PSU v. Texas - Fiesta Bowl 2010
So my WVU buddy sent me this article because it mentioned PSU and also a possible WVU/VaTech matchup. But as I read the writer's reasons for picking PSU in the Fiesta Bowl I notice all he does is rip on Dear ol' State.
Meanwhile, Penn State has a joke of a schedule, but has just enough problems and concerns to potentially lose at Illinois and Michigan State and blow the Big Ten title shot. The Ohio State game might be in Happy Valley, but with a rebuilding receiving corps, big replacements needed on both lines, and some key defensive backs gone, there might be a home loss to Iowa early on and a trip to Northwestern could be tough.
So, according to Pete Fiutak, we could possibly lose at Illinois, at Michigan State, Ohio State, Iowa and at Northwestern. Hmmm, so why is picking us to go to a BCS bowl game?
Yes, I know, don't pay attention to these clowns, but when will this disrespect stop?
Someone please email this clown and rip him a new one.

phase 2?
phase 1: relentlessly under-represent the talent and potential a team has, look the other way when they do something well and pick their flaws out readily. Repeatedly bring up the age of their coach, did you know he’s like, crazy old?
phase 2: continue bashing a team, but relectantly and backhandedly admit they could be good and may even win their conference, even if they still are a bad team with an old coach. a really old coach.
phase 3: limit bashing to realistic concerns, admit they’re good enough to win it all even though they probably won’t. Oh and their coach is still old, and their uniforms are still boring.
We’ll see how long it takes the media to come around

I mean this makes sense
we’re a full week into spring camp, so these assessments have to be pretty accurate at this point. Look for PSU to go 7-5 this year and play in the Fiesta Bowl.
At This Point........
the rap on PSU is always going to be the same old stuff. Slow, Predictable, Old Coach, Big 10 blows…….etc etc. Too many items to address individually.
So just do what I do. Anytime you hear somebody knock PSU, ask them to start naming teams they think are stronger programs over the last 4 years. When they get to 7 or 8 even 10 teams and can’t come up with anymore, just point out that fact and let them chew on it for a while. Then say…….so you mean to tell me you can’t name more than 10 teams out of 120 that are playing big boy football who are better than PSU right now ? Then just rest your case.

It's just a fad, it'll pass
Coming from Philly, I remember our football division being called the “NFC Least”. Flash forward a couple years, and the same commentators are talking about how tough it is to play in the – you guessed it – NFC East. College Football needs narratives like “Big 10(+1) is teh sukz0rs” or “OMG ESSSS EEEEE SEEEE SPEED” – otherwise the sportswriters wouldn’t have much to justify their poll selections
