Most loved / hated PSU players of all time?
I have been thinking about this for a long time, what makes people love/hate current or former players.
Here is my list of most loved/hated player that wore the blue/white.
Loved:
-- Lavar, nuff said
-- #25, Mr. Harris
-- Kerry Collins, my old Irish mother still talks about KC and she know nothing about football.
-- #31, both versions.
-- Mills
-- John Bruno
Hate is a strong word, lets go w/ "dislike" or "disappointing" of all time.
-- QB 14, so much potential wasted.
-- Austin Scoot, see above.
-- LJ JR, recent issues not helping and was a crybaby at PSU.
-- Gino Capone, always seemed to fall on top of the pile. He was the early version of the tOSU middle LB.
-- Rashard Casey, lead us into the "dark years".
-- Iowa and Curley.
**late add**
Derrick Fox

This is ridiculous
But during the 2005 NW game, Harrell made a bone-headed late hit penalty that helped NW score and take the lead. After letting loose some profanities, I vowed I would never forgive him win or lose, and I still haven’t.
Stupid of me? Yes, very.
And I think it’s safe to say LaVon Chisley deserves a hate list of his own.
LaVon Chisley
Is such a f-ing asshole and a douche in a category of his own.

My choices..
Most loved…
Paul Poz, MRob, DWill, Sean Lee…why do I love these guys…they are true role models….work their ass off….and overcome obstacles…they are leaders and great men first and great football players second.
Most hated…and hate is not a strong enough word…
- QB from 2006-2007…always ran and hid when there was a problem or a play needed to be made…opposite of the four guys above.

People don't like Rashard Casey?

I had no idea either
I thought he was fine, and I don’t see how he had anything to do with the “dark years” since recruiting was still pretty solid, although the class didn’t exactly pan out. Nevertheless, 1999 was my senior year, and I remember the huge coup it was to get the two Zacks (Mills and especially, Wasserman, who I remember was one of the best regarded QBs in the country that year).

I'd buy him a drink at a bar.
Was he boneheaded and did he never learn to tuck the ball as he ran? Yes. Did I hate him? No. The only thing you can do to get on the hate list is
A) attack another teammate with a knife
B) hate/murder PSU fans
C) hate JoePa
D) hire an agent just before a bowl game
E) hate something so endearing, positive, and wonderful about Happy Valley that it proves you are self-centered and have no idea what you are talking about. I can’t think of an example of this, but it’s the reason why everyone in Kansas City hates Elvis Grbac.

LOVED:
Michael Robinson — for the hit on that safety against Minnesota, for taking a hit himself to complete a comeback against Northwestern, and for being the only guy Zack Mills could reliably throw to.
POZ — for being the only guy that I can ever remember in ANY football game that I was dead certain would make the tackle that needed to be made.
Kerry Collins, Bobby Engram, & Ki-Jana Carter — for giving me the best freshman year I could have hoped for.
O.J. McDuffie — because of his unmitigated awesomeness.
DISLIKE:
QB14 — for never EVER checking down to a second or third receiving option.
Chris Bell — for trying to STAB someone. Not a quality I like for in a teammate.
Austin Scott — for acting (to me) like he would be given the starting RB role without even trying, and that he didn’t need to obey teams rules, curfew, etc… or even work on holding onto the damn ball.
When can I go home?
And, upon further review, I also loved John Bruno...

I love that whole '87 team
They were before my time, but my first memories of Penn State football are the stories my parents told about that team.
Mom: Miami came into the game and were being very disrespectful. They were dressed unprofessionally (in army fatigues) and were mocking the Penn State players for being to big, and to slow, and for wearing boring uniforms and ugly black shoes.
Dad: Then Giftopoulos, who was the biggest, the slowest and, if memory serves, had the blackest shoes of anyone on the roster intercepted that pass. He started running, and man was he ever slow but it didn’t matter at that point, he had just won the game.
So yeah, I love Giftopoulos, Dozier, Bruno, the whole gang.

