Sports Illustrated's turn in the PSU Bakery

SI has a list of the top non-con games of the year.  To no surprise USC/Ohio State is number 1.  SI writer Stewert Mandel has a side bar for worst non conference schedule in the country.  PSU...was not the worst...we finished at 2.  For Pitt fans, make note that at nubmer 10, they consider you a weak game...

1. Ole Miss: (at Memphis, SE Louisiana, UAB, Northern Arizona)

2. Penn State: (Akron, Syracuse, Temple, Eastern Illinois)

3. Kentucky: (vs. Miami of Ohio, Louisville, La-Monroe, Eastern Kentucky)

4. Northwestern: (Towson, Eastern Michigan, at Syracuse, Miami of Ohio)

5. Texas: (La-Monroe, at Wyoming, UTEP, UCF)

6. Rutgers: (Howard, FIU, at Maryland, Texas Southern, at Army)

7. Duke: (Richmond, at Army, at Kansas, North Carolina Central)

8. Kansas State: (UMass, at La-Lafayette, at UCLA, Tennessee Tech)

9. Florida: (Charleston Southern, Troy, FIU, Florida State)

10. NC State: (South Carolina, Murray State, Gardner-Webb, Pittsburgh)

Side Bar: How is Michigan vs. Notre Dame a good non-con game?  Michigan won 3 games last year with and has a Freshman QB and Notre Dame...hasn't had the star ratings working in their favor.

Interesting...

4 potential top 10 teams on this list….PSU, Ole Miss, Texas, Florida.

WE ARE.......PENN STATE!

Yeah

And not just potential top 10….Florida is consensus #1….Only reason why people wont bust on their OOC is because of OMG ESS EEE CEE. Then again, it might be somewhat of a legit excuse.

Wow

And I thought Texas’s was bad…Ole Miss is a joke.

DO YOU HAVE PRIDE, DANNY?

Texas's is worse than Kentucky's, IMO

But OMG BIG 12 SKILLZ so it doesn’t matter

In all fairness...

Duke is probably only favored to beat NC Central out of their entire OOC schedule…
So their OOC schedule will probably be a real challenge.
LOLZ

But seriously, how bad would it feel to have the supposed 7th worst OOC schedule in the nation, and yet still not even make it out undefeated.. hahahaha

Interesting point QBsneak12

Is it worse to have one of the worst OOC schedules, or be a “premier” team on a ranked OOC schedule? Actually, NC State has SEC South Carolina and Pitt (granted not elite, but rumored to have a shot at the Big East this year). Doesn’t that make it a pretty good non-con schedule?

I’m not sure N.C. State should be there either. I guess it’s just because of the two FCS teams.

I agree,

we will play Pitt again in my lifetime.

I really think Pitt is only a “decent” QB (and a good head football coach) away from being pretty strong. The Stache has recruited some talent, however, he may be the worst game day (see Navy 2 years ago) coach in the country.

2 Home Games for One Road Game?

Until Pitt concedes that, I don’t think Curley will sign them up, regardless of JoePa being around or not. He certainly has shown he chooses cash over schedule credibility.

Why sign up Pitt for a home-and-away when you can get national and more notable programs with the same agreement?

Also,

How about Syracuse scheduling three Big 10 teams in a year (though two of them are traditionally bottom dwellers)? Are they trying to mimic ND? Maybe they are vying to become that coveted 12th member? On the other hand, maybe they’re looking to transfer to the MAC.

why the hell

is ND-Michigan #6?

I don't care anymore

I just want to watch a game dadgumit, even if it is Akron.

Sep 5 is stilltoo far away for me.

It's funny

I get so excited and worked up for kickoff, but then on the next play I start to settle down and think, “Shoot, now I have to watch them play Akron.” It’s a bit deflating, but about five minutes later I get caught up in the game and get frustrated by PSU’s trademark slow start in the first quarter.

Interesting fact

Michigan State has never played an FCS foe. They break that string in ’09 when Montana State visits East Lansing. I guess MSU has to win that game.
