like it is makes him look out of touch with the situation, and therefore, not credible.

DIdn't he also say something about the Big East having the best bowl tie-ins?
Hehe. Oh man. That’s fun.
i am kinda jealous
imagine the Bowl Gifts. a lifetimes supply of spark plugs. yippee
"They say in Happy Valley that if God wasn’t a Penn State fan, why is the sky blue and white?" Fortt said. "Who am I to argue with God?"
when i read this
i started thinking about those Big East commercials where students are texting BE football coaches (maybe sexting?) and they’re all saying how the BE has a good bowl record in the last 3 years (i think they said 12-4 or something, it helps when 2 of your last 3 BCS games are against Wake and choke-artist-supreme Oklahoma) and how they are the most balanced conference yada yada yada…
We decide when you hear the snap count...
West Virginia beat Georgia too
But they’re the only ones carrying the league.

Conference bowl records
Are a useless stat. The Big East either matches up with the MAC teams, or “play down” to a lower-tier team from another conference. Hell, #3 Big East team Pitt is playing UNC, a horrible ACC squad.
The Big Ten typically plays 2 BCS bowls and evenly matches with Big 12 and SEC teams. So yeah, we might lose more than we win, but at least we aren’t getting blanked by Oregon State.
Luring recruits with my new "Posting HD" scheme since '08.
Non-sequitur
USC would have beaten anybody last year.

Would you really consider a 3-0 loss getting "blanked?"
/still hate Pitt though

I can understand
why Dixon likes the Big East as it is, he gets a lot of recruits from NYC that want to play Big East b-ball. But, as was pointed out, Michigan St. beat two #1 seeds from the Big East. The Big East might be a little deeper, but that’s to be expected because there’s like 112 teams that play Big East basketball. And just look at the bowls for this year’s 2nd & 3rd place teams from the respective conferences to see how much better the Big 10’s bowl arrangement is. Joining the Big 10 would be nothing but a bonanza for Pitt.
The Big East is a better basketball league than the Big Ten
The fact that Michigan State pulled a couple of upsets in the tournament doesn’t change that. RIght now, the Big East is probably the best basketball league in the country, if it isn’t, the ACC is. It sure as hell isn’t the Big Ten
Our league doesn’t suck for basketball, and from time to time it is very good. One of the things that I believe is most appealing about the Big Ten is that it’s a strong league across the board, unlike the ACC, SEC and Big East.
Beat LSU
It's the best
But Dixon talks down from Olympus, which is a total joke considering we got 8 teams in last year, and had our champ take down 2 of the best in the Big East.

What do you mean "not-champ"
No one cares about the tournament champion. That’s a bunch of crap. I really wish we didn’t have one.

Oh, yes, the Big East is better
But there was one post on EDSBS by a UConn fan that I found funny. He was (perhaps somewhat jokingly) advocating UConn in the Big Ten, and said Jim Calhoun would “bring a transition game to the Big Ten”. Apparently he forgot Durrell Summers’ now legendary dunk in the NCAAs. Big East fans are the SEC fans of college basketball.

Is the Big East really that much greater than the Big Ten in basketball?
Go back and look at the final four teams in the last decade. The Big Ten is tied with the ACC with 9 teams sent to the final 4. The Big East has sent half that many teams.
To me this sounds more like SEC OMG garbage rhetoric that everyone has bought into only from a basketball standpoint.
They're deeper...
Because they’re bigger. Their best teams aren’t dramatically better than ours but there are more of them, which is why they’re better top to bottom.

Exactly
and they still have such b-ball powerhouses as USF and Rutgers.
Black Shoes. Basic Blues. No Name. All Game.
"Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the mouth."
USF isn't half-bad
It’s DePaul and Rutgers that are the hopeless cases right now. Though USF and Rutgers are the only Big East teams that haven’t made a final four, I’ll give you that.
Michigan State's wins
didn’t look like upsets, they looked like the better team winning. The Big East was overrated all season last year, and part of that is because not every team plays every other team twice because the conference is so large.
You do realize the Big Ten does not play a double round-robin, right?
And almost no conference with >10 schools does (I think there’s one 11-school low-major league that plays a 20-game conference schedule). I mean, ditching the ‘play all 15 schools once and three schools twice’ model and the wacky new conference tournament schedule (I thought all 16 schools should be in, but not the way we did it) is a major reason why I’m something of an advocate for jumping ship.
PITT IS GOING TO BE WORKING OVERTIME TO GET INTO BIG TEN.
I don’t believe that Dixon will get a vote.
Pitt will get $15 to $20 million per year more being in the BIg Ten.
GAME OVER.
SCOREBOARD DIXON!

Nice call-out on the conference score board.
"Every player we have, someone-maybe a parent, a grandparent, someone-poured their soul into that young man. They are handing that young man off to us. They are giving us their treasure, and it's our job to make sure we give them back that young man intact and ready to face the world."
-J.V.Pa.
Pitt doesn't want to play us
They are holding a grudge against Joepa for going to the Big10 first. They don’t want a home and home.
You are kidding yourself.
Pitt would love a home-and-home. Dave Wannstedt from a November interview: "We need to be playing Penn State. I was on the job about a month and I talked to Coach Paterno about it. It probably won’t happen until he retires and I understand that. It’s his prerogative.
Who’s holding the grudge?
Slippery Rock FTW!