I love Robinson's hit on the safety, I just wish it didn't end that guy's career.
As for Morelli, he’s definitely on my “dislike” (though I really don’t dislike a player unless he’s really a big doucheabag or worse), I not only hated that he never checked down to his second or third receiver, but he never friggen took his eyes off of his primary. I’m surprised he completed as many passes as he did, when the defense knew every play where the ball was going. I also wish he knew the words “throw the ball away”. How many needless 10 yard sacks did he take?

Mills
Am I the only one who hated Mills during the last 2 years of his career? He lost his heart. I remember one game in particular (I think it was that 6-4 Iowa debacle) where it was like 3rd & 4, he scrambled, and slid 1 yard short of the 1st down marker when lowering his shoulder would’ve gotten the 1st. He got gun-shy. I know he was banged up and playing with a crappy O, but come on…..
Maybe because he DIDN'T HAVE ANY SHOULDERS LEFT at that point in his career
Saying Mills had no heart is just plain wrong. That guy was ALL heart.

In "What it means to be a Nittany Lion"...
Mill’s states that everybody thought he had a shoulder injury. He says he had absolutely no soulder issues, it was actually severe elbow tendinitis that plagued him.
Mills biggest problem was no one could catch the ball. Our best returning receiver, Mo Humphrey, decidedhe had better things to do. I don’t even think Mills had a ham sandwich to throw to those last two years.
He always had the heart, he just didn’t have the talent level to be the entire offense.
One man doing the work of 100's for the good of 1000's
Humphrey's better thing to do

That’s enough right there. How anyone can second guess a quarterback with, a) no shoulders, b) no receivers, c) no running game, or d) bad pass protection is beyond me.
What Buggy said.
DO YOU HAVE PRIDE, DANNY?
by ReadingRambler on Jul 23, 2009 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions
I'd say
bad pass protection was an understatement. It was a running gag between my friends and I to count the number of times linemen just seemed to forget to block whoever was across from them. You’re not going to do much when you have a half a second before the pocket collapses.
And yes, Mills makes my favorites list too.
Mills is actually one of my favorite players all time
because he friggen tried his best. I’ll never hate anyone for trying their best.
I don’t specifically remember him sliding 1 yard shy, but perhaps he just misjudged. It is easy enough to say, “he should have lowered his shoulder and gotten the extra yard” but we don’t know the exact circumstances (especially since we apparently don’t even know the exact play).
And as Buggy says, it is hard to lower a shoulder you don’t even have anymore.
And then, as a senior QB, having to play tandem with another QB who arguably at the time was no better…that’s also gotta be tough to take, but I don’t recall any bitching from him about having to split duties, or having to learn to play WR. And then when he DID line up at WR, he actually blocked and ran routes, unlike certain other QBs we tried that with.

Please
You can’t give one good reason why you hate Devlin besides that he left the program. The kid decommitted from Miami to come and play for us, even though we had OMG FIVE STAR QB14 ahead of him. He comes from a PSU family, and always loved us. It has been a criticism of his wavering before leaving, before Joe made the decision for him, but I attribute that wavering to the internal struggle between getting some starting time and leaving a place he loves.
Yeah really
That’s childish to hate someone who by all accounts is a good guy because he wanted to start somewhere for two seasons.
yup
I dislike(d) the decision, but don’t dislike the guy. Besides, his transfer was actually a blessing in disguise for the future of this program (though could conceivable hurt us this season).

He has one season left to make the most of his talent. He wasted three years, but I’m willing to forgive and forget, despite tremendous stupidity.
I agree to wait until after this year, but
I remember watching Quarless his freshman year and thinking “Jesus, I hope we can keep this kid for 4 years”
The guys that make my bottom are guys that waste their talent (Like Quarless so far) on stupid actions. Guys that tried and never panned out are alright, if they just sucked on the field I don’t hate them. ISome guys just do not have it. But if you do have it and prefer drunk driving over being successful, you are not a very good person.

