great news
I hope this generates some hype and interest and maybe some other recruits will pull the trigger soon. Silas Redd, I’m looking at you. Also we have some offers out to other receivers, maybe they’ll feel some urgency if they think we’ll only take 2-3 guys this season.

On Saturday in Happy Valley a Nike Football Training Camp session will be held on the campus of Penn State University. A very impressive group of prospects will take part in the camp including not only many super juniors, but some outstanding sophomores as well.
Three Under Armour All-American’s will be on hand, running back Corey Brown (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara), defensive end/linebacker Dakota Royer (Manheim, Pa./Central) and offensive lineman Miles Dieffenbach (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel).
Other Keystone State standouts scheduled to be in State College on Saturday include wide receiver Alex Kenney (State College, Pa./State College), wide receiver Brandon Ifill (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills), defensive back Cullen Christian (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills), offensive lineman Tom Ricketts (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and wide receiver Andrew Carswell and quarterback P.J. Jones (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox).
In the case of Jones, the star signal-caller has already committed to Penn State. The others all have scholarship offers on the table from BCS schools.
There will also be some great prospects on hand from outside the state of Pennsylvania including linebacker Khairi Fortt (Stamford, Conn./Stamford), wide receiver Adrian Coxson (Baltimore, Md./City College), running back Silas Redd (Stamford, Conn./King), tight end Kevin Haplea (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon), offensive lineman Arie Kouandjio (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha) and linebacker/running back Zach Zwinak and offensive lineman Robby Havenstein (Frederick, Md./Linganore).
So the point is, now that Jones and Coxson are committed, they can work on the other recruits who will be attending camp in SC on Sat. It’ll be a big deal b/c many of our top prospects will be there, Redd, Fortt, Royer etc. If we can lock down these prospects this class will be really good.

Also remember
Williams never played wideout until he got to PSU. Coxson clearly has ball catching abilities. I liked how he went up and got the ball in a few of those clips.

The one-handed catch
was sick… plain and simple… I was honestly very impressed by the kid.

Not to jinx him or anything...
But this kid reminds me more of Chris Bell than anyone… Not size-wise, but the catches, the making kids look stupid, etc. If he can keep from drawing a knife on teammates, I think we might have a pretty good player coming our way.
Okay, I'm either a degenerate or I love this site too much
I just realized that I saw the commitment on BWI and instead of reading the article, the first thing I did was come to BSD so I could see the siren. I guess I’m one of those guys that never grew up.

Obviously there’s no other place but BSD you would have ran into this video. Are you insinuating that your web browser is capable of navigating to a URL that doesn’t contain blackshoediaries, or maybe blackheartgoldpants?
Also note the irony of responding to this comment 4 days after it was posted about being out of date.

WHAT?!?!?
But, but but but, he had offers from Florida and Georgia? This MUST be erroneous, we only get slow footed mutants that the SEC would never want.

This is great
I was on youtube watching highlights of Silas Redd, and a person commented that Redd was going to get an offer to Florida and he could not wait to see Penn State fans have a meltdown when Redd commits to Florida. The funny thing is another person mentioned that Coxson had an offer to Florida and there is no way that he would pass up OMG FLORIDA for Penn State. This is a big victory for PSU recruiting. I believe Redd will commit soon as well.

How old is LJ Sr now?
The more this plays out, the more I think that he could be the next HC. I think his leadership qualities make him more valuable as a HC than Scrap. Scrap’s a solder not a general like LJ Sr.
I'm so pumped over this
I watched his film on BWI and I am completely blown away by this kid. It’s not like your usual highlight reals for WR’s where the QB throws up a hail mary and he just outjumps the 5’7" white cornerback for the ball all the time. Coxson runs great routes, shows great hands, and absolutely burns the defense after the catch. And he just looks like an amazing physical specimen. I fully expect him to play right away.

Its good to see
us get talent on the outside for Newsome/Jones. It makes growing QB’s easier when you have that great WR corps, ask Clark, I’m sure things would have been tougher if he didn’t have talent out wide.

Yeah, he's terrifying after the catch.

Indeed
I loved the multiple “run by the defender, stretch out to make the one handed catch, bring the ball in, juke, and run through the fields of green towards the endzone”
and the “run the route, jump higher than the (seemingly) tall DBs, bring down the ball, juke, and run through the fields of green towards the endzone”
Also looks like he’s pretty good at running the reverses.

Speaking of jump balls over 5'7" white CBs
I watched the Prater video on FOS and I just don’t see it. He gets zero separation and gets caught on some plays by those same undersized, slow CBs. I just had to comment because your post reminded me of what I was thinking this morning which was…..why is this Prater kid ranked so highly?
Sometimes it's tough to tell
If the player is good, or the other team sucks. Missed tackles and huge holes are generally what I try and look for.
"I honestly think the "Spread HD" is going to work pretty well, and we’ll be just fine this year". - 8-27-2008
Yeah
like the Coxson punt return, he didn’t field the punt and let it bounce around and then it looked like the other team just let him jog by them. However his other highlights are fabulous.

