Jay Paterno for Congress?
Interesting article about Jay Paterno's political amibitions. I've been following JayTweet for awhile now and he's got a good thing going there, but Lord help us if he really were to become a US Representative for Pennsylvania. Looks like that's what he's got in mind.
"I'm a coach first and foremost," he says, "so probably not now, but somewhere down the road, three years down the road, who knows?"
I also thought this line was pretty funny about his dad's salary being made public.
He told the audience that he was happy that newspapers finally (using the state's new right-to-know law) reported his father's salary, which for years was a tightly held state secret.
It's $1.03 million (not including outside income). Jay says that he was happy to see it in print because "now my mom and I know what it is."
Please, Jay, stick to coaching and Tweeting.

Guh
I hope he never gets elected to any office. The government is already full of mouth-breathers that are out of touch with reality.

He'd never win
regardless of whatever party you subscribe to, or lack there-of, it would take an absolute disaster for the other party primary candidate(s) for him to win the nomination. He’s a celebrity, without a legal, or political background (other than his interests in getting involved in politics). You can only be elected as a celebrity in CA.
Not necessarily...
Tom Osborne
JC Watts
Steve Largent
Jack Kemp
Bill Bradley
Jim Bunning
Jim Ryun
All athletic celebrities elected to national office…
In addition, Gopher from The Love Boat and Cooter from Dukes of Hazard were both US congressmen…
let's not all forget
Lynn Swan® had 40% to Ed Rendell’s (D) 60% in the PA 2006 Gubernatorial election. Not that far off.

lol, and he's also apparently a registered trademark

haha, did you try to designate him a republican?
Uh oh, we’ve been over this registered trademark stuff, expect a call from a lawyer pretty soon.

And he didn’t even speak English! Now look at him!

I think this was a list of non-CA politicians
(though I don’t know if any of them might be from CA)
otherwise I would have thrown Ronnie on there.

Reagan was an athlete?

and actually yes he IS an athlete
since, according to the halftime interview of the 1987 Fiesta Bowl (which I now posess, thank you very much), Reagan talks about getting a job as a sports broadcaster (at ewww Iowa) by “imagining” a football game (at Eureka College), and he basically just recounts the end of his last college game, where they won despite him missing a block for his QB to run behind, but in his version he didn’t miss the block. So HA!!! (to Rambler, for unsuccessfully, and erroneously trying to make fun of my comment)

Wasn’t trying to make fun, just didn’t think he was an athlete.

"so probably not now, but somewhere down the road, three years down the road, who knows?"
a Paterno talking about retiring from coaching about 3 years down the road or so. . . does this have any credibility whatsoever?

I'm wondering
if he said that on purpose as a joke, which is pretty funny, since that’s exactly what Joe would say.
Jayboy for congress?
He would have to move to an urban area to win with his attitude and stances because he will never win in Central Pa or anywhere with even a minor conservative lean.
BUT
He would finally be on his own and be judged by his work, not his daddy. That would be refreshing.
Nothing against Jay, just want him out of SC and UP and PSU. Anywere would be acceptable. The north slope of Alaska would be nice.

Did you watch our offense last year?

Seriously
The FIRE JAYPA pitchforks have been hung up in the shed for a while. We joked last year that he designed the Spread HD playing on his PS3, turns out even if he did, it worked brilliantly.
Silly dawson....
thats how the OMGB12 designed their offense.
Put a tarp on that circus! - showtime @ BSD
Well they obviously didn't test their offenses
on Big10 defenses, which Jay obviously did with his PS3. I don’t really play sports games, but I’m assuming in NCAA FB 200*, when you play a big 12 league matchup, only the offenses appear on the screen.
is there an EA USGOV 2010 game for JayPa to practice on?

His brother already ran, and lost.
Scott.
Scott’s like Jay except he’s accomplished asolutely nothing in his life despite being born into the wealth and a virtual royal family. He ran on the “I’ll just do whatever Bush or Santorum tell me” platform 4 years ago and it failed miserably. He even had signs with PSU blue and white with just the name Paterno on them, which were everywhere. I found it offensive that he shamelessly used his fathers acheivements (and money) to further a half-assed political career. Now he works as a lobbyist in Harrisburg…
"We hugged as grown men do. It was a great moment. Then, it was business as usual." -- LJ Sr.
Pitchfork in hand and ready
Can Scott get Jay a job? Then Galen can get the credit for what he has done instead of Jay taking or being given all the credit. Can’t anyone see the PR campaign for Jay? Speaking engagements, credit for the QB recruits, credit for saving the seals, whales and polar bears? It’s obvious that the fix is in. The Paterno dynasty in action. Nothing against Joe but the Jay hire was a mistake from the beginning. He was learning on the job and still is. You don’t hire a novice when there are experienced, proven coaches out there. Why was Galen brought in? To tutor Jay and cover for him. Why don’t we ever hear Galen Hall’s name when the offense is on a roll? I realize Galen is a very private person but the media is being fed Jay 24/7. Enough!
