May want to follow JayPa's twitter today

He’ll be tweeting during the game. You can even give a play call suggestion if you like. Too bad he says he won’t be doing it during the fall.

Jay is the breakout star of the offseason.

And I’m not sure how to react anymore.

This is the most frustrating thing ever.

Does anyone have a link to a web stream of the, either video or even just audio. GoPSUsports is the crappiest laid out website.

Do any of the radio affiliates stream their boardcasts?

i’ve been searching semi-randomly for websites of those radiostation. It looks like WHGL-FM (102.9) Elmira
WVNJ-AM (1160) New York at least stream live, but they have no mention of the Blue White game on the website, so i’ll just have to wait and see.

BSD Mike...

I agree with your statement earlier this week – in that Beachum should have a grand opportunity to showcase his talents today…and i too hope he does.

I have a hunch that he has BOTH “Thunder AND Lightning” abilities under that #25 uniform…i really do.

If this hunch proves true, imagine having him behind Royster (when ‘Rolls is taking a breather) and he gets the ball…OR he’s lining-up…the opposing D’s have no clue to key and him OR Speedy Green…because they are BOTH fresh…
-that’s one ’heck-of-a" head scratcher for defensive coordinators…let alone the defensive players on the field…

i overlooked that issue…
I’m NOT 100% on this (not a Dr, & did NOT "stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night)…but, I have recovered from an ACL/MCL/&meniscus surgery (all in one shot) and now that a knee / ligament type surgery has the propensity to slow your “times” down permanently / not get that original burst back…BUT Green’s ankle surgery “might” only slow him down a touch ( and only for now ). I doubt he will see his ‘new’ full speed until Oct/Nov…IMO…

IMO

He looked awesome today. He can throw beautifully on the run, and scrambled to avoid the sack (from Jack Crawford no less) multiple times. I realize he may have been facing 2nd/3rd string (although like I mentioned, I think they gave him a few series with 1st team, b/c I saw Crawford almost sack him), but he looked great. HIs arm strength, even on the run, is what impressed me the most. He threw a bomb to a reciever (who dropped the pass, which was not Newsomes fault), while on the run, for what seemed like at least 40 yds. With a little polishing, he’s going to be a star (assuming PJ Jones doesn’t beat him out for the spot).

also does this make Newsome #2 on the depthchart cuz he got the start? or McGloin cuz he’s getting reps with the first team?

I think so

Especially for Buffalo, with how desperate they were for pass rushing help. I still think Maybin should’ve stayed at PSU another year to develop, but hey, it’s hard to pass up being projected as a possible top-10 pick.

anyone considering becoming a buffalo fan?

yeah I think I might be swinging that way. they haven’t won anything, so you know you’re not going to be called a bandwagon, and they seem to be a hard-nose football kind of team.

I am no longer an Eagles fan since they cut Hunt, and I’d love to see 2 PSU kids starting on defense. If they pick up Odrick or Lee next year we’d have a good start on this decade’s PSU all star team.

"We hugged as grown men do. It was a great moment. Then, it was business as usual." -- LJ Sr.

by millzners on Apr 25, 2009 11:33 PM EDT up reply actions

AND

the Eagles drafted McCoy (I don’t think I need to mention where he got his pseudo-education). This is why when asked what my favorite pro teams are, I say “I don’t have one, I’m only a PSU fan”. But the bills are moving up there now that they’ve got two of my favorite PSU defensive players on the roster.

And I was as pissed as you were when the Eagles cut Hunt, and despite being from Philly, they lost some major points in my book for that. Speaking of which, has anyone heard any news about him? I would feel extremely sad if he’s not being given the chance to do what he loves. He’s one of those PSU players who gave so much on every down and played with so much heart, that they never disappoint. His post-Outback bowl interview is a perfect example.

by dawsonPSU10 on Apr 25, 2009 11:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I haven’t heard anything, but it’s a real shame…

I know some people may jump all over me for this, but I think Andy Reid is a joke. The way he abandons the run game and makes McNabb drop back 40 times a game is hilarious. It’s like he thinks he’s playing PS3.

I’m sorry Tony got stuck with a coach who doesn’t believe in a run game. Likewise I’m quite pleased McCoy could have his career ruined for the same reason.

