This is why I hate draft player projections and the whole process surrounding it - including under-classmen getting too excited about the possibilties of going pro based on the projections of NFL outsiders thinking they know a thing or two.
Sure they have more insight than the avergae Joe, they have probably done it for years and thus some experience, but do they really know as much as the players and fans seem to think they know, especially the average Joe college football player who is blinded by all the hype he may or may not receive. I think we assume we are hearing from experts.
Honestly, do these guys even see all the tapes of all the players and all the games they have played, I doubt it. They know what the NFL teams should want or need during the draft. The know how many players may be available at a certain position, but do they really know the players? I don't think so. I mean, anyone who reads this blog and follows Penn State football could probably analyze our players better than those guys pre-combine, right?
Maybe I'm off base here, I just think the system is bad and I don't like the idea of a projection system telling, basically a kid, he should or shouldn't gamble with his future. Leave to early and you could be done, leave too late and you could passed up. I understand some of that type of analysis will always and should occur but I feel the current sytem, along with media hype and pressure, along with a kid's dreams and hopes to play in the NFL blind him from making the best possible decision.
Now, this article isn't all bad for our Maybin, and it's clear some people still project him high - but some project him fourth! What? I'm not leaving after one sophomore year to the NFL unless there is concensus I'm a first-rounder. And how about the other kids? Did they receive mixed reviews pre-combine, or were they too projected by a biased source and blinded by the hype of the media and the NFL who needed to have certain positions stocked and available to choose from to fill their needs?
Aight, now i'm just rambling, on to the article and draw your own conclusions. I may just be upset becasue we did lose an outstanding college football player to a draft where some REAL experts are projecting him a fourth rounder. Rediculous.