With all the uncertainty surrounding the receiving corps, he has a chance to make the “Love” list after this year.
Although I’m not entirely sure he has underachieved exclusively due to off field concerns. He has been boneheaded on the field too. False starts, whiffed blocks, dropped passes. If he is totally clean off the field, and just can’t get it done on, I’m not going to hate him.

Hard to pick
any small number of players loved, but the top of that list would include:
M-Rob: Still convinced if we had one more play in that 2005 Michigan game that he would have found a way to win.
Poz,Bobby,Gerald Cadogan, Josh Gaines: Cried when he got the offer to play for PSU. I would rather have a whole team of guys like Gaines than all the five-star recruits looking to make it to the pros.
Redeem team (moved from hated to loved)
Mills: Couldn’t help but be happy for the guy on his senior day against MSU.
Calvin Lowry: The punt returns. But, it wasn’t his fault they kept putting him in. Also, he sucked, right? But for some reason no one was good enough to take his spot, even briefly in the NFL.
Jay Pa: Blamed him for all of the struggles in the dark years. Too bad he’s a great guy, who is proving that he’s got it.
Dan Connor: (Maybe) Some of us had a feeling at the end of 2004 that big things were going to happen. When Connor got in trouble, I was furious. Didn’t he know what was riding on that season? I wanted him gone. Still can’t forgive him fully.
Dislike:
Kranchick: Selfishly wanted to be a WR and refused to learn to block. A million bucks says real TE Mike Lukac catches the first pass at the end of that Ohio State game in 2003. We move the ball, Kimble doesn’t have to make it from 60+. Just saying.
Shino Prater: Don’t even know who he is, but my god was my dad pissed at him through a good deal of my childhood.
QB14: Tee only D-1 college football player that I would replace with MYSELF on Fourth-and-3 and game. The anti-MROB
Brendan Paretta: Played because he was… Italian? Tried to lose countless games on his own. Worse blocker than Golden, bad at everything, handed the ball to a Northwestern DB once and instructed him to score a TD.

Kranchick
Kranchick made things happen when he touched the ball. Unfortunately he was on the team before MRob learned accuracy and while Mills was incapable of throwing a ball more than 10 yards downfield. Kranchick was an underutilized beast. I remember many afternoons seeing him sit on the sidelines while a pathetic Penn State offense stumbled overthemselves all day.

Are you 7 feet tall?
I wouldn’t have the balls to do that to him, however douchy he was, for fear of being mutilated.
Shawn Mayer
guy was all heart, and I believe he broke his neck his junior season and came back to play again for his senior year. Awesome. My most loved is definitely M-Rob, Mills, Posluszny, and Aaron Harris. Also loved Michael Haynes and Tamba Hali. Way too many to list them all out, though.
As everyone has stated, it is a tough call, for me it is:
M-Rob. The way the kid stuck through it and succeeded is amazing. It took until his 4th game of his senior year but man, he was something. Apparently he is a captain with the 49ers, not surprised.
Bruce Branch. I remember very little about him, but My first PSU jersey was #1 and he had it at the time.
Also, POZ. One of the few guys I actually got to meet, was incredibly nice. He was an OK tackler too.
Lenny Moore. He played too long ago for any of us to enjoy him, but everything I read about him makes me wish I could have seen him play. One of the most underrated(In terms of being talked about) NFL players ever. Of course, also he is the namessake of BSD resident KOT. Guy was lightning in cleats.
Adam Taliaferro & Cappy(For the inspiration), Chafie Fields(for the catch), Pete Giftopolous(For the Pick), D-Will(For bring his stars to PSU) and many others all hold special places in my memory.
I harbor no ill-will towards any players unless they caused trouble and shame off the field. If they were simply bad players, but not bad people I can at least respect them because It is incredibly difficult to do what they do.

