Yeah, I don’t get picking Western Michigan-Michigan over Akron-PSU. Actually, I don’t get either being chosen for ABC over Navy-Ohio St (which is on ESPN)
I also really don’t get Central Michigan-Michigan being chosen for ESPN/ESPN2 over Syracuse-PSU.

What are you talking about?
If anything I think it sucks for the people going to the game that all three are noon starts. I’m loving this announcement. If the Cuse game had been on ESPN they probably wouldn’t have televised it here in Texas. Maybe I could have purchased it on Gameplan, but that’s extra money out of my pocket. Last year there was no way I could have watched the Cuse game down here. It wasn’t on television in Texas. Not that it mattered because my power was out anyway from Hurricane Ike rolling through the night before.

Looks like I'll be leaving at 6:30 a.m. from Harrisburg for those games.
But really, noon games in September are kind of nice. It’s still warm enough by 10 a.m. and the traffic leaving isn’t nearly as bad as it is for 3:30 and later kickoffs.
And for you, hell, games start at 11 a.m.! Kegs and eggs, mang. (I used to LOVE this about living in Denver. Football all friggin’ day.)

I'm shooting for 8am
But noon games in Sept are awesome, b/c the tailgating happens after the game and you can relax and leave when you please with little concern about traffic… I’ll be up for (hopefully) all the homegames this year and the Sept are always the most fun for tailgating.

if you just adjust your sleep cycle to more of a mountain or pacific time zone. I love crawling out of bed at noon and turning on the TV for some exciting matchups like Akron. Ok, that last part was slightly sarcastic, as I’m never excited for Akron, except for their adorable, harmless looking mascot.

11 AM starts are awesome
Cook up some breakfast for the pregame. Throw some dogs on the grill at halftime. The game is over by 2 PM and I got the rest of the day to watch more football or do whatever.
It’s also nice when the night games start at 7 PM and I can go to bed at 10:30.

You’re wrong. You didn’t get the PSU-Syracuse game last year because it was a Big East home ghame and thus governed by their TV contract. So, it was on ABC regional but out of region it was only on Gameplan.
If Syracuse at PSU were on ABC regional this year, it would be on ESPN/ESPN2 everywhere else and you’d have gotten it in Texas. And all primarily games on ESPN or ESPN2 are carried nationally.
Basically put, virtually all Big Ten home games are on nationally. The only exception is nighttime games on ABC which are regionalized, like PSU-Illinois last year.

I don’t drink all that much, yes, in that regard, I agree I’m the worst excuse for a PSU student. What I meant was I usually sleep excessively, especially on weekends (normal ones). Normally, like as in now that I’m on summer break sleep trumps all because there’s not much PSU stuff to wake up for, except for arts fest in a few weeks, that will also take top priority.

Hopefully that will change
Collegian is reporting the seniors didn’t even sell out their own tickets. Juniors didn’t sell out until the afternoon. I haven’t heard anything about sophs, who’s sale was today, Freshman go tomorrow, and grad students Friday.
So in other words, the people who got tickets got them because they wanted to go, there’s no more mass scalping for huge wads of cash on eBay, etc. Noon might be a little slow to fill up, but shouldn’t be as bad as usual hopefully.

I think they'd have a revolt on their hands if they did
I’m not sure what happened this year. Whether the slow turnout was a result of eliminating students from scalping their tix, the crappy schedule, or just a bad economy. I’m in the largest class in PSU history, and I’m completely shocked by this.
by dawsonPSU10 on Jun 24, 2009 3:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Why would there be a revolt?
It looks like demand has pretty well maxed out. The people who really want tickets will get them in the first couple of days. People who wait a month to apply for tickets shouldn’t expect to get them anyway.

IMO this is just a slow year
If they went and downgraded the amount of student seats for the next year, I’d think the student body would be pretty pissed off. There’s a lot of factors playing into this years slow sale (and it’s not over yet, a large Freshman class has yet to go, and then grad students), which would hardly be a good reason to downgrade student seating for the next year. Again, this is all hypothetical, and just my opinion.
by dawsonPSU10 on Jun 25, 2009 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would doubt that
It would be ignorant to change the allotment based on one year. Keep in mind the economy, the price of all 8 games, and the fact that they didn’t send as many email reminders this year could have lead to the slower sales. Senior sales were slow last year. I imagine that the new system will be more familiar and the tickets will sell faster. Plus we haven’t even seen what will happen with those extra tickets. If they all get sold I don’t think it will matter.

