3 of a kind? A Pair? Just give me ONE!
Okay... I didn't want to start acting crazy one day before the NSD, but I couldn't help myself. Here are some of my thoughts (in no particular order)... and I would like to hear others thoughts as well:
- I hear everyone talk about Jenkins loving Florida especially since Spikes is coming back? What the hell does that suppose to mean? I would think this kid wants to play... sooner rather than later? Espcially since Jarvis Jones (strongly considering Florida) and Jon Bostic (already committed to Florida), both OLB who are bigger and as fast as Jenkins. Penn State, we have LB... yes... but we don't have the OLB that have this much speed. He will start at State sooner than he would at Florida. Plus in regards to Spikes forgoing the draft~ who cares! LJ Sr. stayed... bigger plus for Jenkins in my opionion.
- Justin Brown... I'm not sure what to think about this kid. Couple months ago, I though we had 'em locked up. Now I hear he's good friends with Savage (commit to Rutgers), that they have 'good communication'... ugh~ What?!?! Doesn't any of OUR commits like Hodges and Kersey talk to this kid? I mean both of these kids finally realized that the Rutgers program isn't what its cracked up to be. Most likely they realize that Schiano has a better chance of leaving in the next 3 to 4 years than Joepa! If he needs to be in contact with anyone its should be those two, not the numbnut 4 star QB going to Rutgers. (was that too harsh?)
- Noel... I read one tid-bit about this kid. All I know is he was going to commit to BC but is waiting and giving State his last careful consideration before he makes his final decision. I don't know anything about this guy... anyone know more? He's listed at 6'4 and runs a 4.48... wow.
In reality, even without any of these guys State has done extremely well imop, however, WR corp is in much need of a big-time talent for the future... we need a backup plan in case Zug decides to go in the draft next year. ZUG DON'T GO!

Some good news...
These guys are still predicting that both Brown and Jenkins will be ours, with Jenkins still showing a very strong likelihood.
As for Noel, I have more questions the more I look at him. Six feet four inches with his speed sounds good, but 6’4" and 180 pounds makes me wonder how he’s made it this far without being snapped in half on the field. …and if he were to bulk up a little, would he lose the speed (a la Derrick Williams in his sophomore year).
No matter what, though, I agree that we really need at least a couple of standout wide receivers in the next class if not sooner. On the brighter side, we recruited the hell out of DBs this year, so apparently Red and the staff seem to be on the same page as the rest of us. Not that we’re all right, but at least there’ll be less bitching…

AAARRRRGGG!
After reading Mike’s comments on the Altoona Mirror’s article, then yours and HailState77’s post here…don’t know what to think??? Think I’ll play like Punxsutawney Phil , go back to sleep, wake up in six weeks and find out what happened concerning NSD. Starting to get “stressed out” over all of this!! By then it will be almost time for the Blue/White game. We’ll probably find that all of this dribble was for naught!
I'm going NUTS!
It’s only been a month since the end of Penn State football and I’m already shaking. It being SO SO SO close to NSD is making this worse. Signing Jenkins and Brown will let me have happy dreams for months!
I like the idea of a groundhog predicting the committments! Can we pitch in money to buy a GROUNDHOG??? or at least rent one every year a week before NSD?
I smell gopher poontang!

They're gonna do what they're gonna do...
I admit that I like to follow the recruiting process (at least when we’re doing well), but whenever I’m at risk of losing sleep over what a prospect is going to decide, I just remind myself that we’re talking about the decision-making processes of 17-18 year old kids.
You’re better off trying to herd cats than predicting what one of them is going to do.

Kinda feels like Christmas Eve
I’m excited to see what presents we get tomorrow.

I just hope it’s the shiny red bike and not tube socks.

Recent QB recruiting
A couple of years ago we got a shiny red bike and ended up busting our collective ass on the pavement.
Then the next year we got some pimpin’ tube socks that practically got us laid all by themselves.

Are you talking about the ones that were put on layaway in 2004 and then we finally got them in 2005? Are these the pair?

For the record,
Uncle Jay put them on layaway in ’05 and we got them in ’06, but close enough.
This makes me wonder if we’ll see tube socks with ‘17’ printed on them in Black Shoe Shirts and Pants any time soon…

Actually
Uncle Jay put them on layaway at the Kiski store in 2004. Then in 2005 he gave them to us along with a cool red shirt. It’s okay, it’s been a long time and it’s easy to misremember. :-)
Thanks for understanding
I forgot about the redshirt in there… just doing the math from ’09 put me back to ’06.
Oh well, if I can’t screw up in front of family, then what’s the good of having you all.

well it wasn't so much the colored shits
as much as the Kiski. If D-Will and Clark came in the same year, and Clark redshirted, then Clark would graduate 1 year after D-Will, which is what is happening. But I forgot that Clark got that extra year due to the good grades (or whatever the exact situation was)

