The PSU baseball team bounced back nicely today when they beat up on Northwestern 9-1 down in St. Petersburg, Fla. as part of the Big East-Big Ten Challenge. (Big East didn't bring enough teams so there's some Big Ten match-ups) Scott Kelley and Cory Wine both shined with Kelley starting pitching and going 5 2/3 innings. Kelley struck out five and walked three. He surrendered five hits and one earned run in his first start in the last two years. Cory Wine went 2 for 4 with 3 rbi and 3 runs scored. Wine's hits were a double and a triple in clutch situations. Michael Glantz and Grant Youngblood also had multi-hits games for the Nittany Lions. Pitching flawless relief were David Lutz, Mike Pierce, and Paul Cianciolo.
This is a great turnaround from yesterday's game, and hopefully it will be the true face of the team this year. In the next game, the Lions will take on Georgetown at Jack Russell Stadium in Clearwater, Florida. First pitch is at 10am.
