Football player cited for disorderly conduct
A Penn State football defensive tackle has been cited for disorderly conduct after allegedly throwing a punch during a shoving match Feb. 28 with passers-by on the 100 block of South Atherton Street, police said.
State College police cited 21-year-old Jared T. Odrick after they say the alleged victims looked up Odrick’s photo on the Penn State football team Web site and then called police to report the incident.
Odrick was the only one of the five people involved who was cited after the 1:40 a.m. incident. The citation was filed Friday at District Judge Jonathan Grine’s office.
The argument allegedly started as a verbal altercation near the entrance to the Graduate apartment building at 138 S. Atherton St., police said. It then turned into a pushing match and Odrick threw one closed-fist punch, police said.
Odrick left the scene, police said, and police were later contacted after several people found Odrick’s photo online. Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor.

Should've listened to CCU coach David Bennett.

This is bullshit
Who goes online to burn someone for ONE PUNCH? Maderia is feeling the pressure of an upcoming election. I hope that idiot gets 0 votes and God does not have mercy on his soul.

No superfly body slam, come on that's not even a tussle.
This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope.

And I suspect the punch didn't even connect
Otherwise, he’d be charged with battery or some other low-level middemeanor, not a summary disorderly conduct charge.
Ridiculous. And I remain committed to raising money for whomever opposes Madiera in the election.

Can we have an election day open thread for that? I think that’s as relevant to PSU football as anything else.

Anyone know when the election is? I’m hoping it’s during this semester, but I haven’t heard.

Primary in the spring (63 days from now), general election in the fall.
Madiera will likely be the Republican nominee. The two Dem candidates are Tony DeBoef and Stacy Parks Miller.
Miller has the advantage of being smart and pretty. DeBoef is smart and has a bitchin’ flat-top haircut. Either would be a welcome change.

Thanks for looking that up for me RUTS
Unfortunately the semester ends at the beginning of May, so the students will miss the primary, but luckily we’ll all be here for the general election to finally vote that asshole out of office.

Wasn’t there a local GOP guy who nearly beat Madiera in the primary? It’s a shame he didn’t win, since that probably would have kept Madiera out of the election period.

There was a local GOP woman...
…who is now apparently running as a Dem:
http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2009/03/15/arnold_again_eyes_district_att.aspx
J. Karen Arnold, a former Centre County assistant district attorney, took steps earlier this week to place her name on the May 19 primary ballot as a Democrat running for district attorney.
Arnold ran against current Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira four years ago for the same position but lost.

Here's what we need
So many people registered to vote for Obama in the November election… many of them signed up on campus.
What we need is someone to lead a campaign for the GOP primary and stand outside the HUB with a REALLY BIG sign for the other dude. That’s how everyone gets elected in State College. Whoever has the biggest sign at the HUB.
And spread the word that Madiera is against PSU football. That would get people excited.
Then, whoever wins in November, it’s not Madiera and we need not worry about this summer.

Wow
Some guy gets in a shoving match.
“Wow, that dude was huge.”
“Yeah, he must be a football player. Let’s look up online and see if we can figure out who it was.”
“Hmmm…That kinda looks like him. He’s either Jared Odrick or Abe Koroma. Let’s call the police.”
If this stands up in court I’ll be shocked.

Contrived Lineup
Have we learned nothing from Duke. Prosecutors showed the alleged victim the lacrosse team photo as a “lineup” for identification.
Apparently, State College PD figured a similar “lineup” by these “victims” was nevertheless appropriate.
And since these “victims” were do-it-yourselfers, a huuuge timesaver.

Mike's exactly correct...
Although, I’d add a bit more…
“Wow, that [black!] dude was huge.”
If it was someone the size and color of a Kevin Kelly, this would have been a non-issue.
Yeah, this will be dropped… I hope

well to be fair
if someone had the size of a Kevin Kelly, not too many people would have been intimidated by the punch

Little evidence
Unless someone, or Odrick comes out and confesses I seriously don’t think they have enough evidence to convict. I don’t think you can take the word of a guy who ID’s a guy (most likely from a night of drinking heavily himself) weeks afterward. Who knows, but as previously noted, it really is a minor offense, despite how it is going to be blown out of proportion. I also no nothing of how the legal system works.

Should be no big deal
The big question is did he connect on the punch? Since he’s only charged with disorderly conduct and not assault, I doubt he even connected. This shouldn’t be more than a couple hundred dollar fine as stated above. I imagine he’ll just pay it and get it over with rather than fight this in court even if he is innocent. Something like this shouldn’t hurt his draft stock considering his past clean record.
