Paterno Postpones Addition To Nittany Lion Doghouse
"That's been blown way out of proportion," Paterno said at a function with more than 400 Penn State alumni and boosters in the Washington, D.C., area. "It's a party, and my guys horsing around with marijuana? You know, we test them all the time. And the four kids who were renting the apartment were not in the apartment when the police got in there."
...
"But they're four young kids. They're sophomores in college, and who knows?" Paterno said. "Unfortunately a lot of times your buddies come up for the Blue-White game. I'm very reluctant to take any kind of position. If I find out somebody was dead wrong and really involved in the whole deal, then we'll take appropriate action, but right now I don't think we would."

Thank god Joe is sitting on the fence on this one.
We really don’t need any more suspensions.
Success without honor is like an unseasoned dish, it will fill you up but it won't taste good. - Joe V. Paterno

JoePa's reaction
Hopefully this will calm people down. I think his reaction to the situation is quite right. With over 40 years of head coaching experience and dealing with stuff like this comes wisdom. His comments show that wisdom of not overreacting but not turning a blind eye to misbehavior in cases where there’s evidence of such.

Good/Bad?
I don’t know if this is a good reaction or a bad one. I guess really it must not be that bad if Joe is letting them off the hook considering all the other problems the program has had. Given Bowman’s two recent positive tests maybe the whole team has been tested and those guys have all passed. Who knows. I just don’t know if his lack of action is going to come back and bite PSU in the ass in the media.

oh the interwebs
are going to schlep us on this one. cue up the “Joe Paterno is… just like Bowden… old and senile… wouldn’t have taken this stance 20 years ago” I can see the recourse now.
with his response this time, I think he’s finally got the fact (unfortunately) that students are apt to general douchebaggery. I just wish the kids would surprise us and not be part of any douchebaggery
