JOEPA, STOOPS IN PLAY FOR SON OF SIMMS?
this sounds intersting read it over on collegefootballtalk.com:
here is the article link and story below:
http://www.collegefootballtalk.com/2009/02/13/joepa-stoops-in-play-for-son-of-simms/
Former Louisville quarterback Matt Simms, son of NFL legend Phil Simms, will attend El Camino Community College in Torrance, CA, before moving back into Div. 1-A in 2010, Simms’ father told a Louisville radio station yesterday.
"He’s excited about it, and I am excited about it for him, too," Phil Simms told the radio station. "He’s disappointed, and I am disappointed that it did not work out in Louisville. Why? I don’t know. But that’s just the way it is. When you are not wanted, leave."
The younger Simms decided to transfer from Louisville following the end of the 2008 season, partly because of the signing of a JUCO QB and partly because of the departure of offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm.
A source familiar with the situation told Vinny DeTrani of NewJersey.com that the younger Simms was considering both Penn State and Oklahoma.

Initial reaction
Meh. He seems like he wants to be a starter and he might run into a road block with our program if that’s the case. Our offense definitely seems to be trending towards a different style of QB.
But I’m shooting from the hip in my thinking that Simms isn’t a mobile QB.

I have a hard time getting excited about this too
especially since it didn’t work out for him at Louisville. Very doubtful that he’ll become even the next Anthony Morelli after bombing out at Louisville.

I'll take him, maybe he just grew up a little.
DC is a bit injury prone, always good to have top talent at your school.
If Newsome is that good, he will beat out Simms

No
PSU doesn’t need Louisville’s backups. Apparently the Simms screwed JoePa over with Chris so I doubt Joe would be willing to help that family out.

Now maybe if it was a Rutgers backup.....

exactly
Chris Simms recruitment was a cluster (much like Henne, Smoker, etc)
Matt Simms doesn’t want to compete for a job and wants it handed to him. How about we go after Nate Montana?
We like kids that need to be developed. Our track record with 5* QBs (i’m refering to QB14 to those new to the site) is not great. MRob, DC, Zack Attack, we can work with moldable clay.
And seriously, Oklahoma…Bob Stoops gets Blue Chip QBs every year…he doesn’t need a Matt Simms. Maybe he should take a longer look at Rutgers or go play for the Stache at Shittsburgh

Err...the reason for the QB recruitment cluster F is not the player...someone at PSU messed up.
There is no reason we wiffed on Kendra, Powlus, Henne, Smoker, Simms, etc…ever think it was the PSU system and inability to develop pro QB?

I think we're looking at this wrong...
If he wants to be on the team, he knows he’s going to have to fight for his spot. If he doesn’t want to fight for it, he won’t join the team. (Lord knows Joe isn’t going to promise some kid a starting spot just because of his last name – unless that last name is Zug.)
So if he’s going to join the team, it’s because he knows his role and wants to be here. (If he doesn’t like the option, he’ll go somewhere else.) And I won’t say no to depth at the QB position, considering the “fiasco” we went through all of 2 months ago.

Well he won't be here til 2010 anyways
By that time we will be putting in a new QB because Clark will be done at the end of this year. I wander how many years he will have left. Will be like that OSU qb that was 26 or something before graduating.

He will have 2 years left.
He was a redshirt Freshmen this year. Playing Juco ball this year. That leaves him Junior and Senior year.

a JuCo transfer QB?
No chance.
We hate JuCo transfers, even the few we actually take, which is pretty much none, with the exception of the the two guys they took for offensive line depth that have never seen the field.

3
I think 3 is the total number of JUCOs taken by PSU in history.

Sounds like hype story...
for Matt Sims. Does anyone really want this kid at PSU after what Phil and Chris Sims did to JoePA?
Agreed with the other postings – sounds like he couldn’t cut it L-Ville. What about Morehead State Phil?

This doesn't make a lot of sense.
Sims was not a “top” rated QB coming out in 2007. We’ve debated stars to the n’th power here, but he was a concensus 3-star. He obviously has some good football genes, but he really seems to be a Louisville level recruit. If JoPa took a shot at him, it would be a situation like the two JC’s we have on the team. We just need a bit of “quality” depth at QB and possibly scout team player. For the Sims’ family, he would be close to home (Rutgers would be closer!) but from PSU’s angle, it doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Football Genes
Phil played good in one Super Bowl. The Giants defense had a little something to say in those runs. Just to illustrate how big a role that defense played, the second Super Bowl was won by Jeff Hostetler, a cast off that couldn’t get on the field at Penn State.
Chris Simms didn’t exactly impress me at Texas, or with any of the NFL teams he’s played for.
We really need the third best quarterback in the Simms family, as a JuCo transfer no less? I suspect that he’s not getting a ton of interest from Penn State.