A couple awesome things about this commitment:
1) Larry Johnson Senior flexes his Maryland muscle once again. This man is pure gold and this proves we are lucky to have him, if the man can prevent OMG SEC from entering our hotbeds, he can do about anything.
2) This is shaping up to be a monster class. If we can continue getting all the kids aho seem to be leaning our way and maybe snag 1 or 2 kids who we may not be favored to get wewill be averaging 4+ stars(FWIW) and will prove our NE dominance.
so far, we have stud LB, stud QB, stud WR, they all appear to be good students and able to help continue the spread HD and our Linebacker SMASH.
super stoked

Gotta love the "smooth R&B" play calling half way through the first video
I’m from B-more originally and this kid is coming from one of the worst neighborhoods in the country. Not saying anything about him personally or anything, just thinking that State College is going to be a different world. I hope he realises how awesome it is.
Awesome!
I don’t want to be Debbie Downer…
Signing day is a ways away. We have to fend off other schools getting excited and trying to steal him…
huge pick up though!

He says he is going to make his commitment AND STICK TO IT! I am really liking this kid after watching his video, seems smart and has his head together.
I agree
He seems to be a good kid. Has a 3.1 GPA according to rivals, and in the interviews I’ve seen with him he has presented himself well. He also didn’t have some big presentation with the declaring, just an interview. Funny how “just an interview” seems quaint at this point huh?

we probably don't have to worry about it TOO much
once it becomes known that he committed to Penn State his star ranking is going to drop to 2 stars.

Not so worried about him
He wanted to commit a few weeks ago on an unofficial visit. I believe the coaches told him to wait and go check out some other schools. He did that and still came back to Penn State. I think he’s solid.

wow this kid is good
side note, playing on those football/baseball fields with the dirt was the worst
Our home field had an old track around the field
and the corner of each endzone there was a 3-4 inch thick steel rail which was the inside barrier for the track. Each corner had grass, steel, and then dirt where the track began. Let me tell you, the fade into the corner of the endzone wasn’t a popular call because you could break your ankle.
A few years ago though they revamped the stadium and put in next turf so that problem doesn’t exist anymore. Lucky suckers!
I noticed
those cow pastures fields too,and figure this kid sprouts a Diamond Cutter every time he thinks about playing in the Beav, with 110,000 maniacs screaming his name.

haha track's around the field were bad
The worst was playing on the fields with syringes and needles. You’d get taken down for a 5 yard loss and come back to the huddle with a heroin needle in your thigh

jtothep bein held DOWN by the man
My gawd, The Man has me by the freakin nuts, and he’s got a vicegrip as you might guess (or those of you who’ve been held down by him before know from memory). Just freakin trashed my weekend. Was sposed to depart for Smith Mtn Lake for a triathlon at 10:30a tomorrow morning, but guess who’s job it now is to explain/teach/coerce his fellow juror what reasonable doubt means? That’s right: my very freedom is tied to my own ability of persuasion. But something tells me that after successfully continuing our deliberation til tomorrow morning, Juror *(&)_)d will show up tomorrow morning with a totally different attitude.
I’ve got very sour grapes about this one kids. Went into it with purity of civic duty in mind and avoided all tricks of evasion. Including the big one that as an independent consultant I will not be reimbursed at my billable rate and I lose coin each day this shite drags on. I’m thinking, I never served in the armed services, I’m too old to be drafted, my grandfather was an Army Colonel, and I’ve done jack in service to my country—this is the very least I can do. And who the frick knows when I’ll need my own personal jury of my peers? Damn, still kinda steamin—although not as much as I was in that jury room watchin that crap go down.
I tell ya, it’s true: no good deed goes unpunished.

How many times do you hear a big time recruit talk up the academics of a school
and Coxson mentions it as his reason at least twice, while the only other reason I can recall was “I can probably get up there and start right away”

Nike Training Camp List...
As some of you may have noticed over the last few months, most of my posts deal with recruiting (I know some may think its a sick but necessary evil, and I get that). Not only is Coxson a solid get, but the athletes that are attending the camp this weekend are a whose who of football talent from the greater Big 10 area. All of the athletes listed above I would take in a heart-beat. I really can’t say enough about PSU’s aggressive recruiting strategy so far this year and its really paying dividends already. Perception is reality in the recruiting world, and the perception that PSU’s class is already loaded with talent (which it is) is only going to continue to open the floodgates in my opinion. Success begets success. If Paul Jones et al start recruiting for us, this could be a monster class talent wise…

I'm guessing
Camps aren’t open to the public? I’d love to go and watch them play, but most likely it’s either in a locked Beaver Stadium, or in Lasche which definitely means it’s closed.
This is great news!
One of the neat things about these early commits is they can get everything together this summer and fall, have a great senior season, then enroll early and get through spring practice with the Lions. That gets them way along the learning curve and ready to play and contribute for the 2010 season. Now, lets get a couple more “hogs” up front, like Eric Schrive, so Newsome/Jones and whom ever plays TB can really show their talent.
