Kids
You know, I was just thinking, it must be the greatest experience of a PSU football player’s life when he graduates from being “one of the other kids” to earning the respect (or the ire) of Joe Paterno enough for him to call you by name. If that were me, you’d never be able to get the smile off my face for the rest of my life.

I liked the quote about Lee's versatility
something like “He can play inside and outside where ever we need him…he’s athletic enough to play strong safety”…
my question is what does that say about our secondary????

Seriously
This is not a new problem. Does anyone at PSU do a sound check before a presser?
by JIMPSU on Apr 23, 2009 5:37 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
If you ever watch a presser
of the BTN the audio is fine because they use the mic that is actually in front of him. All the other places use their hand held tape records that they place on the desk of the mic on the video camera like Pennlive does

PSU Linebackers
had a story in the Collegian:
http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2009/04/23/lions_boast_deep_linebacking_c.aspx
Weirdest part? Josh Hull’s quote.
To wit: “Absolutely, no doubt in my mind that I’m not one of the three best linebackers on the team,” the former walk-on said. “I’d be extremely disappointed if I don’t have a starting job in the fall.”
Uh-oh. As the Dread Pirate Roberts said, “Get used to disappointment”.
He’s obviously behind Lee in the middle, and I can’t see him being effective on the outside. There’s too much talent around, IMO, for Hull to see significant PT unless injuries become a factor.
Looks to me like Trouble in Paradise looming for the Joshster. Your mileage, of course, may vary.

To be fair
he seemed okay in open space. I think his biggest weakness was getting through traffic, which made him so ineffective in the middle last year. He would just get lost in there. I’d like to see him get a fair shot on the outside.

Our judgement on Hull is based on last year
He may have improved. Who knows?

I agree
I hate bashing a kid like that, his determination and heart are what make our program what it is. To walk on at any D-1 university is considerable, to start as a walk-on LB at PSU is unbelievable.
Hull’s obviously challenging himself — and there’s guys like Stupar, Mauti, the whole bunch who are going to force him to get faster, smarter, more consistent; otherwise he’ll be left behind.
I guess what I’m saying, is that somewhere at the opposite end of the spectrum is Quarless. Now which would you rather have on your team?

I agree, Millz
I wasn’t trying to bash him; for a walkon to become a starter is a great story, and an indication of how hard he’s worked. He is a true Penn Stater.
I just see younger guys that are lucky enough to have more natural talent.
If they’ll work as hard as Josh, he may be in trouble. If they don’t – give Hull the best shot.

Hull will make those guys better
last year during the B&W game Steve Jones had a conversation with Joe on the air about walk-ons. Basically the point was that walk-on’s often don’t have the measurables, but they make up for it with heart and hard-work. And that often forces the 4-star kids to work harder then they would naturally b/c they aren’t allowed to get by on their physical talent alone.
Whether Josh Hull starts or is in the rotation, he is making those other LB’s better. By saying “I’m starting” he’s not only challenging himself, he’s challenging the 4-star kids who may be more inclined to believe they’ll get the start simply b/c they’re more talented.

yeah sorry
for jumping all over your comment — not trying to be confrontational or anything
the internet has a way of turning everything into an argument, even when we’re all in agreement.
so now that that’s settled, here’s this:

Also I believe
Hull is an engineering major. Not the easy road to take when you are trying to make a major football program. How many engineers do we find on the team, not too many I bet.
