Pitt Fans
Funny story I thought I would share with everyone here about Pitt fans.
Normally I am completely indifferent to Pitt fans because we never really play them and most of what they say is just drivel fueled by their own ignorance. However, last night the Penn State Icers faced off against Pitt, and a few of my friends and I went to watch the game. Why miss a chance to root on my school, watch some good hockey, and brush up on all of my Pitt jokes?
So naturally we get into some good natured back and forth with the Pitt fans there (What little there were. Apparently their lack of attendance isn't limited to football.) and after a couple of jabs about how poorly Pitt's powerplay was and how much Oakland sucks, those fountains of wit were left close to speechless. Now in a war of words, I'm not going to expect much from a Pitt fan, but what I heard next was just pathetic.
With nothing left to say, most of the Pitt fans just sat there, but one brave Pitter managed to build up the courage to come up with the emphatic retort "Oh yeah, scoreboard!"
At that point in the game, Penn State was winning 3-2.

I would guess that he was trying, like a good Pitt fan, to say “12-0!” but couldn’t remember the score of that game.
I never got their love for that game
It was one game. One. We have beat YOU more than you have beat US. Period. That is not debatable.
That
And the fact that that team was maybe the worst team Paterno ever coached.

People bring up...
infinite reasons why we should never play them again. But they forget one that I think is valid: they won the last game. That leads them to believe they are somehow up on us, despite history. I am all for playing them at least one more time so we can have the last say.
I was out in the trenches, which enables me to paint such a powerful picture, like Apocalypse Now.-Cormega
The fact that
posts about Pitt keep coming up on this message board despite the alleged indifference speaks volumes.
It is completely absurd that we don’t play Pitt in football and basketball. That needs to change.
You're right
We do need to play them in both F-Ball and B-Ball.
The funny thing about the scheduling is that over the 100 games we played PITT only abour 1/3 were at Penn State. Back in the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and even 60’s almost all games were played in Pittsburgh. They were generally Thanksgiving day or weekend and because Penn State was closed for the holiday, the games were played in the Burgh.
Changing Times
Pitt doesn’t want to touch us in hoops because our RPI number is normally so bad that we pull their strength of schedule down and it winds up costing them seeding.
We don’t play them in football because we can make more money playing everyone else. If Pitt would agree to play every year at Beaver Stadium through about 2025 it might make sense for the athletic budget.
I don’t worry about either. We’re in a good basketball conference and the football program is more than fine. I tell Pitt fans they used to play Carnegie Tech all of the time and we played Penn, Bucknell and Lehigh. Times change.
Arguing with Pitt fans is like wrestling with a pig
You’ll get covered in sh*t and the pig will enjoy it.

Surronded By Dumb
Was at the same game and had the same thoughts. Was like going to the Capital Centre in the early 90s, 75% Pens fans and 25% people pretending to be Caps fans but without a clue about the game.
Had two Pitt parents behind us who were in despirate need of Zoloft. One claimed to be the goaltenders mother who was the poster child for bad Little League parents and another who just seemed to be annoyed by everything-us, the refs, the game, life itself.
I suppose we could have been jerks and returned fire but whats the point in arguing with crazy people.
Its sad really. I love that schools give these kids a chance to play for the love of the game but the Pitt kids seem to be at an insane disadvantage with a fan base like that.