Can I pick DC for Loved?
Do I have to wait half a year for that? Even if we don’t live up to expectations this year, the guy has his heart in the right place and I can’t imagine a situation occurring that will make me like him less.
Gotta also go with DWill, Poz, Connor, Lee (also not going to wait half a year for that), Norwood, and Shipley(he was a great center AND leader). And retro-actively since I didn’t get into sports until I came to PSU, M-Rob, Mills, Lavar, Collins (bonus points for him since I’m a Titan’s fan), Carter, Engram, Conlan, and Ham. Interesting to me to note that that is 4 QB’s, 6 Linebackers (no surprise there), 3WR’s, 1RB (a little surprise there) and 1 Center.
On the fence for loved: Royster, who’ll probably get there soon, Bruno who’d be there if not for the stupid racial comment he made before the awesome Japanese comment, Maybin who would be there had he stayed at PSU, I don’t hold it against him that he left, but it would have shown me a love for PSU had he turned down being a possible top 10 draft pick for us, Bowman for obvious reasons, and ReadingRambler who’d be there if he played for PSU’s football team.
Dislike: QB14 (If he had put a little more effort into bettering himself he wouldn’t be here) Chris Bell, and Phil Taylor (he tackled me during that 1000+ person snowball fight at East Halls in 2006, though that’s not what I dislike him),
DC is a great choice
If for nothing else, the fact that he busted his ass working to get where he is now, after not being recruited by anyone, and also having to overcome academic issues before we could take him. From a two star, lightly recruited QB, to a first team all-Big Ten QB is an amazing story and an incredible accomplishment. Regardless of this year, he will always be one of my favorites for the fun (and the sadness) that was last year. And his incredible attitude, determination and heart.
Also, gotta give a +1 to JayPa for seeing something in him.
Plus (via scout) if you need any proof of how hard he’s worked, he went from this:

Re: After Inner searching
On Eddie Drummond, I remember you could drop him on a cactus plant and the plant would fall off, but I don’t ever remember him giving up. Frustrating yes. Made a good return guy for the (semi-)Pro Lions.

Tony Hunt was the man. Good, hard nosed football player. Eddie Drummond (in his freshman season) was supposed to be like the next Bobby Engram. I remember him playing as a Freshman and that being a huge huge deal. Sometime between his Freshman and Sophomore seasons he developed a horrible case of Dropulitis and could never catch anything at all for the next 3 years. In response, Joe put him in the three-headed monster RB rotation of LJ and Omar Easy. Or at least, that’s how I remember it.

McCoo
Wasn’t McCoo the third part of the three-RB rotation?
drummond
Was part of a many RB rotation, forget which one. They would line him up WAYYYYY in the backfield to let him get a running start, then hand him the ball since he couldn’t catch it.

i'm not sure
whether most people are referring to players they love/hate as a psu representative based on what they have seen on the field and tv, or that they knew the player personally enough to make a judgement.
as for the former:
liked-mrob, norwood (yoshi), tamba hali, lavar, dwill, shipley, mills, conlan,
disliked-
gino capone, quarless, bell
as for the latter, i just can’t bring myself to really hate any player. even morelli. i always just feel sorry for them that they could not succeed in spite of themselves when given the oppurtunity of a lifetime.
that, and i never really had a bad experience with any of them outside of a few individuals who always tried to break down the door of sharkies to get beer at 230.
I looked at Ohrnberger in the fourth quarter and he looked back at me. And we said, 'We're not losing this game"
What about..
Scooter Mcoo- I was at the Northwestern game where he fumbled ran picked it up and took it in. I think he was underrated
Mills- All heart and deserved better then he got
MROB- The guy never quit and just carried the team when it needed with. Him and POZ were directly responsible for ’05. Which leads me to…
POZ- Great player and great human being
DWILL- He made the difference he hoped to
Hated
QB14-nuff said
LJ JR- Still needs to take those diapers off
Alan Zemaitis – Just a jerk in real life
Austin Scott- Punk kid attitude not willing to work
Matt Seneca- Just plain horrible
McCoo's play was a great highlight
but a horrible play. Shouldn’t have fumbled it in the first place, and it was luck, not skill, that the ball bounced up basically back into his hands mid-stride so he could continue running for the TD.
Hated seems a bit strong, though, don’t you think
Zemaitis: never knew anything about him being a jerk in real life. I liked him, though.
Seneca? you actually hated him? Yeah, he sucked, but he barely played, either. And I don’t necessarily think he sucked for lack of trying.

