What's Your Story

I've been a daily reader and sometime poster of this blog for about 6 months now and really enjoy all the stuff I've come across. I've also noticed that certain people write more and are generally more knowledgeable than others. I was wondering what everyone's story is (e.g., when did you graduate, where do you live, etc.). I don't want to step into people's private lives, but I was just curious as to where people are from and such. This might also help for people living in similar cities looking for friendly faces come October and November Saturdays.

I graduated in 05 and am about to graduate from Pitt Law, probably staying in the Pittsburgh area. I don't profess to know a ton about Penn State football, but I think I could hold my own in an educated conversation (which is tough to find when you go to school at Pitt).

How swiftly Zug had surmounted the icy Alleghenys and in his mind conceived immense upheavals, coming war. When he reached the water of the little Juniata, clearly to the leader through the murky night appeared a mighty image of his college in distress, grief in her face, her white hair streaming from her tower-crowned head, with tresses torn and shoulders bare she stood before him, and sighing said:

"Where further do you march? Where do you take my standards, warriors? If lawfully you come, if as citizens, this far only is allowed."

Then trembling struck the leader’s limbs; his hair grew stiff and weakness checked his progress, holding his feet at the river’s edge. At last he speaks:

"O Engle, surveying great State’s walls from the Nittany Mountain -
O Pennsylvanian house gods of Lasch, clan and mysteries of Bezdek who was carried off to heaven -
O Cappelletti of Upper Darby, seated in lofty Laguna Niguel and hearths of Vesta -
O Penn State, equal to the highest deity, favor my plans.

Not with impious weapons do I pursue you. Here am I, Zug, conqueror of Columbus and East Lansing, your own soldier, everywhere, now, too, if I am permitted. The man who makes me your enemy — it is he who be the guilty one."

Then he broke the barriers of war and through the swollen river swiftly took his standards. And Zug crossed the flood and reached the opposite bank. From Happy Valley’s forbidden fields he took his stand and said: "Here I abandon peace and desecrated law. Fortune, it is you I follow. Farewell to treaties. From now on war is our judge."

"Hail, Zug: We who are about to die salute you!"

no one answered your question.

I’m currently at Penn State studying English and Communications Education (High School English teacher essentially). I grew up in Parsippany, NJ, moved to West Chester, PA and eventually want to be a preacher (I’m getting ordained in December in Bellefonte.

I’m also a writing tutor and member of the basketball and volleyball pep bands. I’m also interning for Christian Student Fellowship on campus.

I started my love affair with Penn State when I turned 9 and Penn State lost to Iowa but I still got hooked. My dad went to Penn State so I had a head start.

Yeah so that’s about it… yay

Well, on a similar note

pretty much all money we’ve ever handled has some trace of cocaine on it (though some of it is through indirect exposure by touching other contaminated bills)

This same phenomenon could possibly work on stripper butt crack essense, though ;-)

I graduated from PSU in 2004.

I never really wanted to go to school there. I wanted to go to Pitt actually, but PSU was the only in state school with a BS in Meteorology. While attending school, I acutally hated it (to be honest, I was more of a NFL than college football fan). I thought most of the students were stuck up snobs that thought less of me b/c I started out at a branch campus (GO BEHREND!!!). Though, I have to admit, being in the Blue Band the night we played Nebraska was pretty darn awesome!

But my hatred slowly turned into dislike by my senior year.

Then came my first Blue White Weekend and my first tailgate. It was 2005 and I met the greatest PSU tailgaters. That weekend seriously changed my life!!! I’ve been hooked on PSU (disavowing my like of Pitt almost immeditately) ever since. What really nailed the coffin was moving to Columbus, OH. Seriously. From the first moment I stepped foot in Ohio, I became a diehard Nittany Lion. It’s taken 3 long years but I am finally moving back to PA. My going away parties are entitled…OH-FU!! I really hate the buckeyes!!!

I'm second of a three generation PSU extended family

Dad (‘50), me (’78), daughter (‘08), and nephews (’06 and ’09).

Lifelong fan, as Dad brought me up for the occassional game throughout my otherwise misspent youth. Remember being pissed off in ‘68 and ’69 that ’eastern football’ was considered lame, and 2 undefeated seasons dissed. The ‘69 Orange Bowl (’68 season) had such a great finish:

http://www.mmbolding.com/bowls/Orange_1969.htm

Still hit every home game with Dad, Sis and Bro-in-Law. Yes, we puke up roughly $30 Brazilian for 2 rooms each weekend at the swinging Motel 6, but it allows us to also catch the Womens V-Ball games, avoid game day travel, and casually enjoy the entire football weekend atmosphere.

Dad and I hit the links on pre-game Fridays, so if there are any playas out there that would like to play along, let me know. The usual haunts are the PSU courses, ELKS CC, and the new Freestone course about 4 miles north of campus. Amazingly, we’re still welcome everywhere – my divots are of the legendary beaver-pelt variety.

So – that’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it.

My PSU journey began with

being born in Pennsylvania. I remember early on in elementary school writing that I wanted to go to PSU to be a veterinarian or one of those giant crane operators. Alas, the crane and Vet dreams didn’t fly but I did follow my brother (10+ yrs my senior) to PSU just in time to witness 1988, PSU’s 1st losing football season in 50 years.

One thing a massive state school like PSU offers is a bajillion majors. I had no clue. I did love building with legos as a kid, so I aimed high and went with Aerospace Engineering. I soon figured out that lego rocketships had little to do with higher level math and physics and after a dabble in polymer science I earned my degree in Industrial Engineering. Not bad except for all the machine operators and union folk that hate Industrial Engineers. Thank god for minors – in this case Finance. Thank God I have a window.
