A request: classifieds section for BSD
I don't know if this has been brought up before, but I was wondering if BSD and/or SB Nation could start a classifieds section so those who have extra tickets, or students who want to put up their apartment for rent during weekends - or sports memorabilia or whatever - can do so easily where interested parties congregate.
I don't know if BSD has the traffic to make it successful, or whether SB Nation has the apps to make it possible, but I think it would be a great benefit to fans. It could possibly bring in more traffic to the site as well.
I guess the only downside is that we'd have to reveal our real names and sensitive info, but I think it's worth it.
And if you haven't guessed already, I'm having a hell of a time procuring tickets and finding room accommodations for this upcoming season. The older the alumn, the lesser the connections.
Thanks for the fanpost! Please do not post any content from a premium site that requires a subscription. Also, if you just want to share a link consider using fanshots instead. Thanks.

The older the alum, the more it costs.
And MR – this dude’s old (‘78). I remember paying about $20 for my student season tickets, but $140 for my daughter’s (’08).
As a matter of fact, my yearly tuition and room and board (roughly $3K ) was about what I’m paying for one room at Motel 6 for 8 home game weekends this year. Since we have 4 season tickets ( about $1700) and 2 rooms, the expense spirals upward pretty rapidly.
Does this help you with your question? Of course not.
My point? Who knows. It’s time, tho, for you young whippersnappers to lube up your checkbooks and get kicked in the crotch like the rest of us geezers.
I need a nap.

I remember
being able to sell my student ticket for face value to another student (which is only appropriate) and having to break a 20 to do it. And that was only 6 years ago. Granted it was the dark years and the games I were willing to sell for weren’t the moneymakers, but still, its better than shilling out hundreds for Ohio State. I’m too country to spend money on Ohio State.

Oh yeah?
Well when I was at dear Ole State, we had to register for a PSU email address and then use it through Eudora. Remember Eudora?
And to use the internet, we had to plug the computer into the phone jack. Modem’s back then used to emit a weird sound.
And JoePa was a plucky 70 years old. And…
Oh, 1978. I was four.

Ha!
When I was at PSU to register for classes you had to run around the gym in the IM building gathering up computer punch cards.
Now, what was the question?
by confirmy on Jul 1, 2009 1:18 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Punch cards?
We ran from table to table trying to get the class, and get it in an open time slot we had. Name and student number, please.
Need QBA 330? Sure, but it’s only offered when I’ve already got BA 400, so it’s back to BA 400 to reschedule THAT in an open time, if possible. Conflict again? Lather, rinse, repeat.
I can remember seeing kids sitting on the curb outside the IN building crying. They needed some classes to graduate on time, but it was impossible to schedule both. Especially if your last name began with S through Z (class years went through in alphabetical order). Registration was always a very stressful time.
I kept telling my daughter how easy she had it, setting her entire schedule while lounging with her laptop. She was not overly impressed.

Oops. That should be IM building. Duh.

Yes that was it
I’d spend hours running around from table to table including stopping to study the blue book of requirements for all majors (to see what the prerequisites were for each class)—after I’d found nothing available for my first half-dozen choices.
I ended up with some really crazy schedules the first two years.

Ahh, Eudora
I remember it well. I’m a year younger than you.

you guys know that Eurora is still around, right?
I think they only stopped prodcution of it like 2 or 3 years ago, but whenever I need to look up stuff I have to enter to setup some e-mail accounts, there’s invariably a “how to configure Eudora” section.
I never used it, personally, but it was definitely the “go to” client on the PSU lab computers at least through the early 2000’s

It was running at least through 2006.

Does the library still use Gopher?
A friend of mine who graduated from Minnesota said it originated from them. Didn’t put it together at the time. Their only gift to the Big Ten I guess.

I'd be afraid
it would turn into Craigslist, with a bunch of deviants posting about bacon & sex.
Oh… wait. Nevermind, we already do that. Press on.

Looks nice...
Never heard of them before. Prices get a little steep for specialty weekends.
I can get a room at the Hampton Inn at the foot of Beaver Stadium for $350/per for a 2 night min. I wouldn’t want to pay more for the luxury of a DUI on the drive out of town.
The Holiday Inn Milesburg is my bargain choice. Its about 10 miles out of SC, has no minimum nights stay requirement and I think it was $150 max last year. It is a bit too country for some though.

BSD Better Business Bureau
It’s true, someone usually puts up a ticket exchange fanpost for particular games. I don’t see why we can’t combine accomodations into those posts as well (in fact, I think those things tend to creep in the ticket exchange posts, anyway). The issue, of course, is that people usually need to make plans weeks ahead of time. So if somebody wants to put up a fanpost that is strictly about suggestions for hotel / campground / sleeping in a refrigerator box on Pugh St., ain’t nobody stoppin’ ya.
Regarding the memorabilia, I’m pretty sure I can speak for the other guys in saying we don’t want this to turn into a Penn State eBay, but if all of those sorts of posts could be contained within one fanpost, perhaps it’s not the worst thing in the world.
My only suggestion is that it be strictly limited to items that you own and are trying to sell or trade to another BSD user without gouging — not some sort of mass-produced thing that you’re planning to turn some huge profit margin with. More like, “I have a Nick Gancitano autographed kicking tee and my wife is making me sell it or throw it away, I’ll take $5 for it.” But I’ll leave it up to Mike to totally veto the whole thing.

But then I remembered that when I was a little kid in the Gancitano years, we were with some other people from Hazleton that knew him, and were supposed to meet him after the game. Never did, though.

Especially when we find out that Fera’s ancestors had their name shortened at Ellis Island from Ferragamalucci.

but Kelly is a pretty ethnic Irish name and was rather successful

Tickets
Does anyone have two tickets they would like to sell at any of the home games this year? I just got on Stubhub and realized how much prices have been jacked up from even a few years ago.

yeah, I stopped using stubhub except when I really can't find anything anywhere else
I usually find better prices on e-bay and craigslist (though obviousy buyer beware)
