Adam reported QB14 indeed re-signed with the Cardinals. I know I've seen some people wondering about that. Honestly I wish him the best, and despite all the vitriol we've aimed his way I hope he makes the team.

So I propose we have a *positive* QB14 thread. Let's sing his praises for once, I'll start things off:

He never lost a bowl game as a starting QB, and helped us defeat ZOMG SEC!!!!!!!! Tennessee.

He did have a hell of an arm

And the Outback Bowl was my first bowl game, and it was a damn good one. I think I’m out of positives.

Alamo Bowl was fun too

just rewatched the 3rd quarter of the alamo bowl

I remember now why I was so excited about the 2008 season: clark and royster looked great during that game, they were the difference…

I remember that too

I also remember being scared shitless that we were down 14-0 early on.

by dawsonPSU10 on Apr 29, 2009 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would have been scared shitless except I ended up being the guy who had to talk everyone else down from the cliff, so to speak. I ended up looking like the guy who had faith all along but that perception was totally circumstantial.

My approach

When A&M went up 14-0, I decided I didn’t really care and if we lost, we lost. The season was already over.

Worked like a charm!

We were one possession away

from leaving to go to the strip club. On the fourth down play we actually had our coats in our hands.

I have a few games downloaded whenever I need to feel good about PSU, I watch a few ‘highlights’ by skipping to the good plays.

Not the Alamo Bowl

But I have a bunch of games from his past season downloaded, some in HD. I watch Ohio State sometimes.

by PizzaDelivery on May 1, 2009 12:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have Ohio State from this year, its HD, audio breaks up a little but I can live with it. I found 2005 too but it won’t download. No seeds, or peers or other torrent speak I do not understand. If anyone has any suggestions….

but I got 2005 from there, so maybe I can help?

Another positive!

I had completely forgot. QB14 being put in as a WR during the Alamo bowl. That was awesome! Those plays were also our intro to DC17.

by dawsonPSU10 on Apr 29, 2009 6:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Those plays cracked me up

It was like they were afraid Morelli would go crazy if they didn’t have him in.

Credit wher credit is due

I’ll say it ANTHONY MORELLI had a few hellish blocks out there. Some nice cuts. I mean his head was 89.6% meat so he didn’t sacrifice much, but I remember watching and appreciating his blocks.

How great would it be if he made the team and ended up getting the job over Leinart? Definitly NOT gonna happen, but a boy can dream cant he?

QB 14

I always tried to get #14 when I played organized sports. Based on that I’ll cut him some slack. It’s a shame really, that kid had all the tools to be a great pro QB. I hope he does make the NFL, play a few years, make a few bucks and have a nice life.

Wish him the best.

He played pretty well against Notre Dame in 2007. At that point in history, we were ranked #14, and ESPN was awarding game balls to Austin Scott
.

I hope he gets his mental game in order and becomes successful, but I also wish he had done that before the UM and Illinois games his senior year.

by borisborisboris on Apr 29, 2009 8:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The ND game was classic Morelli

Badly underthrows a go route, leading to a pick six. Then throws a beautiful post pattern later in the game.

I’m not sure Jay Pa is all there mentally either…and the twittering thing does make him a bit of a tool.

Ohhhhhh, you mean #14.

Correct.

Holds the consecutive free throw record, although wasn’t a starter. Ended up quitting before senior year.

I wonder if they got all their place settings?

Honestly, with all the head banging QB14 caused for many fans, I would never wish ill-will towards him. Hopefully, the boy is working with a QB coach and can help the Cardinals.

On a weirder note, I got into reading a series of books by Janet Evanovich while we where at the OBX last summer. One of the main characters name is Joe Morelli. It took me about half way through the book to NOT associate a fictional character with QB14.

I dont know about anyone else

but I’ve never wished any ill-will towards him. It was more the fact that he had some sort of ill-will to every PSU fan who wanted to see him succeed.

I just always felt bad for his mother when he got booed, poor Antuny (said with real Pittsburg style pronouncitation).

I never had any ill will towards him (or anyone else for that matter, including Pryor, Henne, etc)

and he was our starting QB, and won 9 games both years, so he really wasn’t that terrible, but man he just seemed like such wasted potential. I would love to have another successful QB in the league, though.

We might not wanna admit it

But he is all over the passing records lists at PSU.

also what about his first pass as a starter in 06 against akron? absolute bomb to Butler.
After that i was like “this season should be fun.” FAIL

Exhibit #1 from gopsusports.com

The only Penn State quarterback to throw for 2,000 yards in more than one season, Morelli started all 26 games the past two seasons, leading the Nittany Lions to 18 wins, including bowl victories over Tennessee and Texas A&M, and a pair of Top 25 finishes. The former Penn Hills High School All-American finished his career leading or among the top five in numerous Penn State season and career passing lists, including:

  • Season Passing Yardage (2nd, 2,651 in 2007)
  • Career Passing Yardage (5th, 5,275)
  • Most Passing Yards in a Half (231 vs. FIU in 2007)
  • Most 2,000-Yard Passing Seasons (1st, 2)
  • Season Pass Completions (1st, 234 in 2007; 2nd, 208 in 2006)
  • Career Pass Completions (2nd, 460)
  • Season Pass Attempts (1st, 402 in 2007; 2nd, 386 in 2006)
  • Career Pass Attempts (3rd, 822)
  • Season Touchdown Passes (T 4th, 19 in 2007)
  • Career Touchdown Passes (6th, 31)
  • Career 200-Yard Passing Games (T 3rd, 11)
  • Season Total Offense (3rd, 2,638 in 2007)
  • Career Total Offense (6th, 5,154)

One of my friend's roommate's boyfriends

has a dog named Morelli (apparently the guy either went to Penn State, or was just a big fan…I’ve never met him, though), and occasionally we’ll be at the dog park together with my dog Nittany, and their dog Morelli. I always comment on how unfortunate of a name he has, but honestly I’ve always thought it was pretty cool that at a dog park in East Lansing there are 2 unrelated Penn State dogs.

Oh yeah, and he had some pretty passes. If he can just figure out the proper times to actually pass, or to throw it away, or to take the sack, or to not stare down his recievers, then I think he’ll make a great QB. I just don’t know if it is JayPa’s inability to teach these skills (at least to a non-mobile QB), or if it was Morelli’s inability to learn/do them.

I think that’s about all I have to say about Morelli.

Don’t laugh, he does not know he is small, has no fear and everyone loves him.

Personally

I was geeked with his potential, throw in the rifle arm , and the pass to butler to start the career and there was no place to go but down, and down we went, anyone know exactly how many td’s he threw against tOSU as opposed to for tOSU?

Because it's a Bowl Game!!

Yeah, we're rapidly approaching...

…the point where piling on is useless, much as it pains me to write. In fact, we probably reached that point last April.

I hope he catches on with AZ. I really do. And I won’t make fun of him if he doesn’t.

He did have some great throws...

But his habit of goig into a shell immediately following a bad throw was his undoing. And I never had a shred of confidence in him when the game was on the line.
