We're Penn State..... There will be no meetings.....
I remember when We Are Marshall came out there was some discussion on here as to who coined the phrase "We Are'' first. I'm not sure if anyone ever knew of any concrete evidence as to whether it was Marshall or Penn State. I found this link and i thought it was rather interesting, and a very good story! I'm sure this is old knowledge and people already know about it, but for those of you who haven't seen it..... here it is.....

It was confirmed that we were doing the WE ARE thing way before Marshall, however we likely stole it from USC…

I remember this coming up before
and whether or not the phrase was said then, it is pretty much acknowledged that the cheer didn’t start until much later, and likely without any knowledge of Suhey ever saying it.
I think the best version I heard was something along the lines of our cheerleaders overheard the cheer somewhere else (and I think millzners is right with it being USC), and bringing it back for our use.

Agreed...
This is a great story and all, but it’s obviously not the origin of “We are… Penn State” as a stadium cheer or expression of school spirit. I’ve sent an E-mail or two in the past to try to get a definitive answer on the exact year the cheer began, but haven’t turned up anything solid. If we borrowed it from USC, that’s fine… as long as they don’t care. The Marshall thing sucks ass, because they borrowed it from us and now the media is pawning it off like they originated it… and, at best, they’re third class citizens in that regard.
Anyway, anyone who can find evidence of the exact year the cheer began at Penn State is a better man than me. Would it be correct to suggest it was sometime in the late 70s or early 80s? Let me know what we all think (or remember).

what is not up for debate . . .
is who does it best. Kind of like the whole whiteout thing. I could care less if it came from Hockey. It’s nothing like the Beav on a Saturday night.
