Sunday Bubbly Sunday
Because you keep eating all the thread, here's another for your kvetching and hating. Lunardi still thinks we're the first team out. Jay Bilas is lobbying for Penn State on GameDay. Digger Phelps, former coach at St. Gabriel's H.S. in Hazleton, is just bagging on us.
Storming The Floor and Bracketology 101 have us out, as well. I maintain that in a year of weak mid-major bubble teams, this decision has to come down to quality wins and quality road wins. Penn State has them.
In any event, our fate appears to be in this guy's hands:

You have to love Digger
He wildly argues Arizona’s case for an entire hour, and concludes the program with “I watch teams play, and I like their style of play at the end of the year.”
Arizona’s last six games:
Sun, Feb 22 at (14) Arizona St. L 68-70
Thu, Feb 26 at Washington St. L 53-69
Sat, Feb 28 at (21) Washington L 78-83
Thu, Mar 5 California L 77-83
Sat, Mar 7 Stanford W 101-87
Thu, Mar 12 (23) Arizona St. L 56-68

Digger is a tool
I’m pretty sure Hubert was looking at Rece with a “Is this guy high” look. The committee puts a lot of stock into how you finish and Arizona simply didn’t
Kath?
Digger has no appreciation for defense
He doesn’t seem to be even the least bit aware that you’re allowed to try to stop teams from scoring 100 points, and that it doesn’t matter if you only score 55 if you can hold your opponent to 54. Is it the most aesthetically pleasing basketball? Maybe not (though I find it far more enjoyable than watching the layup lines that NBA games inevitably turn into). But it sure as hell works.
We knew that they weren't nearly as tough as us

RUTS, I don’t see anywhere on the B101 site where they say that PSU is out.

I still don't see why
the “experts” have MD as a lock. Compare them to us : 7-9 in the ACC (with 3 of those wins against Va and Ga Tech) vs 10-8 in the Big 10. Their big non conf win was against Mich St, a team we beat at their place. They also lost to Morgan St and to Duke by 41. Just because they won 1 extra conf tourney game against Wake Forest shouldn’t take away what happened all season.
If RPI is so important...
well the Big 10 is the #2 rated RPI league in the country, ahead of the overrated Big Least. So I think they are a little better than some may give credit.

This is great
CBS will be in the PSU player lounge during the selection show to broadcast the humiliation across the country.

CBS will be cutting into live shots of the Penn State men’s basketball team during today’s (March 15) tournament selection show from 6-7 p.m. The team will be watching the show together in their locker room area of the Bryce Jordan Center. The Nittany Lions will learn during the show whether or not they will be selected to participate in this year’s 65-team NCAA Championship.

You have got to be kidding me
Tennessee shouldn’t even be a lock for the tournament. This game is fuckin terrible

I, on the other hand, got an awesome York Mitsubishi commercial that had a kickass guitar solo.

And such an unbelievably awful team to watch. They would drive me insane if I was a Vol fan.

Tennessee is fucking garbage
Anyone who says any player on Tennessee has a high basketball IQ I am going to slap in the face. Bruce Pearl clearly doesn’t do anything but stuff donuts in his face during practice. Screw them.
Kath?
Hit a 3 to win, please.

Wow
One ref signaling foul, one signaling travel. They called the foul first.
Think he was trying to start the dribble when he got hammered, which is why the foul got called.

should tear his clothes off and streak the court naked if they win
You have to be shitting me, Tennessee.

So, it’s a five team race for the last spot? PSU, St. Mary’s, Creighton, Arizona, and Auburn?

My God
I have never seen both teams try so desperately hard to lose a game. And that includes the 38-33 game.
I dunno
My lingering impressions of that one were more “three parts good defense, one part Yakety Sax offense”. This was the reverse.
Although the 3-2 Auburn-Miss St football game this year might be close.
We will be sharing signatures

Life would be so much easier
If we would’ve just won one of our close losses @ Iowa, @ Wisconsin, vs Rhode Island or vs Temple, we’d be pretty much a lock. So yes, while I think it’s unfortunate that PSU will now likely be left out of the tournament after how the Pac-10, SEC and A-10 tournaments went, the blame for missing the NCAA tournament (if indeed we miss it) lies nowhere but at the feet of PSU. I’ve never had sympathy for mediocre big-conference teams that miss out on the NCAA, because they all had the opportunity either to schedule better non-conference games or not lose one or two more games. We choked some very winnable games away, and we scheduled a non-conference schedule to qualify for the NIT. Both of those factors are coming back to bite us now. It’s still really disappointing that such a promising such a promising season will now probably end in the NIT. On the plus side, we should be a #1 seed in the NIT… :-\
Let's Go State!
Non blaming of Iowa should be punishable by the ban hammer
