Spring Game Wrap-Up Mothership
All the news and notes you can stomach about Saturday's Blue-White game. If you find any articles or videos of interest, please add them to the comments:
Rest assured, Daryll Clark is still very good.
Graham Zug continues his intergalactic award tour, capturing the Red Worrell Award for most-improved player in spring practice.
The Harrisburg Patriot-News' Bob Flounders and the Philly Inquirer's Jeff McLane (who is leaving the PSU beat to be an Eagles writer) yuck it up after the game.
The York Daily Record brags on its two hometown Nittany Lion reps, Knowledge Timmons and Chaz Powell.
FOS has a rather extensive report on the PSU offense.
The Pocono Record examines PSU's backup quarterback situation.
JayPa says that if disaster struck tomorrow, Newsome is your #2 QB, though McGloin is "2A".
Details of Navorro Bowman's incident are filtering out -- seems he flunked a school-administered drug test. Joe Paterno is taking a "wait and see" approach with Bowman, who has had a rather rough year.
The Allentown Morning Call has video/audio of the action, along with a report of a very happy Joe Paterno.
Finally, over ten minutes of tailgating video from some fine, upstanding gentlemen. Deep-frying and drunken nail-hammering is prominently involved:

He finally stopped vaporizing quarterbacks for throwing bad passes.

Does Anybody Else
still find it unsettling to see Zug’s first name in print? I mean, we woudn’t ever really see the following would we?
‘Bob God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change….’ or
‘All praise be to John Allah!’

in case you didn't know
it isn’t “Bob” God, it is Graham God.

So not to get ahead of ourselves,
but is there a chance that Newsome and McGloin enter into a two quarterback system once Clark graduates? Like a Robinson / Mills deal? Any thoughts?
Doubtful.
Newsome would likely have emerged as a clear #1 by then. Plus, there’s the Paul Jones thing.

I doubt it
see: results of 2004 season.
The only reason we had 2 QBs on the field back then was because our best WR (and best athlete on the team) was Robinson, and we wanted him on the field as much as possible.

Also
By then, Mills was the shoulderless wonder.

well, he still technically had his non-throwing shoulder
at least until the Wisky game that year

JayPa's looking better every day
There was a time when I would go on great tirades about Jay’s incompetance and our poor QB play. But Clark looks excellent, and Newsome has made impressive strides in the last 4 months. I think Jay’s found a system and a style that works.

It feels weird
But I actually got my pic taken with him after the game, and complemented him on how well all the QBs looked at the game, and I felt good about that. It’s an odd feeling after so many years of wanting him fired.

It's Curley's fault that you wanted Jay fired

It's the tweet in him
Finally out and expressed, for all to see.

Wow.
Hammers, nails, and alcohol on that video. Seems like a good time was had by all. I had a chance to see the guy doing chainsaw sculpture in the carnival area, that was quite a sight as well. I finished off the day in Pickles Tap Room watching the Pens eliminate the Flyers, that was a blast.
gotta love stump
Glad to see that me and my roommates were not the only ones playing stump on that fine day. Although we were stuck playing with a Pine stump, which was way too soft.
I've seen drinking games of all kinds
And have never seen Stump. But I will play the crap out of it this fall if given the chance.

Only in Centre County
Would hammering nails get mixed with beer to form a drinking game
My god, we really have a freaking drinking problem.

I know the people who run the stump game shown in the video...
and they definitely take care to play the game in a safe manner. The nails are always hammered into the stump before beginning play far enough that they are not loose and do not wiggle at all. If people play inappropriately (side swinging, double hitting, etc.) they are removed from the game.
hmmm...
have you tried the stump game at 2tL/DDT? i bet that could be interesting…vaughn w/ a hammer. scary!!!!

I seriously don't know
any place else in the entire country with a better tailgating scene than that…and for a practice game!!!
Not only is it Practice for the Football team
Blue White weekend is spring practice for Tailgaters! I think it went really well personally.

But he is incredibly awesome
I don’t think there’s a tailgater who wouldn’t want a laptop controlled deep fryer.
Video
Hey, I shot the video that was posted on Saturday with the help of one of my friends. We run a blog called We Want The Lion, we’d appreciate it if you guys would check it out if you liked the vid! We’ll post it over there later on.
And for the record, the turkey fryer was an engineering design project (though not by us). It’s quite a piece of machinery. And we’d never seen the stump game either but we were happy to give it a try!
Hope everyone had a great time Saturday.

You have been cited for insufficient blogwhoring
Proof that I win the internets – I searched for "blue white game 2009" and posted your video before you. Get that link in your YouTube profile. I was looking for one, but was just slightly afraid to search for "WWTLBlog" while at work. (True story, I was recently duped into calling a…okay, adult male phone chat thing from my work phone, so I’m a little more uh…aware now. I’m a perfect, clueless target for shit like that.)
Any turkey fryer = Unholy goodness.

I'm actually a wealthy Nigerian Prince
and I have all this extra cash just lying around, . All I need is your credit card #s, ATM card with pin #, and maybe your SSN and birth certificate so that I know you’re serious about wanting to share my bountiful supply of cash.
I'm assuming you're the one on the right

You caught me
That was right before the surgery, just like the one Michael Jackson had. Through the marvels of modern medical science I was transformed from a black man into a white English/Irish kid who is probably a half of a pigment gene short of being an albino judging by how easily the sun burns my skin.
re:
Yeah, we put the vid up thinking we could chill for the night and put it up today, because we figured no one would find it. Oh well. And if we weren’t so lazy, we’d have that link on our YouTube page! But alas…
