Mark it down
USC isn’t playing in the title game. Period. If I’m wrong… well, I won’t be wrong, so I won’t say anything else.

they'll lose on October 31st.

For the sake of the Conference, hopefully in Columbus as well.

so confused
Ok, so the Rose Bowl is only obligated to take the B10 Champion and PAC 10 champion? So like, if USC goes to the NC game, then the Rose Bowl can pick whoever? WTF happened with Illinois 2 years ago? Did the Rose Bowl pick them over a team from the B12 or SEC?
BTW I hate the Rose Bowl tie-in, I’d rather play VA Tech in the Fiesta than anyone in the Rose. Just my gut feeling.

Yes
Rose Bowl picked Illinois b/c they are so ZOMG about the Pac 10-Big 10 tradition. I also kind of remember that there weren’t really any other good options that year, but I could be wrong.
by speedomike on May 4, 2009 12:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Missouri that year
would have been a much better option than Illinois, except for the “tradition”
by The JuggerNitt on May 4, 2009 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree
but Missouri was ineligible because of that rule that only 2 teams from a single conference can get BCS bowls. I do think that Missouri definitely should have gotten a BCS bowl instead of that Kansas team that played in the Orange Bowl.

here's how good kansas was that year
I completely forgot that they were in yet another unmemorable Orange Bowl

i remember that game well
b/c i was laughing hysterically at their ‘tweet tweet tweet’ sound fx and the ridiculous bird dancing the students were doing. And their coach is ridiculously huge.

Didn't they beat Va Tech though?
If so, and I don’t feel like looking it up, it says more about the ACC than anything.
by Screen Name 20 on May 4, 2009 2:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah they won
The ACC has by far the worst record in BCS games of all the big six conferences. They are only 2-9 in BCS bowls and one of their 2 wins was against VT before they became a member.
by Brett Brown on May 5, 2009 11:31 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
They are allowed to pick any eligible team if the Big 10 or Pac 10 champ is playing in the NC
but they are so set in their traditions, that they’ll usually take a Big 10 or Pac 10 team if they are available, even if it means passing on a better team.

These will be dead wrong, but I'm bored
Rose Bowl: Penn State vs. USC
Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma vs. Boise State
Sugar Bowl: LSU vs. West Virginia
BCS Championship: Texas vs. Florida (Go Horns. God help us if the SEC wins again.)

They predict we get 2 BCS teams again.
I hope not, that bumps every team up a notch and we end the season like last year, not good for the B10. I would like to play Vatech in the Orange bowl though.

Agree
But I think its inevitable with the amount of spots the BCS. The ACC, Pac 10, and Big East aren’t getting two teams. Having said that, the Big 10 needs to nut up and start winning some of these big games instead of hoping to only get one team in.

I think Ohio State can beat VaTech though.

They can probably beat Oklahoma too
As much as they like to pile on the Big 10 for losing BCS games, for some reason, the MSM has almost completely ignored the fact that Oklahoma’s BCS ineptness stretches back quite far.

It would be great if...
VaTech makes it through their joke of a conference tough schedule nearly undefeated and in the top 5. Thats the prediction. Now, we know Texas, OU, UF and ND are the only teams that get more media bj’s than VT, so take the predictions as you may…
But really, I don’t think there has been more than 3 VT teams EVER (1999, 2004-05) that could have competed with the PSU team of that given year, and this year will be the same…
SOOOOO, what I’m saying is: I love that pick, I think, barring injury on our side, its a guaranteed BCS win.
by psume06 on May 4, 2009 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Sorry, but I want SC
Besides, I don’t trust VaTech to make it through the ACC unscathed.

And
Not going to the Rose Bowl would mean that we didn’t win the Big Ten outright and lost to either Ohio State or, god forbid, Iowa.
I swear, I can’t take “THE Ohio State Buckeyes: 5 straight Big Ten championships!”

WTF
The Orange might give thought to West Virginia and its rabid fan base, but the game would get more overall attention by taking Penn State or Ohio State.
Since when has West Virginia had a better fan base than either PSU or OSU?

OOOOOOH
they’re talking about West Fuckin Virginia.
I thought they were talking about West Virginia (that school Penn State is 48-9-2 against).
Also, seriously, no one actually thinks they have a better fan base, right?
by The JuggerNitt on May 4, 2009 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Better fan base? No
But more rabid? Yes. It is my belief that there are more West Virginia fans with rabies than Penn State fans.

It says PSU and OSU would give the Orange Bowl more attention than WVU.

Tie-Ins: Big Ten No. 3 vs. SEC
Way Too Early Projection: Iowa vs. LSU
Top 5 Others Considered: 1) Ole Miss, 2) Georgia, 3) Penn State, 4) Michigan State, 5) Alabama
Capital One Bowl
Jan. 1 / 12 p.m. ET Orlando, Fla. ABC

I think we could win these. Although I think Iowa will finish ahead of MSU.

There were some other non-BCS matchups that I thought looked favorable for the Big Ten. But winning those won’t matter. In 2006 we beat Tennessee and Wisconsin beat Arkansas and all we heard about was how slow the Big Ten was b/c Ohio State and Michigan got worked over by Florida and USC.
by speedomike on May 4, 2009 1:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
True
But the media might not bash us as much if MSU and Iowa won, we beat the pretty boys, and jOSU won.
I mean, they would probably try to bash us, but it would sound dumber.

by ReadingRambler on May 4, 2009 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
well right
hard to bash a conference when their top 4 teams beat top non-conference competition, but they would still definitely bash us if the entire conference won all our bowl games, except that PSU lost to USC, and tOSU lost to Texas. The BCS games are pretty much the only measuring stick the MSM uses.

What is with his hair???
It’s like he was standing near a janitor’s closet when he was getting the picture taken and at the EXACT MOMENT the camera snapped, the door fell open and the mop landed on his head. Seriously.
