Recruiting Ranking Inconsistencies

So after looking at Scout who rated us #10, i was stoked (and I still am, we got great class, filling all our needs!) i saw that Espn ranked #16, and Rivals ranked us even lower at #25!  I just dont get how there can be so much change.  i think it takes away from the excitement of the day.  it's lame.  I guess it doesnt really matter in the long run.  We got a great class and will be competitive in the years to come.  Hopefully we can get a streak of our own against scUm and OSU.

I think...

We will definitely establish ourselves as one of the top 3 in the Big Ten (take that for what it is worth) and we will compete for the Big Ten title along with OSU over the next several years and scUM will join the party in 2010.

It is up to PSU, OSU and scUM to put the Big Ten back on the map. I think all three schools need to realize that the respect of the conference is in their hands. It begins this year with the Buckeyes against USC and will end in January with PSU whooping an OMG ESSSS EEEEEE SEEEE team in Pasadena.

WE ARE.......PENN STATE!

Agreed, we have to keep running with the bulls (tOSU and scUM)

Pre PSU, the Big 10 used to be the Big 2, and the Bottom 8 (I lived in Big Ten country during those years). It’s morphing back to where the other 8 are not keeping up. Ill and MSU do OK at recruiting but except for flashes, don’t develop them. But, the others are really struggling. They get little respect whether it be from recruits, sports writers, coaches, or even bloggers. Saw where NW signed teir 1st 4-star since 2002, and he’s a lineman! It looks like Wisc is slipping down a steep slope and Minnesota gets a lot of hype but no results. Even though scUM hired (did I say hired?) 8 kids from Florida this year, it’s getting very tough to keep the best kids from wanting to play in the SEC, like it or not! I think the new regime will really get Tennessee back to a top program. I am afraid our Big 10 schedule, with the exception of tOSU and scUM, will begin to look like our OOC plan!

"I am afraid our Big 10 schedule will begin to look like our OOC plan!"

That’s why we need to find better OOC opponents. The Big10 as a whole, for whatever reasons, seems to be getting worse. And as teams get worse, less recruits are interesetd in the Big10, and it all continues to spiral downward.

One can only hope that our upcoming series with Alabama will be the start of a new trend.

Nebraska

Nebraska better get it’s f’ing s together by 2012 so that series means something.

Still, I would rather schedule a bad Nebraska than

Coastal Carolina or Eastern Illinois.

There’s at least a chance they will be competitive by game time.

The way things go

Of course the way things go with scheduling those series, Bama will probably suck again by the the time we play them a la Syracuse.

Well, I don’t think ’Bama’ll suck too badly in just a year’s time. ;)

see Michigan 2006

and Michigan 2007-8

Went from being the #2 team in the country right before the OSU game, then there was last year and even worse, this year.

Bama will be just as good...

They had several true freshman starting for their team this year, including WR Julio Jones, the #1 offensive recruit in the nation according to some last year. He had a very good year for a freshman, and will probably continue to get better as he fills out his frame. Add to that the fact that they had a top 5 recruiting class this year and you’re looking at a very talented Alabama team by the time we play them in 2010 and 2011. Honestly, I hope our guys will be up to the challenge, because Bama will probably be our toughest game of the year (yes I said it UM and tOSU) in 2010 and 2011.

When we get BAMA in 2010

they will be loaded +! Unless something happens like Saban leaving, Bama should be top 5 for the next X number of years. Some ranked them #1 this year in recruits. Even if he left today, the talent that he has recruited over the last three years is outstanding. The new coach will inherit the earth! Granted by 2010, some will have moved on through graduation or early entry into the NFL, but he has a bunch of Thoroughbreds. I agree that they will definitely outrank scUM and be at least equal to OSU. We will definitely need to buckle the chin straps for that game.

Saban leaving?

Surely you jest. The man is a rock. He is a shining bastion of integrity in a world full of charlatans and carpetbaggers only out to make a quick buck.

lol, yup

they still sing praises about how loyal he was here at Michigan State

by The JuggerNitt on Feb 6, 2009 8:44 AM EST up reply actions

You're right, he does have a resume full of diverse job experiences!

Maybe he’s the Larry Brown of football. MSU, LSU, Toledo (how’d they get in there, first head job), Dolphins. He’s been successful everywhere except the Dolphins. Then he screws the people who had confisence in him! Interestingly, he got some of his initial training from Bill “the spy” Belechick! He’s also only 58 so he has 25 more years to coach to catch JoPa. He was an assistent at tOSU so maybe he likes those (name a state) SU schools and when JoPa hangs them up, he’ll come to PSU…good lord I hope not!
