Doc Saturday on the 'Game(s) of the Century'
In case anybody comments, add'l linky. What I found most interesting in this article was this little nugget reference to our history as a 'Mid-major:'
"No. 1 Texas 15, No. 2 Arkansas 14 (1969)
Michigan's upset of No. 1 Ohio State two weeks earlier made this SWC showdown -- the only major game scheduled for Dec. 6 that season -- one of the most watched, most hyped college games in history, leading President Richard Nixon to award Texas with a plaque declaring the Longhorns "national champions" in the locker room after the game. (Good thing they backed him up by beating Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl.) All of which came to the eternal chagrin of Joe Paterno, whose second straight undefeated season at Penn State -- something of the Cincinnati of its day -- was rewarded with a plaque for owning the nation's longest winning streak."

When Joe does finally die
He’s going to seek out Nixon, and crotchpunch him for ’ol times sake.

LOL!
Ha, indeed! That is a funny image, my friend.
JoePa at the Pearly Gates:
St. Peter: You’ve led a pretty righteous path down there, Joe. Have you got anything to say for yourself?
JoePa: Not really. That’s just how Angelo raised me. I got a little lucky here and there, found a wonderful woman, was able to keep some good people on my staff, and we did some things.
St. Peter: God has decided to reward you with one last indiscretion, what will it be?
JoePa: Well, jeesh, I dunno, that’s not really my style. But…umm…
St. Peter: Yes?
JoePa: That Nixon always rubbed me the wrong way, I wouldn’t mind a word or two with him.
St. Peter: Well, uh, yeah. He has a somewhat different residence, but we could organize a short elevator trip.

Actually, it's a little known fact
but that annual trip takes “down the shore” to Avalon is actually a trip to the grave of Nixon so he can piss on it. Just FYI.
