The Lavar Arrington Show - Washington D.C.
For all you DC Metro area Nitts:
If you haven't heard, Lavar has his own radio show here in D.C. It's on 106.7FM...formerly WJFK. His slot is from 2-6pm, Monday through Fridays. The show has only been on a couple days and he's already mentioned Navarro Bowman and how he is going to be one of the next great PSU linebackers.
As a Nitt fan and long time suffering 'Skins fan, this is great. If any other Redskins fans are reading this, you know how much Lavar is either loved or hated here in VA/DC/MD. Some people are going to like how he talks about the Redskins management and some are going to loathe him for it. Bottom line is, the Redskins suck because their front office sucks and I'm hoping L.A. can bring that to light.
I want to ask all of the Steelers, Eagles and Other fans what they thought the problem was, with Lavar's career. Was it the 5 different defensive coordinators he had in his 6 years in DC? Was it the defensive scheme? Was it him?
I'd like to know what you all think.

I never understood all the flack he got
he was good, and they kept changing the schemes up on him, and then he got injured. He still played great, especially considering.
He wouldn't listen to anybody
and never bothered to learn how to play linebacker. He was so physically gifted, he didn’t half to.

The reason the Skins struggle....
No PSU alum at LB.

Um, how about Matt Millen?

Nice
Will have to find a way to tune in for some of that. Certain to be entertaining to this DC Nitt.

Are you suggesting that the suckitude of the Redskins front office isn’t already common knowledge.

i agree with that statement....
but, there’s not much in-depth talk about it. my friends and i talk about it all the time; how much we wish snyder’s helicopter would land on cerrato’s limo. but its hardly talked about with the media. which is why im hoping L.A. will lay it down. he’s the only one who has the knowledge AND platform to shed light on what’s goin’ on.

Nice to know I am not the only Skins fan suffering. I agree 100% on the front office. Dan Snyder killed the Redskins. Doucheabag
LaVar never found a way to fit in, and the coaches never found a way to fit him in. But he was still a fan favorite, on the sidelines revving up the crowd,
Looks like the station streams live. I’ll have to catch this.

Disagree
I love Aikman as a broadcaster. He always gets really quiet when the Cowboys make a bad play and/or are losing the game.

And
It makes me supremely happy to have Aikman as the broadcaster whenever the Eagles are playing the Cowboys. You can hear the pain in his voice, especially last years 44-6 debacle.

I'll say the unspeakable, Stately
LaVar’s tumultuous Redskins career was largely the fault of Joe Gibbs. It pains me to say this as a die hard Redskins fan, but he made a lot of moves I seriously questioned. I think he botched the QB situation. I think he placated to Dan Snyder when he shouldn’t have. I think he let Gregg Williams and Al Saunders (especially Al’s magum opus playbook that largely confused the players rather than let them flourish) have too much say in their operations. And yeah, I think he choked LaVar, the spiritual leader of the team, on a tight leash; a player who can read the opponent’s plays and players better than the coaches themselves.
Joe Gibbs: I love the guy, but I love the other Joe better.
yea...
it sucks to hear that, b/c I love Joe Gibbs too. But i remember L.A. talking about how Gibbs abandoned the team, etc., etc. so your perspective doesn’t surprise me. Plus, I think you hit the nail on the head with your other observations.
Oh, and he definitely botched the QB situation……$40mil for Brunell?
Do you think the fact that Joe Gibbs was still involved in NASCAR, made him delegate more responsibility to his assistants?

Before he “retired” I think Joe Gibbs was closer to a breakdown than anyone knew. Sleeping in the office (for like what, 3 hours a night), the migranes (I remember him talking about that in the interview). I loved him but have to agree with you
Dan Syder is a little baby. There is nothing worse than superfan with the means to buy his favorite team. He has out Jerry Jones Jerry Jones. Through his attempt to buy a Superbowl through a rotation of over-rated players and a new coach(s) every 2 years there has been no stability.
"If you let the men in you've got to let the women in. I don't want a bunch of women walking around in my locker room when guys take showers". Joe Paterno
Maybe his success in the NFL and NASCAR made him more ambivalent to the team?
I remember a lot of sportscasters asking how Gibbs would adapt to free agency. Don’t know if that has anything to do with it, but maybe.
You might laugh at this, but I thought Patrick Ramsey was really developing well. For some reason, the rug was pulled from under him and we got Brunell and Campbell, which didn’t inspire trust with anyone on the team nor the fans.
Campbell is a nice guy and all but doesn’t he kinda remind you of Morelli? A big arm with a simple mind?
Personally, I’m all for wiping the slate clean with Gibbs players. And I seriously hope Colt Brennan gets a shot.

Daaammmmnn
You were really on point today, but thanks for the Campbell/QB14 comparison, for I can quibble on that.
But with you on Patrick Ramsey. No laughter here.

I'm with ya, Rosewater
on the Gibbs thing. He was the HNIC, but I’ll dig just a bit deeper. The absolute biggest asshole to LaVar during his Skins tenure was the current DCo: Greg Blache, the linebackers coach. He was the frontline choker of Lavar’s playmaking. Had an archaic agenda that was bigger than even Lavar’s ego: ’I’ma tame this boy, teach him how to conform.’ Just unabashed adherence to black on black crime.
That dude put the douchea in olde-schoula.

PITT PUNTER KILLER
Lavar never really learned to play football, but I love the guy for ‘blocking’ the Pitt Punter by slapping him down every time he tried to stand up, 50 yards away from the ball.
Great Stuff. He had to be from Pittsburgh to pull that play off, and understand how important it would be in his PSU reputation as a memorable player.

Oh...cut me a break
He shoved punters? So what, the fact that the Pitt punter shoved him back was about 10 times cooler. Also, John Cooper, yes John Cooper, totally faced Joe Paterno the first time he had N’ail Diggs do the same thing to Penn State’s punter. Paterno stopped pulling that bush-league shit the next series and he never did it again.

two problems with lavar's career
1) He got injured a lot and didn’t end up having a full nfl career.
and
2) He never was a fundamentally sound football player, and it came back to bite him in the pros when he wasn’t head and shoulders above everyone else athletically.
I wouldn't trust old rooster me neither.
the show..
are the podcasts free?, I have to admit I didn’t look into it much yet. Not a big fan of the time slot though. 2-6? wish it was more like 3-7 or something.

thanks Stately NOVA-
How is the show? I heard probably 20 minutes at most a day I left work earlier and all I heard was Lavar being obnoxiously loud and randomly yelling… Hope I just caught it at a bad time..

Radio seems easy, but it harder than it seems.
LaVar and Dukes were a little rough the first week, but there have been some moments when the show has started to hum. Chemistry takes a while. I predict good things.
Plus there’s been a lot of PSU love on air, which is relatively rare in this market.
yea...
it was kind of meh when i listened to a couple casts. he did throw a few PSU references. bowman. maybin. not getting along with golden domers.
it’s early, but hopefully it comes around. would hate to see this bomb. lavar haters will come out.

Simple...
The Redskins have more players from Georgetown than from Penn State. (Georgetown has had exactly one player make the pros since 1950.) "Nuff said.
