Gee

Lobby for BCS bids much.

I say let's rock the Orange Bowl, because nobody will remember in five years anyway.

As a fan

I’m a little uncomfortable with being pimped so obviously for the BCS bid. We all realize that PSU brings eyeballs and ticket sales, but this seems a little heavy-handed and blatant.

It's a little embarassing

But I can’t blame them. It is what is. Straight cash homie.

Those Rose Bowl attendance numbers are a little shady

I doubt we had the numbers USC did.

yeah, it seemed more 60% them, 40% us

but it is hard to tell in the more mixed sections, since the red will stand out much more than the white.

by The JuggerNitt on Dec 4, 2009 1:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

and I also bet they're just counting that we sold as much "allotment" as they did

but then there’s the tickets for Pasadena residents, etc., that all likely went to USC fans, plus any tickets scalped out there were more likely to USC fans as well.

by The JuggerNitt on Dec 4, 2009 2:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Honestly, I thought it was 60/40 too

but like you said, it’s hard to tell (I was actually kind of surprised we had as many as we did in the stands, but I guess I kind of underestimate the power of PSU), but one things for sure, we were louder than they were, which couldn’t have made me more proud especially in the face of how the game was going.

If you look at that overhead shot of the RB, we’ve got it pretty solid from the middle of the PSU endzone to 50 yard line, plus that little island of white for some reason stuck behind the USC sideline , then it looks to be about 60/40 from the 50 yard line to half of the USC endzone, and you can pick out spots of white in the sea of demonic red.

I don’t know what the hell possessed me to do math to figure this out, but say we were solid for 25% of the stadium, then had that 60/40 ratio for the other quarter of “our” side of the stadium, thats 25%+(60% of 25%=15%) = exactly 40%, but adding in the wayward PSU fan stuck in the middle of hell surrounded by USC fans, it could be closer to 45% PSU 55% USC fans, still a pretty respectable margin given it’s “essentially a home game for USC”.

Excellent work, Mister Curley

I love the Orange Bowl stat

2007 Orange Bowl: Louisville (!) and Wake Forest (!)
2008 Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech and Kansas
2009 Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech and Cincy (!)

Those poor reps just can’t get a decent matchup

I've had Orange Bowl tickets since 2005

and every year I lose so much money on them. Last year, I had 4 tickets (2 uppers and 2 lowers)…face value was somewhere around $600. I sold all 4 for $96 TOTAL. No one wants to see VT play Cincy. What a waste of a perfectly good bowl game.

that's what happens when you have an auto-bid with one of the worst 2 conferences

since all the bowls (but the Rose Bowl) are stuck 2/3 years with the last pick or the second to last pick, so they’re pretty much guaranteed at best a “meh” matchup, and 2/3 times a “you couldn’t pay me to watch” matchup. 2005 they got lucky with the storyline.

by The JuggerNitt on Dec 4, 2009 1:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

worst 2 conferences?

I’m pretty sure the ACC is a superconference, a combination of all the best teams from the east, and that they are awesome.

Wow.

As a fan, I feel kind of used being pimped out like that. But hey, the man’s gotta do to bring home the cash money. Time for me to hit the street corner.

Actually

I thought Curley was saying that Penn State fans were the ones making it rain …

I know it's totally naive of me, but this is a video posted on our football team's website

thats filled with pump up videos, player video bios, and game recaps. Unless it was actually sent to the BCS reps, no one who doesn’t know about the website is going to see it. While this may very well be aimed at a BCS bowl rep, I think it’s mainly to pump up the fans for the bowl game. You guys are sooo cynical, you act like all the AD cares about is money, lol.

by dawsonPSU10 on Dec 4, 2009 5:45 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Why not

make the money if it’s there…you really don’t think that WE ARE the only team/Program that doesn’t/shouldn’t go for it ? Let’s not act naive…IOWAY is way ahead of us and has the backing and promo of Big Cheese Delaney believe me…PSU promo is part of the public pitch and a few people know a lot about the behind the scenes push…hard to believe, but nice catch-up CurleyQ…it had to be done or NO BCS as arrogant as we may want to be…and I live and die for PSU for many more years than I want to admit.