by psuphiman80 on Jun 24, 2009 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Like I said above, there's no way that would happen
There are 79,135 undergraduates who would go ape shit if they ever decreased the student section. Besides, the craziness of the student section looks awesome on TV, and especially in person, so I imagine it’s a great recruiting tool. Bottom line: unless they cut the number of students down, there’s no way they’ll ever risk pissing off 79,000 students.
by dawsonPSU10 on Jun 25, 2009 12:41 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Besides
They knew, and predicted a drop off in “sold out in 60 seconds” level of demand this year. Mainly because the tix are electronic, and unscalpable, plus the economy sucks.
by dawsonPSU10 on Jun 25, 2009 12:42 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
demand
Speaking of demand, didn’t they say last week that the total number of pre registered students was a tad shy of 40,000? Well what happened to those other 20,000 then? Did roughly 5,000 kids per class forget to log on to buy tickets this week? I find it odd/interesting.
Let's Go State
by rmcmillen50 on Jun 25, 2009 7:17 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Probably a number of things
Economy is bad, people missing the pre-registration, lack of constant e-mail reminders on dates, lack of ability to scalp your season tix for 7x what you paid for them, etc. etc.

I'm not saying it will happen
but if they for some reason DON’T sell out (they obviously will this year ,and most years), but if they DON’T, then I could easily see them downsizing the student section.

They know that sure, they could make a few extra bucks in the short run by shrinking the student section. But that’s not the way to build and maintain a long term fanbase. Who are the rich alumni who donate big sums to the university? Former students.

Well, they do, but only because we’re forced to pay the increased tuition they increase every year or find another school. I’d be willing to bet the money from 70,000 students all paying increased tuition is worth a bit more than the 3 million in extra ticket sales.

my dad has a half-season package (left field, second level…I think 233B row 11, http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/nyy/ballpark/new_stadium_seat_selector.jsp), which alternates games, as well as a sunday package (left field bleachers). FACT: Syracuse's AD that hired Greg Robinson was really Tim Curley in disguise
he wasn’t content with just Eastern Illinois, Akron, and Temple sucking

Here's an odd one
So, it seems that the Minnesota at Syracuse game in week #1 is on ESPN2 at noon. Which means that Disney apparently felt that Minn-Syracuse is worthwhile to have on ESPN2 over Akron-PSU, but Syracuse-PSU is not good enough to be chosen for ESPN2 over Central Michigan-Michigan St. Huh?

With Minn-SU...
… there’s an outside chance of a good game. When you guys play us, we’re going to get blown out, even if Doug Marrone turns out to be the next Pete Carroll.

Is the BTN still hard to get?
I thought nearly everywhere had access to the BTN. If it wasnt on the basic cable package I thought it was on the usual ‘extended sports’ package thats usually like $5/month (at least on dish network and comcast).

I think my cable operator is
the only one in the nation that still refuses to carry it.
If anyone wants to help a brotha out and spam Cox Communications on my behalf with BTN emails please do so.

my crappy cable co
Blue Ridge Cable, in the Poconos, does not carry it. They suck, I have called and emailed. They also won’t carry Howard TV
Story is it is expensive for the cable co’s to aquire, and BTN insists on being part of the basic cable package, esentially making sure the cable co does not benefit from anyone upgrading to get it

Cablevision
Anyone from the NYC area with Cablevision? They don’t carry BTN either; it’s not even available through an extended package. Might be time to switch to Verizon FiOs

You're in luck
Cablievision is adding the BTN. You just gotta add the sports tier.

Yeah, yeah, I hear that all the time. Triumph the Insult Comic Dog doing Hawaii’s weather is the classic insult.
Still sucks, though. The 3:30 games are really nice – 9:30 is easy, over by 1, still have the rest of the day.
Thankfully, the 6 AM games all suck.

I do not, and will not use an aerosol deodorant. Once you’ve roomed with a student who uses it, you tend to hate it since the smell lingers in the air for a long time, not to mention it makes me feel like I’m choking on fumes, makes me light headed and gives me a killer headache. I’ll stick with the old deodorant stick, thank you very much.

I read somewhere that guys on submarines don’t use aerosol because of something to do with flammable stuff in the “boat”.
So, ummmm, there’s your random fact about deodorants for the day. Carry on.

So I doubt they are using any kind of deodorant.

I do vaguely remember one semi-related story
his boat was at some dock, and there was a ceremony going on, with a bunch of people in their dress whites (perhaps even their captain, or someone above the captain). I guess there is a way to eject the waste from the head (toilet) (perhaps like a blowhole?), and they proceeded to cover all the people on the dock with the foul foul contents. I wish I remembered the story more accurately, because it is a rather amusing example of the shit they would pull.
Another fun story he tells is that when they earn their “dolphins” (certified to be on the sub) their buddies would take them to a bar and each buy a drink or shot of something, and drop the dolphins to the bottom of the glass, and you don’t get them until you drink them out. So anyway, my dad doesn’t know quite what they put in his, but he has a pretty iron stomach, and was supposedly the only one of his group that didn’t puke from it all, and wound up being the one having to bring everyone back to base.

Nah, they use stick deodorant
I read that some place.
Also, if you use hot water in your shower for too long, they’ll turn off the heat and damn near freeze you to death.
