Double Secret Vacation
(For the life of me, I'll never understand why the NCAA operates the way it does. However, if they're giving Florida State 15 days to respond, it probably wasn't great news for Bowden.)
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The NCAA's Committee on Infractions has given Florida State officials 15 days to respond to its answer on the school's appeal of sanctions that could strip coach Bobby Bowden's of 14 coaching victories.
But the NCAA's answer Tuesday to Florida State's appeal was being kept secret by the collegiate sports governing body in accordance with its bylaws.
Florida State is challenging a portion of the sanctions announced in March that would force the school to vacate as many as 14 of Bowden's 382 career wins — just one fewer than all-time major college leader Joe Paterno of Penn State. The school also lost scholarships.
Two dozen football players were among 61 Florida State athletes involved in the cheating.

Yeah, if you think the NCAA is going to get this straightened out before the season I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

If only there was a set of rules that they enforced consistently
oh wait, this is the NCAA…what was I thinking?

"Why yes, Mr. NCAA representative
We would love to accept those wins back, as well as 4 additional wins for the inconvenience. That would be lovely."
I’m guessing it didn’t go that way. I would guess it was basically “Piss off”. But It boggles the mind that they can’t make it public.

Secrecy makes sense
I think it makes sense for the NCAA to keep it’s ruling secret — it’s only until Florida State has a chance to respond. What’s the problem with that?

I really just want this thing to be over already — make a damn decision and stick to it. I mean, this isn’t a murder trial — is there a need for all the back and forth?

The sad thing is.......
no matter what happens, this is going to be a big, nauseating, repetious, topic of conversation all year.

It will be sad
When Florida State responds it will be on College Game day and they will talk about it a bit.
Then at a press conference someone will ask Joe about it. And he’ll go “Ah. heck, I don’t care about those wins. Sometimes I don’t think you guys even know what you’re talking about. Back in 19ot6 we used to goto the nickelodeon to watch the moving picture shows and get some victory cabbage….”

That's the saddest and most pathetic part of this whole saga, to me at least
“Oh who cares about the other sports we have here whose wins have, and actually will be vacated, and their championships, etc. stripped of them. We need to protect Bobby at all costs.”
It’s always about Bowden in these details that come out about fighting the NCAA ruling. I’ve never seen anything mentioned as to the impact to the other sports players. I mean I’m a big college football fan, but to not even care if something like our V-ball team (knock on wood) had to vacate wins is pretty pathetic. These students train their asses of (probably for as long and hard as any football team would do), and trained and practiced for years, and now they get a huge slap in the face because FSU is trying to save the image and wins of Bowden, while it doesn’t even seem to give two shits that other sports are affected, and is perfectly willing to throw them to the wolves for one man’s legacy (and I use that term lightly…cough….U of Mexico…cough cough).
The entire FSU alumni base, and the administrators should be absolutely appalled by what this has turned into. And it really hurts me, even though I don’t play a college sport, to know that not only do students of other sports involved have to vacate their wins, but that the years of dedication that the athletes of those other sports gave, that did follow the rules to bring glory to their university, who they gave their all for, are now being cast aside by the FSU AD, who obviously seems to not value or even respect the hard work, training and dedication that they showed to the university. But then they seem perfectly willing to bend over backwards to protect the legacy of a coach (unlike all the others who’s teams were caught cheating) and who allowed his own players to get out of control and violate NCAA policy, then shrug off any responsibility for it. Obviously the other team’s who cheated will lose their wins and championships because a few were involved, but it sure doesn’t appear to me that the FSU administration really cares to fight for those wins to be returned, but Bowden is totally worth throwing all of your other student athletes under the bus for.

Umm...
If you’ve seen photos, you’ll notice our Womens V-Ball have not, in fact, trained their asses off.
Quite the contrary. But I get your point.

You're right
and actually, I don’t think anything could actually work their asses completely (except for maybe a cheek reduction surgery, not as in lipo. If they can do it for boobs, I’m guessing they can also do it for those who have developed unproportional asses to their already thin bodies).
Oh, and I also here their asses are bulletproof.

Nice save, that could have gotten ugly.

Yeah
I saved myself from getting my own assed worked by some of the cynical, sarcastic bastards on this site (PS, I’m totally one of those cynical sarcastic bastards).
On the other hand, if it was a hot womens volleyball team or something, working their asses still applies.