Ok Eagles fans, I’m sorry.

by millzners on Apr 25, 2009 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

I feel like Hunt was named their starting fullback and then was cut a week later, it sure seemed that way. He may not have done anything spectacular, but unles he was a big disappointment in practice, I mean he wasn’t given much oppurtunity in game situations. A 3rd round pick is a guy that you hope will be able to contribute, it is just sad.

Hunt Sucked

As a guy who was thrilled when his fav pro team picked a guy from his fav college team, I can safely say the only thing disappointing was that Hunt clearly didn’t have NFL talent. Not quite big enough to be a bruiser and way too slow to be a gamebreaker.

I think the level of interest he’s shown from other NFL teams since he was cut should be enough of an indication of who is to blame.

by jdgordo1 on Apr 26, 2009 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know how you can form that opinion

since Tony was barely used by the Eagles at all. When McNabb isn’t throwing, they’ve got Westbrook and Buckhalter to run, so when really was he going to get any reps? Maybe he didn’t have the size or speed to be replace the 1st or 2nd string guys in the Eagles’ descent running game, but the few times I think they actually put him in I don’t think is a fair judge of what he’s capable of.

And please provide any links where Hunt says he has no interest in playing for another NFL team. I haven’t found one article on what he’s doing currently, and really do want to know what he’s doing now. I think you’re making a HUGE assumption saying that Hunt is to blame for his lack of an NFL career. The heart and determination he showed as a PSU player really does not sound like the person you’re describing as showing a low level of interest in pursuing an NFL career, just because he got cut from a team that barely used him.

by dawsonPSU10 on Apr 26, 2009 10:28 PM EDT up reply actions

you're misunderstanding

jdgordo was saying that Hunt is receiving low interest FROM other teams, not that hunt wasn’t interested. Also it is better not to blame anyone. You can hardly blame the Eagles for not giving their 3rd RB game time reps, if he doesn’t go out in practice and have the talent to take them. And it’s not fair to really blame Tony, that would be like blaming anyone here for not being in the NFL. Hunt didn’t fit with the Eagles, does that mean he wont anywhere else? No, but it doesn’t seem to appear that other GM’s are lining up to get Hunt cuz they think he’ll fit with them either.

by platnumkid on Apr 27, 2009 7:37 AM EDT up reply actions

I was also quite disappointed that the Eagles cut Hunt

since it never seemed like they gave him a chance. To be honest he didn’t really fit into the system, since Andy Reid just likes to pass a million times, and while Hunt is good at catching the ball, maybe he either wasn’t good enough (or maybe they just didn’t give him the opportunity). He seemed big and strong and fast enough to be a good RB on a running team, though (even if he was just a backup). Ah well.

Vikes

I’d LOVE to see the Vikings draft either Derrick Williams or Deon Butler tomorrow. Or heck, even Norwood in the late rounds. We need playmakers on offense in the worst way, to take defensive attention away from Adrian Peterson. If Harvin can stay off the ganja, he could be key, but I’d love to see them get another exciting offensive player like D-Will.

Unfortunately I doubt they draft D-Will who I think is seen in the same type of role as Harvin, Id love Butler or Norwood, I thin we signed Jimmy Kennedy last year, but I dunno if hes still there, but I need more PSU in Minnesota.

Indeed if Harvin can get his shit together i think it could be great, a nice pistol formation with AP and Harvin would be deadly.

A few thoughts, just got back from the game.

Newsome reminds me of robinson more than Clark. He made some good pass rushers miss with ease and heaved a couple of balls way down field. Zug, Moye, and Brackett are going to be a good trio. The height got them a few passes over defenders and stretched the field which was good to see. I think Scerba and Quarless will both be used quite a bit this year, but I thought that after last years BW also.
Beachum is small and was not too impressive to my eyes, but Chaz Powell is bigger and looked good, not Dwill good though because he just didn’t show the burst we got used to seeing with Dwill.
The crowd was a bit apathetic, I think our brains were all just baked. There was not a WE ARE exchange in the first half (I left then because kids were too hot). The place was Packed though, at one point it was basically full except for the upper decks.
I will submit some photos but those are just a few quick impressions.

I thought the same exact thing. Every talking head I heard had him as a first rounder. I believe this is called karma (granted its only the second round and still respectable, but this is payback for every Pile-jump they gave him a solo tackle for.

