Wow
I’m having a lot of fun browsing some other blogs these days. It’s an exciting time, here at the beginning of bowl season, when matchups first become apparent and blogistani fans wander across borders for new opponent MeatNGreets. Mods of both sides get taxed as commenters run the gamut from gentle intentions of Class, to a deftly-wielded Poking Stick, to Outright Trolling. Reactions range from warnings to threats to banhammers, depending upon which living room is doing the hosting.
The BHGP / Boise interaction is an interesting class of cultures, both of whose fanbases suffer from similar ‘disrespect,’ tho for different reasons. And neither has been shy about pointing the others’ out to them. And poor Sam over at Terry Porter continues to try to fight the good fight, despite his own fanbase’s’ high percentage of douchery. And now he’s got Duck fans coming in for banter. The more I think about it, I’m not terribly sad that Oregon won that Civil War, cuz Beaver fans are so freaking cool it would have been tough to toe the conference line in the Rose Bowl. But Duck fans look like they might make it a little easier to stomach rooting for Brutus.

Can Rutgers hang with West Virginia today?
They’re both 8-3, with splits against common opponents. Both lost to Cinci, both beat Uconn. Rutgers dropped a late one to Cuse, who WV dominated midseason (btw, did anybody notice the Orange Flopper in the top 10 of passing efficiency?)(although he’s about .500 on TD/INT and is 83rd in Ypg). But WV dropped one in South Florida, and Rutgers blanked them at home. And there was the Pitt split, both close games.
I can’t tell where each of those programs is headed. Schiano is probably more secure, but he desperately needs a new topshelf score like Ray Rice. His recruiting cupboard looks pretty bare. While WV seems to have a pretty decent class coming in (rivals).
Most importantly, does anybody here care? That bit of reading and writing just crushed my cumulative 09 Big East contemplation by about 180%

Ok, gotta finish off these noon games
And what about Houston? First will they win today? East Carolina’s (not to be confused with Carolineasy) only dropped one conference game (to 7-5 SMU) but looks like they took significant beatings at the hands of WVU, UNC & Va Tech. And Houston, after famously taking down the I’m a Man Cowboys early has since fallen to 4-8 UTEP in a (surprise) shootout and 8-4 UCF.
But Case Keenum. My word. 4900 yards, 70% completion and my favorite: 38 TDs against just 6 INTs. For comparison, our boy DC17, threw for 2800 yards, 62% completion rate and went 23/10 on passing tds/ints. Of course, he threw an average of 20 fewer attempts per game and was part of an offense that rushed the ball 427 times, while Houston only attempted 367. Actually, that’s not much of a difference, given the pass attempts disparity. Jeesh, Houston musta run….yep, they ran over 200 more plays than we did. I wonder how much that difference woulda been if they played Iowa and OSU. I wish CFB stats counted possessions as well. Would be interesting to see the differences in avg plays per possession, especially with all our 3and outs against heyward and clayborn.

Also if Pitt wins and Fugi Prognostico proves prescient, I’m joining jesse. and his road trip!

Already done.
When PSU plays, I run for a lot longer. A lot of nervous energy so I run during WWL gameday. I (very obviously) don’t think he will prove prescient, but if he does, I’ll drive to Pittsburgh to get in on that action. Or follow behind if I must. I think that would be entertaining.

Sad news
Alright, I know this is gonna rip some of you (2 of you) apart, but I gotta vominos. Gear up for a snowtrip to the 717 for two grand, grand football-interrupting events: an 88th birthday party and a funeral. Good times.
Do me a solid, and keep the fun running in here. As I dodge douchey drivers on 270, I’ll take comfort thinking of this placid place. You’ll all be part of the imaginary open thread in my head.

What do you guys think of Lactaid?
I’m not intolerant of lactose, but this stuff tastes so great. We rock the Fat Free and it’s yummy. And, if you go days without cereal, it lasts far longer in your fridge than regular milk. I’m a big fan. You?

don’t forget SPITT still chants Penn State sucks in the middle of their fight song no matter what the event…You stay Classy Spitt !!!
I think "encouraged" is the right term
But not many students do it regardless. Might find different sentiments in the alumni sections, though.
Gotcha, thanks
So I take it you’d the hatred for Penn State from the students/younger alumni is, similarly to Penn State, much less poignant than it is in the older alumni?
Unfortunately
Unless someone has strong family emotion one or both sides, feelings are usually pretty subdued. Occasionally you’ll get personal grudges over athletic recruiting or scholarships/academic programs but those are a different sort of hate, I think.
But consider how little they’ve played each other in the last 18-22 years; not recently and even before then, few games of note or consequence. Not many memories for college-age folk to draw upon.
Yeah I get it.
Easily because I’m experiencing it on the other side lol. I’m a senior @ PSU now, and I barely have feelings of dislike for Pitt.

Pretty entertaining Big East football game right here, for this non-Big East football fan. Both those drives were physical and showed a lot of fortitude. I suspect it will settle down and will NOT actually be a shootout, but each one contained lots of studly runs and physical trench play.

will it be for Cincy Coach recruitment to ND if Cincy looses? ND continues to recruit him if Cincy D plays like shitt against Pitt?

That's been the debate
The one side is that a rivalry game like that would get a draw, so a bowl like the Fiesta Bowl would try to pull it together. The other side of the debate is that the “rivalry” is slightly overrated and that a regional match-up is a ratings killer.
Both sides make valid points, but who knows what the bowl peoples are thinking.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
PSU wants it, Guido made a video about our traveling prowess
Can’t really tell how much fans want it. Many want a Sexy matchup over a decent opponent. Some want the Florida location (cap one, not bcs). Some feel sheepish about our money being chosen over Iowa’s when they crushed us at home. Some don’t care and love keeping Iowa out of the big three and not a Top Tier team.

we’re looking at LSU in the Cap One? Depending on who we would get in a BCS game, I think I would like that better. A winnable game over an SEC team would work for me.

Thoughts.
Will this help or hurt the chance of a NC rematch? On the one hand, TCU is the closest to the top 3. Assuming Texas loses, would the people ranking Cincy highly give that 3rd place spot in the human polls to the SEC title game loser (or even worse give them the 2nd place vote)? Because if so, the computers are so heavily favoring Floribama that a close human vote would result in a rematch.
Pitt has this in the bag.

But I am hear by declaring that punting formation the “Gentleman’s Punt.” Truly, Natti was showing their sportsmanship by refusing to rush in the huge goddamn gaps between blockers to try to get a piece of it.