KiJana's was better

McCoo
They play itself was horrible but it was a great highlight and I always liked the guy. I had some friends who partied with Zemaitis and said he would always throw out how he played football and he was going to the league and how he would stomp any guy at the party if they got between him and his “dime pieces.”
I just never liked Seneca, it was a wasted year and we should have been better if not for QB.
AZ is very much a jerk.

In many cases, I wish I never met some of them. It made it even harder to root for PSU in the Dark Years because there were some true douchebag tools on the team during that time.

Loved:
John Shaffer – I met him at the Tavern about a ten days before the Fiesta Bowl. He was with his whole family, I suppose they were out for his graduation dinner. His Mother saw that I recognized John, but I was afraid to go over and talk to him. She waived me over, and I got to spend about ten minutes talking to him. He asked me who I thought would win (duh) and he gave me the coolest autograph ever, which I still have. I was ten years old, and I’ll remember that for my entire life.
Hated:
The 1999 Penn State Defense: Overrated. Gutless. Punks. Never in my memory has a defense ever believed it’s own hype so completely. Which is bad enough, but the way they folded at the end of that season was terrible. The last Penn State team to lose on senior day, the only Penn State team to lose on senior day in the last 20 years….Yeah, it was those guys. We’ve had 3-9 teams that I am more proud of than that 10 win team. Good riddence.

Loved: Zack Mills in 2001. Freshman with a noodle for an arm, not highly touted, behind a suspect line and a mediocre set of receivers, with a team that had lost 11 of its last 16 games, goes into a game against Northwestern down 35-31 with 1:39 left to play. Matt Senneca is out, Sean McHugh has been lost for the season. The offense was rattled. The entire nation is rattled in the weeks after 9/11. He walks over to the huddle calmly and says, “Hey what’s up, you guys ready to go score?”
The offense is completely reenergized. He connects with Eric McCoo to win on the road in Evanston 38-31.
Next week, Mills comes off the bench after the second ineffective series by Matt Senneca against Ohio State. The team is stalls a bit in the first half. Ohio State opens the second half with a 65 yard run for a 20-9 lead. On the next possession Mills finds an open Eddie Drummond and gets it in his hands, only to see him tip the ball in the air into the arms of a Buckeye cornerback to make it 27-9. JoePa and the offense coaches decide to throw the Buckeye defense off-guard by instituting a new offensive scheme-shotgun option mixed in with some wing-T offense. It works. Mills begins to hit paydirt: running 69 yards for a TD score, then connecting with Tony Johnson and Eric McCoo to win the game 29-27. JoePa passes Bear Bryant for most I-A wins all time.
Later in the season, Mills has an ankle injury and comes off the bench for Matt Senneca after yet another ineffective set of opening series (see a trend?). PSU is down 17 points to Michigan State. Mills passes for 240 yards and 3 TDs in less than three quarters to defeat Michigan State 42-37 in East Lansing and turns a dead-in-the-water 0-4 PSU squad into a 5-5 squad.
It was a tough season, a time of transition for me in my final year in school, a time of frustration after watching arguably the worst stretch of PSU football in its history, and a time when we were all trying to place the value of sports and leisure into this new and uncertain era of terrorism and national security. Mills unflappable poise, endless ability to get out of trouble, and that touch of freshman naivete was a welcome relief from the troubles of the world.
Maybe his play didn’t keep up over time, but how could they? When the pieces around you regress, you can only be knocked down for so long before it starts to affect you. Still, 2001 was an amazing season. He may not be my pick for the best player, but he is my favorite player to don a PSU uniform.

Michael Robinson – Heart, leadership, guts. Clearly the MVP of 2005 for PSU.

