Football Schedule solution
ESPN.com has a story noting how to solve the scheduling problem in college football, by implementing the conference challenges as seen in basketball. The only thing I don't agree with are his match ups and justifications, but it does pose an interesting idea. Should college football implement the conference challenge idea? Which conference would you want to see the Big 10 take on first?

Here's a better solution
Let’s have preseason bowl games. If you have them on the last weekend in August you don’t have to worry about the players missing class. I’m sure the NCAA and university presidents would go for it because it would mean more money. And with the weather in August you could host some games up north in cities like New York, Boston, Indianapolis, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Seattle.
They used to have them years ago. It was called the kickoff classic, but the NCAA put a stop to it.

12th game
They got rid of all the pre-season games when the permanently added the 12th game, using the “too many games can affect the athletes performance in school” justification.

that's what I figured, but
why couldn’t they just have the 12th game for some teams BE the Football/Pigskin Classics?

That is allowed
Last years Alabama/Clemson game and this years Alabama/VT game is something called the Chick-Fil-A College Kickoff. Its the 12th game on the teams schedules and not an extra game.

yeah, great,
fall right into the OMG the world’s gonna end (SEC vs Big XII) fuster cluck again.
the battle of two basketball conferences (Big East/ACC)
and the tradition (BigTen/Pac10)
haven’t seen those ideas before, I’d be more impressed if he lined up Pac10 vs. Big East, ACC vs. Big XII, and SEC vs. BigTen or any variation EXCEPT the one he listed

Again, why do I read these guys?
Indiana vs. Southern California
Honestly, it doesn’t matter which Big Ten team plays USC. Even the Hoosiers could play the Trojans as well as the rest of the Big Ten teams did the past few seasons.
Maybe I should just stick to watching the games and ignoring these dingbats for good.

ESPN has gone for the entertainment angle
rather then good sports journalism more often then not anyway. I just watch ESPN News to avoid the crap they produce.

I haven't gone to ESPN other than to look up stats and game-recaps since the OTL piece
it isn’t that I’m boycotting them or anything, I just don’t care what they say anymore.
I do like their E-Ticket stories, though. I like the Sports Guy, too, (but he’s supposed to be a biased, dumbass, media obsessed fan/writer) but I haven’ treally read him much in the past year since he basically started having like 1 story a month

OMG. USC will never be beaten again cuz their on a win streek gainst the bigten losers lulz.
I understand living in the moment, but how does no one understand the cyclical nature of college football? Remember when FSU and Nebraska of the 90’s would never lose again, and late 80’s Miami and those old OU and Bama and PSU teams with the crazy win streaks? Guess what folks at ESPN, eventually USC is going to lose 4 or even (gasp!) 5-8 games. ND, UM, PSU, Bama….all juggernauts, all with down times recently. USC sucked in the 90s for most of it, and they will have a down cycle again. Its almost like the refuse to acknowledge that every decade has had a team or couple teams that dominated.
I want to dig up some old-timey article about the 1900’s UM teams that were undefeated and unscored upon, was the media as retarded back then? Im too lazy to do the research.

Just found this in an archive
The footballering men of the Univerfity of Michigan played a right fine game yefterday againft the fearfome Tiger of the Univerfity of Princeton. Defpite the abject weaknefs of the fcallywag conference of the biggeft ten, the wolverine fighting men befted the fearfome tiger juft a week after befting the honorable Faban and his men from Alabama. However, Alabama could only be befted by the men of the wolverine tribe when Alabama loft their offensive front of giants. Even with a lofs, the Alabama was clearly fuperior to maize. The foutheaftern conference remains as top of the pile.
Wow. They might have been worse back then!

Nice try
but there were only 8 teams in the Big Ten at the time. To miss such an obvious detail is really disappointing.

I think the "honorable Saban and his men from Alabama" was the bigger giveawayb
I also liked the random s’s popping in there instead of f’s. I also don’t think that f’s were used instead of s’s during that time period (but I could be wrong)

The usage of the s's are not random
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_s
The long, medial or descending s (ſ) is a form of the minuscule letter ‘s’ formerly used where ‘s’ occurred in the middle or at the beginning of a word, for example ſinfulneſs (“sinfulness”).</blockquote?

oh, I don't demand accuracy
if anything I demand inaccuracy, for something for me to mock, and to make the rambles more interesting
By the way, is there a more appropriate name for you than Rambler?

Re: long win streaks
Remember when Miami was on their really long win streak in the late 90s early 2000s? Penn State was the last team to have beaten them before the streak.
Remember when OSU was on their really long win streak a few years ago? Penn State was the lsat team to have beaten them before the streak.
