PRYOR FOR HEISMAN!!!
Is it just me, or does anyone else think Terrelle Pryor's mythically legitimate candidacy for the 2009 Heisman Trophy is quite possibly the greatest farce of the upcoming season? Yes, we all get it: he was THE hotshot recruit a few ago, and subsequently landed with the most overhyped team in the country. There's your name-brand recognition, which, as well all know, is roughly 91.7% of the battle (think Graham Harrell's snub last year). But what about, I dunno, the stats? Analysis ensues:
| NAME | CMP | ATT | YDS | CMP% | YDS/A | TD | INT | RAT |
| Terrelle Pryor | 100 | 165 | 1311 | 60.6 | 7.95 | 12 | 4 |
146.5 |
| NAME | CAR | YDS | YPC | LONG | TD |
| Terrelle Pryor | 139 | 631 | 4.5 | 38 | 6 |
Hey, ya know, that's pretty good for a true freshman, and I doubt that (on the surface) anyone will debate this. But what if you dig deeper? Here are TP's stat lines against USC, PSU and UT:
(@ USC) Passing: 7-9, 52 yards, 0 TD 0 INT, Rushing: 11 rushes, 40 yards, 0 TD
(PSU) Passing: 16-25, 226 yards, 0 TD 1 INT, Rushing: 9 rushes, 6 yards, 0 TD 1 (barely) fumble
(Fiesta Bowl, Texas) Passing: 5-13, 56 yards, 0 TD 0 INT, Rushing: 15 rushes, 78 yards, 0 TD
So, um, yeah. There's all that. He didn't lead his team on a single TD drive through ELEVEN quarters (granted he did not start the USC game) against these three teams, and when they did finally score? He was a WR.
It's great that he rolled up some "nice" stats against Troy, Minny, MSU, NW and Illinois. I'm sure those were some super confidence-building wins. But Heisman worthy? Hardly. He wasn't even the best QB on his team against UT, and his coaches were obviously so worried about his skills as a passer that they had to give Boeckman 13 passes.
So forgive me if I'm not in agreement with the MSM on this one. I'm sure he'll be better, but let's be realistic: he has brand new skill players to work with, serious deficiencies as a passer, and competition with a field including Tebow, Bradford and McCoy. Moreover, he'll be facing stiff (read: better) "competition" in his own conference, against guys like Clark, Royster and Benn. They'll have the stats, but he'll have they hype.
But that's the funny thing about hype. The more and more you build yourself up, the farther you have to fall. And from seeing OSU and their fans do this to themselves for the past few years, well, we all know that it's like a train wreck. Tough to watch, but you just can't look away...
So best of luck to young Pryor, and here's to hoping you and the OSU faithful never forget the following:

This is funny, I imagine his voice quivering and tears welling in his eyes.
Pryor: “I really want to be like a great quarterback. People tell me I can’t throw and this and that, and I’m not that good and I’m overrated and all that.”
Herbstreit: “Who?”
Pryor: “A bunch of people. Michigan players e-mail me and stuff.”
Herbstreit: “Come on, are you serious?”
Pryor: "Yeah man.

Very nice!
I like the technicals, too. A hint of 3d, nice little tilt. Very fine work dude.

This is the critical year.
Will this be the first of Pryor’s three Heismans, or will Jimmy Clausen win his 3rd?
Well, it's obvious that there's going to have to be 2 Heismans this year

