Arts Fest 09

Anyone going to be in State College for Arts Fest 09?

I am heading up with the little lady and Mr. / Mrs. TS will also be in town.

We are going to be staying in town to avoid the DUI charges, I will have on my I club hippies shirt or some form of Zug wear.

See ya at the cafe!  TS will be at Chumly's holding court, because that is how he rolls.  Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Yo

I’ll be there from 7/9-7/12. We should definitely have a BSD meet up at the cafe!

Sounds good- somebody plan a day/time and I’m in.

How about like Friday

So everyone who’s coming in should be in by then. Like Friday at 3, Cafe 210? I’ll wear a miniskirt..

Maybe bump it back to 4 or 5? That gives people some commute time, unless they aren’t taking time off, in which case we’d have to do a meet up later that night at like, the Saloon or something.

Miniskirt? Combined with internet hotness? Add in some bacon and I may faint.

Come down to the DC area, the Feds are always looking for lawyers.

www.usajobs.gov

Also, look into some JAG programs you will get a ton of “real” experience in a hurry. My former agency had some JAG’s that made the jump to law enforcement.

All really enjoyed the JAG position.

Seriously

1. You can take two days off.

2. This is the last summer of your life. Don’t fuck it up by stressing too much about the exam. Seriously, it’s not that hard. All it is, is four three hour law school exams in two days. Treat this summer like it’s another semester of law school. Take it seriously, but don’t blow yourself up.

3. Flashcards. You can memorize it for two days.

exactly

I had my PhD comprehensive/preliminary exam (it is taken after the 2nd year, so not quite as big as the thesis defense, but still pretty big because it decides if I stay in the program or not) scheduled for the Tuesday following the Notre Dame game in 2006 (sucky game, but oh well).

I had worked over 90 hours and slept a total of 15-20 hours the 5 before the game. Went to bed on Friday night at about 11, woke up at about 4 am and drove down to South Bend. My friends were supposed to get there early to tailgate, but I wound up being by myself from 6 am until 1pm when they arrived. Managed to finish off most of a case (18 beers) by the time they got there. Lack of sleep + tons of beers made for an interesting experience. I’m really surprised I didn’t fall asleep during the game, or while watching the OSU vs Texas game afterwards in the parking lots (they are REALLY shitty at managing the traffic flow there).

Anyway, slept a decent amount on Sunday, and was good on Monday for some more review, and then Tuesday came and I did fine.

Lesson: you can always take a day or 2 off to have fun. If you don’t know your shit by then, well, then that extra bit of time probably isn’t gonna help all that much.

Go to your happy place...

I totally understand what you mean about that! I took the bar in 2000 and still haven’t gotten my sense of taste or smell back…

On another note, there’s a bunch of us that tailgate together and who are BSDivas who are participating in a bachelorette party on the 10th. We won’t start out until later in the evening as three of us are volunteering at Lift for Life (a completely worthwhile event to check out while you’re in town). If there’s a central location for a group BSD meet, we’re in.

1. BSDivas, multiple
2. Post-secondary education
3. Bachelorette party
4. Volunteering
5. Group gathering, late night

Very nicely done.

where do I sign up?

You guys aren’t gonna do one of those “bachelorette scavenger hunts” are you? (you know, where you gotta bring back a pair of boxers, a condom, etc) I always thought those would work better if the girls weren’t allowed to start off “we’re doing a scavenger hunt for a bachelorette party”. Kinda takes all the fun out of getting certain items ;-)

Keeping it classy

I think we are going to pass on the scavenger hunt, but instead are going to go for the “Buck a Suck” shirt for the bride to be!

Actually, I can’t image a better group of ladies to spend the evening with, so if any of the BSD family want to meet a great group of ladies, just email me.

You guys are awesome

If y’all want another BSDiva to be around. I’ll at least visit the party. I’m the only single one out of my group and they are already talking about “taking it easy”. Hell, its Artsfest and we’re supposed to be reliving college! Go hard or go home!

It's funny 'cause it's true.

Anyway, I’m going to see Wilco in Wilmington on the night of the 10th, but I’ll see if I can talk Mrs. RUTS into heading up there for Saturday.

I’ll also be seeing Wilco then. I’m pretty pumped. They were good at Lollapalooza last year.

It's been about 8-9 years since I've seen them.

Everytime they came to my town over the past few years, I’ve been somewhere else. Hell, they came to Red Rocks in Colorado about a week after I moved back to PA.

We really wanted to see Wilco last summer

and Lolla gave us Radiohead and others on top of that, it was just too good of a show to pass up (minus the final day). Hopefully it’s a long set because I like their older stuff a lot more than Sky Blue Sky and Wilco.

And I have to admit...

…I kind of like the new album. Sounds like a band having fun, and whenever I hear the beginning of one of those slower songs, it inevitably turns into something else and I end up loving it. Weird.

I'll have to give their new

stuff a listen. I have their first 4 and “Mermaid Avenue” that they recorded with Billy Bragg.

Having a kid really puts a dent in a music budget – but at least I now have an excuse to play with legos and superhero action figures again.

You should never ever be ashamed of playing with legos.

I mean they are fantastic…..playing with them and erector sets as a youngin formed me into the engineering-degree-seeking super senior I am today. I have laid down my TMNT action figures a decade ago, but I’ll always remember tying strings to the ceiling and having them slide down towards each other with various weapons attached, gladiator style

But if you do need an excuse, I guess the kid angle is better than any.

Thank you for providing me with an excuse to rant about my childhood.

A Proposal?

My friends and I cannot attend because we have to go to the shore so that our one friend can propose to his girlfriend. For some odd reason, he wants all of us there when it happens (I plan on making a great toast). We already got him to rearrange his proposal once before solely for a weekend of drinking and he told us that he cannot do it again. So, we will be at a golf course in Delaware holding it down, missing Arts Fest for the first time in five years. Damnit, we will have to make the best of it.

He wouldn’t schedule ANYTHING on a PSU event weekend. Blue White weekend, ArtsFest, home games. NO DICE.

Speaking of...

…I caught a certain new wife looking into Northwestern tickets last night on her laptop, which makes the 4th straight year I’ve accidentally stumbled upon my birthday present 2-3 weeks early.

I was going to say, "you mean she didn't splurge and get tOSU tickets for her new husband?"

then I realized NW is an away game, which made a lot more sense as a present than home game tickets vs. NW.

RUTS already has a wealthy sugar daddy who sets him up with choice seats for tOSU & Iowa.

Who said she was inviting you, douchebag?

In that case, help me out and figure out where you want to sit. I recommended she check in with your dad to get NLC seats in the visitor section. She was considering getting straight through NW, with seats next to the PSU section. Either way.

Already have my allotted amount through NLC promised for our road dog crew, but seeing how I doubt the NLC sells their allotment, I’m sure you can just call up and get single game seats.

Going to be a SICK time.

Lift for Life

I just happened to click on the AD website, and realized that the Lift for Life charity event is on the 10th of July during Arts Fest weekend from 2pm to 7pm at Holuba Hall and is open to the public. So those of you sober enough at two in the afternoon on an Arts Fest Friday (or not), and jonesing for some football related event, can go watch and feel physically inadequate as you watch student athletes do a strenuous workout for a good cause (proceeds go to the Kidney Cancer Assoc.)

I’ve never been to Lift for Life, so I don’t know what it’s like. I don’t know if it’s been at the same time as Arts Fest every year, or open to the public before, but I’ve never gone, so I’m probably going to check it out this year. The website is here, with the details. Technically it’s free, but there’s a suggested admission fee since this is a charity event. Sounds like you’ll be able to meet players, and there are some kids events.
