Confirmed: Paulus Offered Scholarship to scUM

Can someone tell me why this is a smart move? I'm confused here. Does DickRod have any idea what he's doing anymore? Is QB the only position they recruit?

I'm no expert, but to give a guy, who hasn't played football since high school, a full-ride to a D1-A program like Michigan is pretty crazy. Is he athletic enough? Sure. But he's not in football shape. He's been living and breathing basketball the past four years. Not only that, he's 6'1" and 180lbs and has less than five months to get ready for the season.

I just don't see how it makes sense to use up a scholarship for this guy. Not too mention this is going to send a message to the other QBs that are at scUM competing for the job.

not crazy at all

Kids get full rides after playing minor league baseball (see: House, NJ, Weineke, Christopher) all the time. Now granted they have 4 years remaining and he only has one, that is what makes this situation strange. He needs to add about 20 pounds and learn how to throw again

Their QB stable is

a true freshman who registered early, who looks gaunt
a guy who’s not very good AND currently very injured
a kid still in highschool
an ATH who maybe played QB in HS
~~a ham sandwich~~ a point guard from Duke

It make sense to bring him in for depth but

If DickRod seriously wants him to come in and be the starter, scUM may be in way more trouble this season than many of us thought.

you can’t tell me this RR’s best option. a 6’1" 180lb 22 year old who hasn’t played football in 4+ years…..there HAS to be someone else out there that is more attractive than Greg Paulus.

to me, this is way worse than an NFL team having Vick compete with three other QBs for a job. This is just stupid and desperate .

Duke also invited Paulus out for football...

but they felt their QB situation was sold and wanted him as a “slot” receiver or something similar. However, Paulus declined and said it would be QB or nothing!

being a faithful hater of duke and most of all UM, if one my most hated point guards ever goes and gets to start at michigan as QB1… that will bring my hatred for michigan into whole new realms.