Coverage of NSD
Will any of the action be on TV that is accessible to people without an ESPNU account? Will BSD have some sort of live thread that I can tune into for the announcements?
I just saw this on ESPN BLOG
ESPN2 will broadcast a special hour-long edition of College Football Live at 2 p.m. ET, and I will be chatting about signing day at 11:15 a.m. ET.
the crystal ball says...
we’ll get 2 out of the remaining 3. Which 2 I’m not 100% sure of, but my gut says we land Brown and Noel and lose out on Jenkins.
For Brown, I think he’s always been leaning toward PSU, and part of me thinks he just put off the decision so that he could get some tv time on signing day ( wouldn’t be the 1st or last teenager to do such a thing… ) If he truly is torn, I feel he still picks PSU because I know when I’m torn, I go with my initial choice.
For Noel, I think BC is definitely out for him now that Jags is gone. PSU seems to be the only other school Noel is really talking about, so I think we snag him. Had Jags stayed, this wouldn’t even be a discussion… funny how things like that happen
For Jenkins, I think he knows he’s a hot commodity and the recent trends of high profile athletes when it comes to recruiting seems to favor the sexiest name on the list (Florida in this case). If you disagree with me, look no further than Broderick Green(USC), Vidal Hazelton(USC), Golden Tate(ND), Deion WalkerND). Hazelton all but admitted USC was a huge mistake for him to choose (and perhaps if he looked at their roster and depth chart, that would have occurred to him sooner), but that didn’t stop him on Signing Day. I wouldn’t be shocked if Jenkins picks PSU, but I would be moderately surprised.

*nodding...
I agree on the last paragraph… why kids choose to goto schools that are stacked at their positions???
For the same reason why I went out with girls that had nice pair of “EYES” instead of personality.
Same reason why I went to the bars more than the library… Same reason why I enlisted in the army instead of going to grad school!!!! Just because it looks fun, doesn’t mean that its going to pay off in the end. Jelani, if your listening… feel my pain.
2 out of 3 ain't bad
Meatloaf is slightly better than the whole Abba/Madonna/mashed potato thing going on in the bball thread.

Sirens
Mike,
I know those things are expensive, but have you blown the BSD budget and ordered in three sirens or are you hedging your bets?
My favorite part of those sirens is the “WHOOOOOOO” underneath them. Odd I know, but I giggle to myself everytime i see it!

I'd pay extra to actually hear
the “Wooo Woooooooooo” from the tailpipe whistler bit when I see those sirens.

said “there isn’t a doubt in [his] mind” Jenkins is going to Florida. The discussion was between Alabama and Florida, and Penn State was never mentioned.
I hope they’re wrong but I know Jenkins isn’t the kind of kid we land — and I’m happier knowing that players like Sean Lee and Bowman weren’t 5-star recruits but are still going to keep Linebacker U here to stay…
If anyone thought Jenkins was really interested in PSU, he wouldn’t be a 5-star anyway.
"We hugged as grown men do. It was a great moment. Then, it was business as usual." -- LJ Sr.
WOW...Alabama came out of the woodwork!
All along it seemed to be UF, PSU and maybe USC. He’s supposedly a really bright kid. It wouldn’t surprise me if a Stanford or ND (or even Duke..LOL) came out of nowhere at the last second but he’d be crazy to go to Bama. All their good players come from Foley or Hoover or Gadson or one of those places in the swamps. It is interesting, however, that Bama has a verbal from the #2 middle backer, so maybe Jelani met him at a camp or somewhere??
Well that's curious...
I’m trying to figure out how he puts it as between UF and ‘Bama when Jenkins hasn’t been considered to be on ’Bama’s radar, at least since he culled his prospects the last time.
I smell preemptive SEC stroking….

I call Bulls**t
The World Wide Bleeder of Sports integrity will say anything because they have a monopoly on the sporting world and, consequently, are above reproach when reporting news of any sort. Afterall kids, its sports, which is entertainment and therefore not held to the same reporting standards of integrity as, well, anyone else on the planet…. Long rant short… Jenkins is either Florida or PSU bound, period. I acknowledge that anything can happen on LOI day, but there are no other schools on the radar for his services. He took an in home visit from Meyer, than one from LJ Sr. not too long after, than closed up his house to visitors. Not sure how an out-of-nowhere dark horse can score a recruiting coup without getting a face to face with the kid and his parents after the 2 front-runners did. ESPN is a collective anti-Christ of overt favoritism and every letter (with the exception of Rittenberg and Kirk Herbstreit most of the time) typed on their website, and every syllable spoken by their “experts” (how one becomes an expert on sports and conjecture is questionable to me) should be taken with BARRELS of salt.
