Bumped from the Fanposts. Thanks to Gunslinger for a recap of the baseball season opener.
Well the hopes of a 3-0 start to the season were squashed yesterday as the Nittany Lions got beat pretty handily by St. John's. Mike Lorenston got the loss, giving up 7 earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. This isn't necessarily to be expected, but baseball is usually known for starting slow, which is the main reason every year that they are one of the best teams in the Big Ten and don't go to the NCAA tournament. Freshman Ryan Ignas, Calvin Grumley, Footballer/Pitcher Jesse Alfreno, and transfer Drew Palen all pitched in relief. Despite the start I really think this team is going to put it all together, it's just a matter of.....when?...just like every year.
The Lions take on Northwestern in a Non-Conference intra-conference game today at 1:00PM in St. Petersburg, Florida. The starting pitcher for the Nittany Lions will be power-arm Scott Kelley.