"and when they did finally score? He was a WR"
I was talking to my OSU friend about that play and he and I thought that OSU would have had much more success with Boeckman as the QB and Pryor as a WR last year. Then he got a little sad and said “I wish TP would have gone with PSU.”
"The sea was angry that day, my friends." G. Costanza
his decision to go to O$U is the best thing that could have happened to us. Now we get wear stuff that says “Too Country” on it!
"If you let the men in you've got to let the women in. I don't want a bunch of women walking around in my locker room when guys take showers". Joe Paterno
"Too country"
has got to be one of the greatest phrases ever to describe PSU. Thank you TP.
"The sea was angry that day, my friends." G. Costanza
Becaause isn't Jeanette, PA a really happening urban center?
"If you let the men in you've got to let the women in. I don't want a bunch of women walking around in my locker room when guys take showers". Joe Paterno
TOTALLY...
off – the – wall thought when I read this NJ Lion; but…
My thought turns the student section this yr for the tO$U game, and rolling with the “Too Country Theme.”
If they could easilly find/buy WHITE jean overalls (or spray paint them white) same with white straw/cowboy hats. The ENTIRE student section dawning this “TOO COUNTRY GARB”…I think this would be H I L A R I O U S; and “hope” the meaning would become known to the broadcasters/sideline reporter.
What say you?

I wish I were a student, but since I am not only too country but too old.....
I am sure one of the kids here will take your advice and get it started! Dawson? Adam?
"If you let the men in you've got to let the women in. I don't want a bunch of women walking around in my locker room when guys take showers". Joe Paterno
It would be extrememly hard to organize that into a meaningful event
but if there’s one group that could pull it off it’s the PSU student section. I would add spray painting straw hats white to that list as well. And if anyone can arrange to sneak in a farm animal, you are a god among men, but lesser than Zug.
I most likely will not be at the OSU game
since my ticket contact will not give those up. But all this “too country” talk the last year has me jonesing to get one of those huge ridiculous styrofoam cowboy hats in blue and white to wear to a game.
BWL, I think the drawback to your plan (which I think would be rad), is that only the 50 BSD regulars would even know what it’s all about. But if Guido thinks a 60s day is the way to go, no reason we can’t have a day celebrating our too country cow college. Ok students, get on this.
"The sea was angry that day, my friends." G. Costanza
Oh, it's far bigger than BSD
I’ll grant that BSD is the first hit when you Google it, but there’s a lot of coverage of the ‘too country’ comment on the interwebs.

I still want to believe that Sean Lee can win it.
If Tebow & McCoy each get slighty less than half of the first place votes & Lee gets every second place vote, he’ll get the trophy.
I think it would be a good campaign to get this to all the voters – “Even though it’s supposed to be the best player, everyone knows it’s really the best offensive player. As a statement, no matter whom you’re voting as the best, why not put Sean Lee in second to show that a defensive player should be included amoung the leading vote getters.”
Then, when the votes are tallied, Lee is the suprise winner cause he gets every second place vote & ends up with more points than anyone else.
Born and raised in the shadow of Mount Nittany
Who knows...
Maybe one year far in the future there will be no real good candidate for the Heisman, and a Penn State linebacker gets the award (by then called the Clark Trophy). I’d rather have a PSU linebacker win it than a PSU QB.

No
They’ll just build upwards like they do with the Stanley Cup. In 100 years, after going 1198-2 vs. Michigan State, the trophy will be about twenty feet tall, but will probably collapse under the weight of it’s enormous amount of suck and poor design.

I enjoy how in the next 100 years
we will win roughly 12 games a year against MSU
I didn’t know anyone wanted to lobby for an even EASIER schedule than we already have, but 12 games a year against MSU would be something…

Aren't we like 8-4 with them since we joined the Big 10?
Did the LG Trophy start right when we joined the BT or did it start later?
I think all time we lead the series 13-12-1. We had only beat them once prior to us joining the BT. Curiously, I think they are the next youngest member of the BT.
yup, took Chicago's place

I believe the adjective was COUNTRIFIED.
My recollection was that Tyrell used the phrase ‘too countrified’ to describe Happy Valley.
I’ve been to Jeanette, and it is truly urban, for the greater North Huntingdon area. They have this one-mile stretch of Route 30 that is lined TOTALLY with fast food restaurants! Every one you can think of. Awsome.
Speaking of awsome, Tyrell was almost as impressive as Austin Scott his senior high-school year, and we hope that his ‘push’ passing technique will carry the Eyes past USC this September.
Then he can come up country………..