Tony Hunt – For making RB33 look like a punk, and for his demolition of Tennessee in 2006.
Derrick Williams – He could have gone anywhere else. He chose Penn State, to help resurrect the team. He did.
Deon Butler – We are legends!
Jordan Norwood – Probably the best “possession” receiver in PSU history.
Tamba Hali – There was a series against Wisconsin in ’05 that was just incredible… he singlehandedly made Wisconsin go 3-and-out.
Scott Paxson – Did anyone have a more under-the-radar season than him in 2005? He recovered the fumble against Ohio State and should have had two safeties in the Orange Bowl)
Matt Rice – An animal who kept the team focused, one game at a time.
Also loved:
Zack Mills – Got a bum rap playing with a bum shoulder and a bum group of WRs in ‘03 and ’04.
LJ Jr. – Don’t care what people think about his “attitude”. Without that attitude, LJ doesn’t go for 2K, and our 2002 season isn’t nearly as good.

Man did I dislike Derek Fox. Almost as much as Clint Holes (in the Defense), the only noticable ommision from an awesome list.
Likes: Ray Roundtree – my friend and I made up a song about him. We were young. Trey Bauer. Don’t think Tamba Hali was mentioned enough. And Flyod Wedderburn lived on my floor freshman summer. He overhung all four sides of the ill-suited bed that was in his dorm room.

Never really like K. Collins (cuz I met him as a student), Kevin Thompson, LJ Jr. or QB14 (obviously).
Only one more season to enjoy the Wannstache ...
Could make a longer list...
but DWill and Justin King will always hold a special part in my heart because they were willing to stand up for PSU when not many were. Anything good that has happened in recent years started when they committed to a struggling program.
Hard for me to “hate” a kid for playing poorly on the field. I know you guys don’t care for QB14, but there are a lot of guys I dislike more than him. He had all the hype in the world, but just couldn’t play the college game. Not sure that’s worth hating him over.

The reason we don't like QB14 is...
….he ran and hid all the time, especially after losses. He was never a leader. Never showed any heart. Oh and he was horrible (relative to the hype).
WE ARE.......PENN STATE!
I think what did it for me...
on top of everything you mention…
is he let the other team’s fans get into his head and he embarrassed his team by lashing out at the crowd.
One man doing the work of 100's for the good of 1000's
Fair enough
He definitely wasn’t as mature as I’d have liked to see either.
I just think a lot of the fans hated him because he sucked and then looked for any excuse to drag him down after he failed to be a great QB.
I’m not trying to be a big supporter of QB14 or anything, just find it hard to get real mad at kids when they they just aren’t smart or good enough to play at a high level…especially when they are 4 or 5 “star” recruits.

I think the thing is
he definitely didn’t “suck” that bad. I just saw the movie “The Replacements” again the other day. The one with Keanu Reeves playing the QB Shane Falco, from OSU, who was supposedly really good, but just crumbled in pressure situations, and it reminded me a lot about Morelli. He could be the best QB ever against teams like Akron and Indiana, but put him in a situation where he can either win or lose the game, and…well…there weren’t too many wins.

I mentioned two names above...
Calvin Lowry and Robbie Gould. I met very few players personally – these two may have been very good guys on a personal level.
Maybe Lowry shouldn’t have been a return man – maybe he was put in a situation above his head becasue option B would have been much worse. I’ll retract him from my bad list.
The few guys I did spend some time around, Rudy Glocker, Tyoka Jackson, and Shelly Hammonds were great guys.
One man doing the work of 100's for the good of 1000's
for love
I’m thinking of guys that you missed so much when PSU took the field next season with out them. Guys that you just loved watching. Obviously Lavar is an easy answer, but my two are M-Rob and Tony Hunt. I’ve never seen anything like Robinson’s 2005 season, he just willed that team to win at every moment. There was the 4th and 7ish sweep to keep last drive alive in Michigan, which would have been so memorable if we had one that game. I remember thinking to myself, what do you do here? M-Rob sweep, but they’re going to know it’s coming… It doesn’t matter, he still gets it. Or just knowing the game was over against Minn. after the third successful option sweep to start the game. From what people have said, it’s the exact same way Texas fans think Vince Young.
Tony Hunt, I know he’s not the best RB we’ll ever have, he had no top end speed, but he was so much fun to watch. When he made contact he would just keep driving and spinning and not go down. It was like some one was mashing the buttons in Madden. Just killing the clock off-left-tackle like 10 times in a row, and the other team just completely unable to stop him. The only Penn State trash talk I’ve ever heard that I liked after the Outback Bowl. I just loved watching him run.
Mills isn’t a love, but cmon, hate??? Look who he was throwing to. Can you imagine what he would have done if he had the same receivers as #14?
Ok, you've waited long enough for it:

