Ugh, another player in a fight
http://www.centredaily.com/116/story/1174865.html
A Penn State football defensive tackle has been cited for disorderly conduct after allegedly throwing a punch during a shoving match Feb. 28 with passers-by on the 100 block of South Atherton Street, police said.
State College police cited 21-year-old Jared T. Odrick after they say the alleged victims looked up Odrick’s photo on the Penn State football team Web site and then called police to report the incident.
Who gets into a fight with a 6'5" 306 pound person, then cries about it afterwards? I don't care if you're drunk.

Defensive Line
Another player on the defensive line who got in trouble with the law? I thought we were finished with this,
This sounds shady to me.
What evidence is there of this besides the guy deciding to pick Odrick’s picture?
I agree
Its a shame that he may have done it, but unless there’s another witness or someone who could place Odrick at the scene, I don’t think looking someone up online will hold up, but then again, I’m not a lawyer.
????
2.5 weeks after the fact, it was dark out, there may have been alcohol involved on both sides…
the timeline seems a little weird-was odrick picked out immediately? why the delay?
what the hell is wrong with these people? someone throws a punch at them and then they call the cops? was someone’s feelings hurt?

Police take a while during their investigation before issuing a citation, then even longer before informing the newspaper.

And also with you.
Initial thought
America has become a police state….it’s only disorderly conduct…….If you make it through your college years these days without something on your record you are an extremly boring person.
Seriously
It’s like a $90 fine.

holy bejeezus, this is magic
I love how they have all the original Cobra-Kai as like “has beens”, the random cameo by Mr. Belding, the “evil” Sensei telling Johnny to sweep the leg, and best of all the random, strangely homo-erotic scene at the end with Daniel-son.

Agreed
This stuff happens at least 50 times a weekend in State College. Yet since it is a Penn State football player it will get way overblown. And what’s with looking him up later then ratting him out? What good does that do other than making you look petty.
didn't you see the ESPN OTL piece?
these guys just want their shot to “reenact” the fight in front of ESPN cameras.

I don’t know how many times I got away with drunken shenanigans, completely unnoticed by police. I would almost go so far as to turn the statement around and say if you DID get caught by police and got charged with anything, you’re an extremely dumb person.

Yeah, but
It’s more negative publicity. Just wait until ESPN gets a hold of this…it’s bound to be a story on the College Football section of espn.com
I can see it now...
As news that Bobby Bowden’s wins are taken away scrolls across the bottom, followed by positive comments by Lee Corso,
Bob Levy ponders whether, again, Joe Paterno’s players “outside the lines” mean he’s lost it inside the cranium.
ESPN is a joke.
not as bad as it could be
No alcohol related offense, no DUI, no under-age. A shoving match involving 1 player who allegedly threw 1 punch and was cited weeks later (in other words not arrested at the scene, no objective evidence he was even there)… Not even really an issue, I doubt he gets much crap from Joe.

Anyone know if any ND players have been arrested/charged lately?
I just hate having to hear about our “thugs” all the time from ND fans at work. I think I should just switch jobs.
I don't know about the players

Our buddies at PITT just tied PSU, Troy and Okla for 21st place
Pitt wide receiver T.J. Porter has been suspended from the team at
least through spring football as a result of an arrest on Feb. 22 for
driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license. He had
been scheduled for a March 3 preliminary hearing, but that has been
postponed until April 1.
It is the second offense for Porter, who was arrested on May 5, 2008
for DUI, purchasing alcohol as a minor, careless driving and failing to
obey traffic control devices. His license was suspended and he was put
into the court-supervised rehabilitaton program Oct. 24.
Or does that count as two points since it was his second offense?
Nope
The Fulmer Cup is points based. A DUI is worth two points.

well, now we know the price of a disorderly conduct nowadays
$430
by The JuggerNitt on Mar 18, 2009 10:46 AM EDT up reply actions
$430?!?!
That’s pretty much doubled in 3 years. Must be the economy.
Seriously though, what the hell? Summary offenses shouldn’t even count. Someone should add info in the Fulmer Cup for traffic violations. Because that’s that a summary disorderly conduct charge is.
Why did these studnets not call the police that night? My guess is that they were underage and drunk…It was State Patty’s day
Clearly Odrick should get a pass
based on his Irish heritage.

What a bunch of pussies
Ok, so three guys see Odrick walking down the street alone. They’ve got their beer muscles. They’ve got numbers. So they mouth off. Pushing match ensues, but as soon as Odrick throws a punch they realize they are about to all three get their asses kicked in front of their girlfriend so it ends there. So they go home and look up pictures on the internet and call the cops.
Everybody’s bad until the punches start flying. What happened to the days when you didn’t want to show your face in public for a week after losing a fight? Now the loser runs home to call the cops and get his name in the newspaper. What a bunch of toughguys.

I just can't understand
Unless a football player really messed your day up why you would want to draw the ire of a ton of football players and hurt the football team in the process?
Kath?
well a lot of people dislike the football team
and athletes in general. I have a hard time believing those sort of people would have been out late at night drunk on State Patty’s day, though.
by The JuggerNitt on Mar 19, 2009 8:55 AM EDT up reply actions
Clearly Ridiculous
So, let me get this straight. Odrick is walking by himself when he sees this group of people. He decides to walk over and punch one of them in the head. Everyone goes their own way.
Then, several weeks later, the alleged victim surfs the web and looks at a PSU team photo, then picks out a football player, presumably because the guy who punched him was big.
Logical conclusion is thus . . . .
Odrick guilty!
at least that we know of
perhaps these guys got in the fight, went to the police, and the DA did a similar photo-array.

Anybody want to bet me?
The one guy who was not the student probably drew the punch. And I bet he was from Pitt.

students these days
are acting like a bunch of p&ssies
If I got knocked out by a football player, I’d be proud of it, and I sure as hell wouldn’t go crying to the cops about it.
PSU students should be looking out for our boys. They work their asses off all year round to bring glory to Old State. If they want to go on drunken rampages every now and then, so be it. I was honored to go out drinking with some of the players (not starters) once in my college career and I’ll never forget it. Personal 30 packs for everyone at the Asshole table, crazy ass lineman running around in shorts in 20 degree weather, taking over kegs at random parties. No ESPN story after wards. Good times.
