You've got to feel bad for Far Left.
She’s by no means not attractive. I see it that she’s like the Northwestern to the rest of the Big Ten. Let’s get her a few votes for good measure. It’d make her day to not have zero votes I’m sure.
by shadowfax on Mar 26, 2009 11:31 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Excellent point
We should all point out that each one of the ladies is extremely attractive. The girl on the far left is at a disadvantage because you can’t get a good look at her due to the girl in the center-left partially blocking her. And I think the smug look she’s giving may be a put off for some guys. Exchange her in position with the girl on the far right and she would undoubtedly draw more attention.

It’s a psychological thing, with positioning. Since probably 99% of us here (because I’m willing to bet that 1% of this site’s traffic is illiterate) read from left to right, we saw her first. Generally, when judging, the first person reviewed is at a statistical disadvantage. This is the case in many sports such as gymnastics and figure skating, where a competitor never wants to go first. She really just drew the short straw on this one.

the worst part about questions like these
especially some of them I had where you KNEW B&C were right, also thought that D & E were correct, but were pretty sure that A was incorrect, but the combinations would all be like
B&C
A&B&C
A&B&C&D&E
C&D&e
A&C&E
A&B&C&D
A&B&C&E
or whatever, so there were no combination of answers that you thought would be right, and so even though you know like 90% of the answer, you got 0% of the credit.
I used to prefer multiple choice tests until I had those. Now I like short answer/essay ;-)

the “which of these answers is MOST correct” where every single one is right, but one of them is somehow more right than the others. GRRRRRRR

by The JuggerNitt on Mar 26, 2009 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
as bad
The worst was a take-home scantron test by an architecture professor. One answer was correct, but the others would be partially correct relative to the total number of people who guessed the wrong answer. Theoretically, if everyone in the class selected “C” on every answer we would all get near perfect grades. About 30 of us would come together and collectively select answers. Somehow everyone else in my group would get a B+ while I would get a D. I never understood that. His tests were the most convoluted mess of Architecture-Speak I’ve ever seen.
Dumbest question was on an Art History exam asking about the approximate age of Stonehenge:
A. 2800 BC
B. 2800 AD
C. None of the Above
D. All of the Above
I think my head exploded.

how is it even possible to get a different grade if you selected the same answers as other people?
as for the art history question: I don’t know if that is the right year, but if so, then perhaps it wasn’t the dumbest question ever, seeing as you still remember it to this day.

because I thought I was smarter than them
That was my first mistake.
The second one: scratch off “B” since it wasn’t built 800 years in the future. Scratch off “D” since it can’t be built at two points in time AND neither point in time. That leaves A & C. Either 2800 BC is the approximate age or not. Well then, how “approximate” is approximate? That’s when my brain started to melt.
by Cairo on Mar 27, 2009 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yes, but is 2800 BC the actual "approximate" answer, or not?
that was what I was wondering. Because if so, then the teacher was pretty effective in getting you to remember that piece of information (and perhaps it was even intentional, though that’s probably giving too much credit to the teacher)

….the AGE of Stonehenge be a number not a date? like 3000 years old?
how about that for a mind blower?

I just had a flashback to my second semester Physics exam.

hey liked those!
that was the way they give you partial credit on multiple choice exams, which I always thought was sweet.
So if the answer is I, but you chose G you’d get like 3/5 points credit. This a opposed to getting no credit at all, wasn’t bad. I lived and died in EE by partial credit on exam answers.

I had some of those that gave partial credit
but if I recall correctly, most (for me) didn’t

Let's slow down now, guys!
This was not to rehash old nightmares of scantron exams from hell. I merely made the point to show that voting for one was hard. (And voting wasn’t the only hard thing around here….)
Line? What line?

I don't know how old some you guys are
but I’ve babysat kids when I was in high school who are now far older than these girls are now. I may be way too elderly for these lasses, I don’t know.
Having said that, the one on the far right.

Three on the left are doable, two on the right are hot.
On a 0-5 range:
5 Unspeakably hot
4 Hot
3 Doable
2 Shandygaff hot
1 Maybe she’s has a hot friend
0 She could be a dude

I wouldn’t touch a single one of those girls with a 10-foot pole.

Comment A
I’d drop the pole and touch them without the pole

Comment B
as much as I like to brag, I cannot come close to claiming I have a 10 foot pole. But the pole I do have, I’d touch them with…repeatedly

Have you seen this dude’s sketches on Comedy Central? He had a bit the other day (not ‘the whole bit’ mind you) on this phrase. It was pretty funny to hear him describe that not touching something with a tenfoot pole was really quite similar to actually touching it with a tenfoot pole.

Didn't see that one
but that dude’s funny…didn’t Leno or maybe Jon Stewart or somebody pick him up for their show?

That's why she got my vote, as well.
I showed the pictures to my lovely ladyfriend, and after asking “what the fuck is wrong with you?”, voted for far-right.