Even Wells barely made it out of the first round.

Again, keeping the context of what string defense they were playing in mind

But was anyone as impressed with Little Red as I was? He was making some great throws, even on the run. Not to mention, he also was taking it himself successfully.

Even the other two QBs I had never heard of (John Kelly and Shane McGregor) looked really impressive both throwing and on the keepers. I don’t remember which one it was, but when their squad was down at about the two yd line of the south endzone, one of them swept out, and got leveled by three defensemen at the one, then jumped right up.

by dawsonPSU10 on Apr 25, 2009 11:51 PM EDT reply actions

QB's

Maybe it’s just me, but I though McGloin looked sharper than Newsome. Not that Newsome was bad… it just seemed like he needs a bit more work. I’m particularly referring to his “Pryor syndrome,” a horrible disease where you look for your first target and, noticing he’s covered, you bolt toward the sidelines.

To be fair though, all the QB’s were flushed out of the pocket nearly every play. That defensive front looks… just plain scary.

by smashtheguitar on Apr 26, 2009 12:28 AM EDT up reply actions

At times, yeah I'd agree, but again, I'm can't remember which defenses they were playing against

but the fact that we’re having this discussion where two backups are being described as looking sharp and looking fantastic in the spring game is extremely reassuring to me.

by dawsonPSU10 on Apr 26, 2009 1:42 AM EDT up reply actions

Don't get too excited

All QB’s look good in the BW game. The defense is very basic with no blitzing.

by BSD on Apr 26, 2009 8:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah I know

Even w/o the blitzes, he showed he has quite an arm. And like I said in the comment above, I realize he may have been playing against 2nd/3rd string D, although they did switch in a few starters here and there occasionally. But his throws were accurate under pressure, and he wasn’t afraid to take it himself if he had an opening, or afraid to take a hit either.

Either way, my point was I was impressed with his skills for a walk-on QB, not so much that I think he’s going to be a starter or anything.

First, I’m surprised to see him back in State College after everything that happened.

Second, is the fist shown in the picture with him attempting to fist pound him, or punch him in the face for fumbling so many goddamn balls when he and #14 decided to have a contest in 2007 to see who could suck the most? (#14 won by default btw)

Injuries

Because this wasn’t mentioned earlier:

“Brackett, defensive end Pete Massaro and tackle Ako Poti all left the game with injuries, but the extent of each was unknown.”

yeah that was not good

Massaro and Poti both left with leg injuries, Massaro looked like a knee injury maybe. What did Brackett have?

I don’t hate the Lions draft so far. Hopefully D-Will can get some playing time early.

by mgr135 on Apr 26, 2009 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions

Anyone see any strange coincidence in this?

DWill is recruited by a struggling program (granted under different circumstances, and I think our Dark Years teams may have been able to beat the Lions of last year), where he may see some good playing time.

Anyway, I wish him the best, and hope he doesn’t end up a Tony Hunt.

by dawsonPSU10 on Apr 26, 2009 2:50 PM EDT up reply actions

I think that might be a bit extreme

The Lions may still suck next year, but maybe that means he gets some significant playing time

should be put to good use

Detroit can use him at lot right away.

Williams doesn’t have outstanding size but he does possess impressive athleticism. He displays a quick burst off the line of scrimmage and reaches top-end speed in an instant. He also brings strong versatility to contribute on special teams as a return man. espn.com

by platnumkid on Apr 26, 2009 11:59 AM EDT reply actions

Wow

Butler at 91 overall. That’s incredible — who would have thought an under-sized walk-on WR would go that early in the NFL draft. He must have really impressed some people in the combines and his workouts…

I think it goes without saying, Butler was something very special and he was incredible under-rated while playing at PSU. His speed and route-running and leadership will be missed.

I’m not sure that’s fair to King — who got a 4th round pick (I believe) and looked like he may have gotten time on the field this season in some packages until his season-ending injury.

I would be absolutely shocked if Evans was drafted sooner that 6th round — he’s done everything wrong so far. I still wish him the best, but Mo’:

Shipley

We’re in the 7th round, and AQ hasn’t been taken yet. I think somebody is going to get a steal with that kid. I realize he’s supposedly undersized for the NFL, but he manhandled everyone he went against…including several guys who were drafted on the first day.
