Silas Redd Commits to Penn State

Whoo_siren_medium
Gimme a running back and a siren WOOOOOOO!!!

The much anticipated verbal commitment from Stamford, CT running back Silas Redd finally arrived this morning. The Rivals four-star athlete turned down offers from Boston College, Connecticut, Rutgers, Stanford, Oregon, and Virginia. He was also seeing interest from Florida and Texas.

Here's what you've won.

Silas Redd (via PrazeMedia)

I never thought I would see the day when the Penn State offensive coaches were outrecruiting the defensive coaches, but here we are with a four star quarterback, a four star wide receiver, and a four star running back with just a four star linebacker on the other side. This class is starting to shape up into something special.

Who can we expect to commit next?

I really hope we land Fortt and Floyd…Maybe Silas will help us land Fortt

by GoingDeep on May 3, 2009 10:16 AM EDT reply actions

I'm not 100%, obviously...

but I’ve had a feeling for a couple months that once one of the Redd/Fortt pair commits, the other will follow shortly.

I really feel like we’ll get Fortt this week, and I can’t imagine Royer and Floyd screw around too much longer after – they know this class is going to be selective, and they don’t want to be left out in the cold.

by psume06 on May 3, 2009 10:27 AM EDT reply actions

And just to throw this out

I counted up the recruits I know we’re heavy into (didn’t look at other “sorta interested” types), and if we can just get HALF of the guys we’re going for to commit, we’ll have 12 Rivals top 250… And for once, Rivals will have many of them rated higher than Scout (Royer, Coxson, Redd, Baublitz)

by psume06 on May 3, 2009 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions

yeah, but upon commitment Rivals will lose interest in them

since they won’t have any more “interesting” stories to publish about them, and so either their ratings will decrease, or the ratings of other people who are still available will increase to above what they are listed at now.

If we want to make JayPa and Co. look even better...

…PJ Jones is actually a 5-star QB on scout.

5*

That’s what I was about to say. Maybe Mike is using Rivals’ ratings?

by nittanyroar on May 3, 2009 11:13 AM EDT up reply actions

Fair Enough

I don’t really ever check out Rivals, usually just FOS.

Don't sleep on the defense

I have a good feeling about our defensive prospects.

coaches

Buggs recruited Redd. Not sure who recruited Jones but I’m guessing Tom Bradley was in charge since he’s western Pa. And Coxson was most likely LJ. So….yeah.

by speedomike on May 3, 2009 11:37 AM EDT reply actions

Ha

Excellent point. I probably should have said I never thought I would see the day when offensive recruiting was ahead of defensive recruiting and left it at that.

by BSD on May 3, 2009 11:55 AM EDT up reply actions

Buggs is apparently quite a natural with recruits.

He seems to do very well out there.

Here’s a link to a Nittany Network interview with Redd. It’s a painful listen (just really awkward and boring) but if you’re bored:

Watched the Hatton / Pacquiao fight last night on justin.tv. Hatton would still be lying on that MGM Grand canvas if his trainers hadn’t scraped him off. Semi-related, my future wife is staying at the MGM this weekend in Vegas for a bachelorette (not her’s) party, and they spotted Howie Mandel eating dinner (and there’s no way this wasn’t taken in the girls’ drunken, giggling, “OMG WE’RE BEING SO STEALTH” mode):

Amazing what you can find in the BHGP archives
Howie: Well, no need to worry, because… here’s your offensive coordinator, Ken O’Keefe!

O’Keefe enters from a side door, grinning. Jake’s eyes widen, and he is wracked with panic.

KOK: Hello, Jake!

Howie: We flew him in all the way from Iowa City! How about that!

Jake: I… he’s not supposed… restraini—

KOK: Looks like you’re having a bit of trouble with this! I can help!

Jake backs away from the stage and stands behind his father.

KOK:Oh, don’t worry, I’m not going to touch you.

Howie: Interesting response from the young man, Ken! So, tell me all about what you do and how you, uh… how you plan to help Jake today.

KOK:Well, you see, I…

Ken stops abruptly, grabs Howie’s hand, and licks it. Howie, being extremely germophobic, suffers a full-blown panic attack. He runs screaming in terror off the stage, out of the building, and into oncoming traffic. He was 52.

Two things

1. Is Howie cross eyed?

2. If one is true, is he looking right at the camera?

Very shifty runner. Looks kinda Tomlinson-esq. However...

…I saw no touchdowns until 3:38 of the video. I didn’t watch the whole video, so maybe its just an editing thing.

Just sayin’.

by Dinsdale on May 3, 2009 1:16 PM EDT reply actions

I thought the exact same...

….this guy is great between the 20s but seem to always trip or get caught…

….however the last 4 minutes is extremely impressive…especially the 95 yard TD run.

Very shifty…reminds me more of Reggie Bush, but I can see some LT in him.

Our backfield is going to be sick for the next 4-5 years…maybe there will be some wishbone formations inthe spread HD?!?!?!?!?!

WE ARE.......PENN STATE!

Haha, the wishbone would be sweet. Always loved option football. Even if it doesn’t do as well.

Should be interesting how he is used in conjunction with Curtis Dukes...

A little thunder and lightning won the Giants a Super Bowl, also that has to be the coolest pair of names for a running back combo…

PSU

is building quite the offensive backfield stable: Newsome, Jones, Dukes, Redd, Devon Smith to name a few off the top of my head…

Now that...

is funny ( & historic )…very PSU esque ’Easy…

Of course deserves an answer to your (joke)/question: in the near term it “would be” Beachum…further out… Dukes…(just a snap reply fo ya man!)

Aside: > Dukes is such a monster-back that it would be ashame to have him on the field and NOT give him the ball every time.

He will bring the pure, prototypical, Big10, power-back dimension back to PSU…“coming to a football field to you soon…”

So what is the status of Fortt?

Can we expect to commit anytime soon, are we even his leader?

HS Kids Lookin Old

I’ve always marveled at the sizes of these teenagers coming in to big football programs, but jeesh, some of these dudes are looking downright odenesque.

Check out the defensive star of the nike camp this past weekend, Sharrif Floyd. How old does he look?

I can see a little baby fat in his face, but what about this guy, a USC soph named Armond Armstead. How old does he look?

I thought it was Ken Norton, Jr. when I first saw it.

Wanna guess which position this dude plays?

Look at that dome and scrunched up face!

Hey, this game is fun too and you can make it fun. --j. odrick

I know he's no longer at

jOSU but, as a freshman Greg Oden had the face of a 40 yr old or maybe a well oiled ball glove.
