Next National Championship
2009, 2010, 2011 OR later
I am thinking 2010, or 2011. Alabama gives us the strength of schedule to play them, OSU, Mich, and a great team like USC, VA tech, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Miami, etc for the MNC. That means really good competition like in the 80's. Michigan should be good enough by then to count as a quality win.
2011, OSU, Alabama, both Home. And Newsome will be a Junior by then. AND 25 year anniversary of 86 title team!
Even this year we win all of our games this year, we only play OSU, and then one other opponent for the title. Would love to win this year, but think schedule plays nicely next few years. so whatcha think

In 2009, with most of the college football world sick with Mexican swine flu, Penn State easily wins the national title thanks to the little known fact that Joe Paterno’s robots cannot contract Mexican swine flu.
In 2010, after Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier transfered to Delaware the year prior, Pat Devlin transfers to Penn State. Kevin Newsome transfers to Delaware. Tate Forcier transfers to Penn State. Devlin transfers to Michigan. Forcier tears his ACL in the opener. Matt McGloin throws for 500 yards against Alabama in a 76-14 romp, Saban is fired because “The Bahr wud nevah lose to a damned Yankee scoo’.”, and Penn State is ranked number 1 the rest of the season.
In 2011, Penn State easily wins another national championship with McGloin. Paterno flies to Columbus, literally bitch slaps Tressel and Pryor, then announces his retirement. Jay is elevated to offensive coordinator, Bradley goes to Michigan after RichRod is fired, Al Golden becomes DC, and LJ Sr stays on board as d-line coach and “owner of the whole freakin’ state of Maryland”. Joe Paterno’s clone (now somewhere above 40 years old and in his prime) becomes head coach. Nothing really changes.
The Future: Daryll Clark is elected President in 2012 as an independent candidate with Graham Zug as a running mate. Sadly, Zug destroys all of college football with nuclear weapons, including Penn State. All that is left is Zug, Clark, Clark’s fist pump, and some loser from PA who writes stupid fake bullshit about Zug on an internet weblog.

A gross oversight on my part.

That whole scenario is totally ridiculous
Clark can’t be president in 2012, he won’t be old enough. :)

I'm putting it at around the next 7 years...
I just have a feeling that that number of years will allow other programs to either fall back from their god like status (Florida, USC) or allow us to catch up and other conferences like the Pac 10 to even out.
Lets just hope there are no growing pains with a new coach. I want us ready to contend as soon as possible
Now, I’m thinking that we up our actual runs from every 3 years to every 2 years, in which case a championship could come sooner. I’m really liking Newsome and I hope he can get it done. This year is definitely a long shot. Hopefully 2010 gets us in the MNC talk. We’ve had tons of luck with Clark stepping in and being awesome off the bat, lets hope Newsome can do the same. Beating Bama would silence everyone and put us in place to do big things.

I wish beating Bama would have that effect...
unfortunately, you can ask Utah how that worked out for them. It’s like the game never happened

Haven't you listened to anything the MSM said?
The ONLY reason Alabama lost that game was because Andre Smith didn’t play!

I’ve never predicted one of our teams to win a title before the season and I never will.

Wrong Perspective
When will we next go Undefeated is the question. MNCs are all up in the air and unless that changes, all I aim for is an undefeated season, if a MNC follows, I’ll take it but if not Ill be just as proud.
Take this with a dash of homerism, but we could go undefeated this year. Cake walk OOC and we have tOSU at home. Obviously there will be Iowas and the like, but there is not a team on our schedule we can’t beat and we will probably be favored in every game except tOSU. I certainly DO NOT expect this to happen, but I would not be surprised one bit, especially because I think Clark could be the best QB we’ve seen here since Collins. Just something about him makes me believe he can do great things, the charisma of MRob, but with probably more QB talent.
That brings me back to the original question, MNC? maybe years, but it is not inconcievable for us to go 12-0 this year and be locked out in the cold like oh so many times in the past, do not expect a JoePa sympathy vote, the media aren’t big fans.
Just my outlook, and as for the future? I think we will continue having enough talent to win for awhile, so long as the QB/WR play doesn’t drop off. We will always have a good RB and great Defense, we always have. Think about it, even in the dark years we had decent backs and a great D, but no solid QB play. I think it mostly depends on Newsome, Jones and whoever else is lined up wide to keep it up.

Undefeated in 2009, but snubbed from the MNC game
that will keep JoePa’s streak of decades with undefeated teams going.
Then in 2010 we lose at least @ Alabama, and maybe @tOSU. No MNC that year.
2011 JoePa rallies the troops for one last surge, as we go undefeated again, and this time make it to the MNC game, where we win a decided victory over #1 ranked [insert SEC champion here], and the BCS championship title. The AP has different plans, and numerous voters place also undefeated USC in their #1 slot, after beating 1 loss, #4 Ohio State yet again, this time in the Rose Bowl.
JoePa, not willing to share this championship issues a challenge to USC to play for the undisputed title in either Miami or New Orleans. Pete Carroll, who is willing to play anyone, anywhere, accepts the challenge, and 2 weeks later the TRUE National Championship game is played.
Penn State goes on to win 67-3. Despite numerous media members, who didn’t watch the game, and upon reading the score and thinking it was a typo, still voted USC #1, there were enough credible voters that Penn State was able to lay claim to both the BCS and AP titles.
Years later ESPN publishes a story “The Night College Football Went To Hell…Again” about this game, and how it ushered in a College Football Playoff system.

Overlord Zug knows theres going to be no MNC in 2010
and redshirts to play in 2011. Then catches 4 TD’s and nearly 3 STD’s (1) from the song girls from impregnating all of them while celebrating said TD’s.
1. Nearly catches them because Zug is immune to all disease and it was just a way to call the song girls dirty.
