Penn State '09 = Temple '89
David Jones addresses our concerns about PSU not appearing to have much of an offensive plan:
Now, nobody is calling Penn State pretty. Neither were those Temple teams. But don't confuse picturesque offense with efficient offense. On a points-per-trip basis, PSU is among the top 18 percent of all Division I teams. The Nits score 108.7 points per 100 possessions -- 65th-best among 343 teams according to Ken Pomeroy (kenpom.com).
How can this be when they look so inefficient so often? Two reasons: They shoot treys very well and they don't turn the ball over. It's dumbed-down basketball. But for them it has worked.

Not a bad analogy, BUT...
What’s he’s missing is the defense. Temple was an absolute nightmare to play against with their match-up zone. No matter what the talent differential, Temple’s D always kept them in games. Hence the multiple trips to the sweet 16 & elite 8 year after year.
What Jones is also missing is the talent level. Guys like Macon, Aaron McKie, Eddie Jones, Duane Causwell, Marc Jackson, Mark Strickland, Tim Perry… christ even Pepe Sanchez played a few years in the NBA. II’m sure I’m missing a dozen others, but those were off the top of my head. t’s one thing for Stanley Pringle to dribble around and then jack up a 3. Its another thing for Aaron McKie to do it.
