I know this is a long-shot but...
...does anyone know of any sports bars (pubs?) in London that broadcast American college football and would be likely to show the Capital One Bowl? I'm going to be in London over New Years, and since Kirk Ferentz is apparently in bed (literally) with the Orange Bowl, I'm now going to have to find a way to get the game over there... Anyone who lives, has lived, or even just visited on the other side of the pond have any suggestions?

I was in London in September and
personally didn’t come across any (although I didn’t specifically look for one). However, you got my curiousity and a first google search brought me to this.

My wife’s home office is in London (west side). Her boss is a good guy. If the above doesn’t give you the leads you are after, I’ll query him.

i bet
that unfortunately you’ll get stuck streaming it over the internet. but best of luck to you
I've had good luck....
….in Mexico just finding a sports bar and promising my patronage if they show the game.
I imagine the game will be on ESPN, and you have to think most international sports satellite packages would have that.
Usually the game is on ABC
It’s the Outback that’s on ESPN.
Having lived in London these would be my first two choices,
The Sports Cafe near Piccadilly Circus shows nearly every big (Capital One bowl should qualify) American football game live and will always stay open until the game is over. There is also Bodean’s BBQ which is a chain of American BBQ joints. They don’t show as wide a selection of games with their Soho location showing the most. Of those they do show, some are tape delayed, but they serve the best barbecue you will find in England. FYI Bodean’s rarely stays open past its normal closing time. This shouldn’t be a problem for the Capital One bowl, but if you plan on watching any BCS games there, be prepared to be kicked out before the game is over. Just a heads up, this info is 2+ years old, so you should probably double check with whichever place you chose.

Agreed
The Sports Cafe is a great place…i watched most of last season there. If you go there just make sure to call ahead so you can convince them to show that game. Sometimes there will be a scheduling conflict and they’ll decide to show some other game. Also plan on showing up early so you can get a seat or even a view of the TV.
Sports Cafe on Haymarket
I went there to watch the NFL playoffs in 2008. All games live. Pretty cool place, good wings, reasonably price beers. Also, I know that they showed the BCS bowls, although I did not personally watch them there.

A rec to both of you for recommending Sports Cafe
I just checked out their web site, and apparently they showed Pitt v. Cincy and Alabama v. Florida this past Saturday, so that gives me hope that they’ll show the Cap 1 Bowl on New Years. Cheers
I love how you clarified that you were looking for "American" football.
As if you’d come here looking for a spot to watch English Premier League games.
If all else fails, watching it streaming is never a bad option.
Well knowing the level of sarcasm from posters on BSD
clarifying “American football” was probably the safest way to phrase that, otherwise, it was open season.
Are you aware
of a reliable way to stream it internationally? ‘Cause if so I’m definitely up for that. I don’t think I’ll be able to get ESPN360 over there though…
Slingbox works pretty well
Had to use mine for a few early games in Cali. Plus theyre worth having around for other events when trapped in your office.
If you have certain internet providers, you can log into espn360 from their main site
and then proceed to watch espn360 on any ISP. Verizon does this.
I got no peeps in the 011 44 20
My only mate pissed off back to Edinburg. Had quite enough of the poms and their pomminess.
