Kyle Baublitz Commits to Penn State
Give me a defensive end and a siren WOOOOOO!!!
Good news this weekend as York, PA defensive end Kyle Baublitz gave his verbal commitment to Joe Paterno over the phone earlier today.
Baublitz was a highly sought after recruit that held offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Clemson, Florida State, Boston College, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Rutgers, and of course, Pitt among others.
Baublitz is listed as a four star prospect on Rivals and a three star on Scout. There's a pretty large discrepancy between the two as Rivals lists him as the No. 5 defensive end in the country while Scout says he's No. 43. As a junior he had 166 tackles and 1.5 sacks as an outside linebacker. He also blocked three punts.
Baublitz is the eighth verbal commit in this class, but just the second on defense. With Maybin and Evans going pro last season, defensive end was a major need for this class, and Baublitz helps meet that need. There's still room for one more in this class.
Welcome to Penn State, Kyle.

In addition to all the cool stuff what you just mentioned, his last name is “Baublitz”.

His nickname is just obvious.
Boom Boom Bau. (What? You were thinking something else?)

Small technicality
He is listed as the 5th rated TE on Rivals, not DE. Not trying to be rude, I just thought maybe that is why there is a discrepancy in his rankings? I know they are often different but maybe Rivals would have him lower as a DE?
Anyways, great get at a definite position of need. As pointed out by KOT above, the name could go down in history at PSU. I mean, a DE with blitz in his name? Welcome to the family Kyle.

Good news..
I figured he would go with us, since he was talking up Penn State and JoePa in an earlier YDR article. I went to Central York and still live close by. Maybe, I will go to a game this year and scout him out personally.

It's a monday morning
so I may be a little slow but how does a high school linebacker project to play DE in college?
Did he put on significant weight this off season? will he be playing DE this year?

It's a projection
He’s already 6’4" and 250 lbs. You have to figure he’s going to put on 15-20 lbs and play around 270.

That's right
I still say it’s too german sounding to be a “good Penn State name”
The good Penn State names have to end in a vowel like Benfatti, D’Onfrio, Wisneiwski, Scioli, and sometimes y (Posluszny).

Hmm... except for QBs
Sacca… Morrelli…
I think Blackledge only worked out because the E is silent.
No, I’ll take my QB names ending in -s, -n, or -k any day. Of course we’ll all get to see how the next silent E works out next year…

Don't forget these are young kids...they can grow
Remember Brad Scioli (sp) was a QB in highschool and he played DE/TE at PSU and DT in the pros.
