Really les, really?
Its been reported that Les Miles plans on twittering DURING games this fall. He will twitter before and after games and at haltime he will dictate to a graduate assistant turned twitterjockey.
The real interesting part is the straight admission that the tweeting is for recruiting purposes.
Absolutely, it's for recruiting purposes," Miles says. "It allows us to communicate, to those people that subscribe, blasts of information. … It's also an opportunity for those prospects that subscribe to communicate to us.
Will this flat out admission be enough to make the NCAA put their foot down and eliminate Jaytweet, tazers and all?

C’mon – just up and change your account name to Baconway6 and be done with it.
Help us out here. You know you want to.
Yeah, I think Twittering will be next on the NCAA hit list, with Facebook ‘status’ taking it’s place (as long as coaches allow open viewing, and don’t ‘friend’ any prospects).
Of course, that will end up being verboten too, replaced by the next networking site (Plaxo?), which will then be banned, then replaced, etc., etc., etc.
Oh – and ad infinitum. (Just wanted to get that in there).
Whether the bans will hold up under a challenge is the question. You can’t muzzle coaches completely.
Coaches will always attempt to stay one step ahead of the law NCAA . This dog will chase its tail forever
Hard to believe that texting was permitted just 2 years ago. Technological progress keeps marching on.

NCAA needs to institute the "JoePa Rule"
Don’t allow any head coaches to have a computer.
Seriously though, if I’m a recruit and one coach “tweets” and another coach doesn’t, would it really make a difference in my decision? There’s something a little off about 40+ year old guys, running around tweeting during their day. Especially tweeting for teenagers’ attention.

Yeah, but
that’s the essence of recruiting – grown men fawning over teenagers.
What would actually happen if recruiting was banned? What if it was decided that that no one could contact any HS kid – that the athlete had to contact schools and ask for a scholarship?
Might be kinda interesting.

Jay's a very smart man for jumping on the Twitter-wagon
It’s 100% aimed at recruiting, and nothing else. By using the channels of communication common to these highschool kids, you’re not only giving them the feeling of ‘inside access’ but you’re literally speaking to them in a language they understand. You can recruit w/out directly contacting any of these kids, so it doesn’t even have to follow the recruiting blackout rules.
You have to counterbalance the old-school, plain uniforms, and 82-year-old legend head coach with a hip, trendy recruiting tool like twitter. I’ve always been really critical of Jay, but he’s brilliant for doing this and before it becomes cliche.

Recruiting
This isn’t going to fly. NCAA rules prohibit a coach from making recruiting calls from the site of competition. It’s just a matter of time they add twitter/facebook and the like to the verbage.

Meh...
I use it. Probably not as intended (or as MSM has said one should use it), but it’s not the worst thing ever. Yes, I laugh at it and the insipid notes people seem to post. But I use it more as a news feed of sorts. Blogs let me know when they’ve updated; sports insiders update with interesting news; friends/family let me know of new/interesting aspects in their lives (without being banal). It can be an extremely effective tool for many purposes, or just another internet fad that’s abused by the narcissists.
Most coaches will probably end up falling into the latter. Thankfully JayTweet is full of awesome!

Yeah I really thought the idea was lame...
until we discovered Jaytweet. Its entertaining. I think the source of my negative reaction was to the ridiculous amount of coverage and ‘game changing’ attributes that were being attributed to this thing that is just multicast text messaging. But once I realized it isn’t really that useful and just entertaining it became kind of fun.

Maybe I'm just thinking of the NFL
but aren’t computers banned during games? How is one supposed to tweet without a computer?