Matt Millen & Bruce Clark: tell me these dudes don’t scream Classic PSU:

Lenny Moore, Franco Harris, Lydell Mitchell (love that name; if we get lucky enough to have our own baby, think I can get away with naming him Lydell? What if it’s a girl?), Steve Smear (duh!) and Mike Reid (see sig)

Aaron Harrs: good call STL
DWheels: first one into the Revival Tent
Puz:

Those Whose Play Was Liked Not a Whole Lot by Me
Derek Fox is easily at the top of this list—that dude just killed me game after game with boneheadedness. Why couldn’t he have gone to OSU and his brother have come here?
Echoed on Shamar Finney & Geno Capone. I know it’s fresh, but Josh Hull’s game fits right in there. Hard workers all of em. Just too much play that stands out at LBU for the wrong reasons.

Can't believe we haven't seen this name yet... Blair Thomas
Love me some Blair Thomas because he was the first name I ever remember hearing when I was a kid and went to my first Penn State game. It was freezing out and I was like 8 years old. I spent the entire game with my head under a blanket to keep me warm, and all I remember is hearing the name Blair Thomas over and over.
Because he is my first ever memory of Penn State, Blair Thomas makes my most-loved list.
I bleed Blue and White.
Very. Good. Call.
1989 Alabama. Best performance in a Penn State loss ever. He willed the team to victory, but Alabama blocked the field goal.
Maybe the best performance by a Penn State player ever.

Blair Thomas and Ron Jaworski
are involved with this program called Football University (or something like that). From what I could tell, it basically seemed like a recruiting “company” that profiles football players in middle school and younger. Anyway, they did a profile of my nephew and Blair was an absolute trainwreck. Kept pronouncing everyone’s names wrong (and differently every time), and basically reminded me of Boom goes the dynamite.

I've been really hesitant to post my own since it's really tough to narrow down my favs
I think everyone’s covered the bad, so I’ll just go with my favorite guys (I can’t really in fairness comment on the classic guys because I wasn’t alive to see them, so I’ll stick to the modern guys).
Poz- incredible leader, the reason I insisted on getting a 31 jersey for white out games (It’s also a bonus that Conlan wore the same #)
DWill- For showing so much faith in a down program. It seems un-Penn State like to single out a single player for turning the tides, but he (and I guess King as well) was the beacon of hope that brought about the end of the Dark Years, and we’ll forever be in his debt for his selflessness (a great PSU quality) in being the #1 HS recruit and picking a down program.
Tony Hunt- An absolute beast. Last drive of the Outback Bowl (also my first bowl game!) was quintessential Tony, and his post-game interview reflected what it means to be a quintessential PSU player.
MRob- A really friendly guy when I met him at the Paterno Luncheon before last year’s BW game, and for leading the team out of the worst period in our team’s history.
DC17- His story isn’t over yet, but simply for the fact that he had to overcome so many obstacles (grades, growing up in a rough town, and getting noticed by big programs) to get where he is now. He busted his ass both in weight training, and his development as a player, and also a leader on the team. And in his first season as a starter, all that work he put in to achieve his success on the field was honored by being named the first team all B10 QB last year. His attitude, dedication, and heart is what every PSU player should strive to achieve.
