Favorite players of 80s, 90s, 2000s
Everyone seemed to like the most loved/hated player list, thought this could be interesting.
List you top 3 players of the decade, I am 31 so I only really recall 80s/90s/2000s. If anyone wants to go back further feel free, I know guys like Ham, Lydell, etc built this program but never saw them play.
Here is my list.
80s - Blair Thomas, DJ, Conlan (Pete the Greek close 4th)
90s - Kerry Collins, Aaron Harris, LaVar (Dan Drogan close 4th)
2000s - Zug, Mills, Poz (MRob close 4th)

I'm ten years younger than you
so I don’t remember the early 90s (although my first PSU memory is watching the 95 Rose Bowl because my dad went (I could be mad now, but I don’t think I would have appreciated at the time what it really meant and what almost was that year). My first game at Beaver Stadium was in 1997. I saw Curtis Enis play, and while still not having a great understanding of football at the time, I remember seeing how dominating he was on the field.
So 90s, I can only give it to Enis since he is really my first in person memory of PSU football.
2000s:
Poz, Hunt, and probably MRob (although any one of the Wideout Trio could slip in there, or be a very close three-way tie for fourth). There are so many from the 2000s I could put in there, this was a tough question.
Enis and Harris were the best PSU backfield ever. As a combo there were sick.

I might suggest that the best backfield tandem was
the other Harris (Franco) and Lydell Mitchell. They had over 2251 yards rushing in 1971 in a shorter season. Even though Franco had a great career at Pittsburgh, he was basically a blocker for Lydell. The Lions were 11-1 in 1971 only losing to Tennessee.
Curiously, since we talk a lot about scheduling here, we played a two game series with Tennessee in ’71 and ’72. Bill Battle got Joe to play in Knoxville both years. Tennessee won both games. Penn State only lost 3 games in 71 and 72, the two Tennessee games and Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.
That is curious
Thanks.

I forgot to mention, although I guess it kind of goes w/o saying
but obviously I meant Enis pre-gift accpetance, pre-stripper marriage, and pre-Attending-Ohio-basic-peace-officer-academy
No kidding
Had Harris not gotten his knee blown out, they would have gone undefeated in the regular season. Those two pounding everybody would have been unstoppable and set up the passing game. McQ had his moments and would have had more with the defenses respecting the run so much.
Blogging about D.C. Baseball since April '04. Penn State alum. Also partial to the Washington Capitals, New York Yankees and Yale football.
Some of my favorite players
From the 80’s I would go with Curt Warner, I had his poster in my bedroom and just because of that he was my favorite player for a while
Blair Thomas is an easy pick, but I liked Gary Brown because he came from my hometown and we played basketball together, he was an exciting player to watch.
From the 90’s I liked Kyle Brady just because he was such a stud and a stand up guy. I felt like after Kerry Collins graduated and had trouble with not wanting to play and alcohol issues it lowered him in my list. But I also really liked yeboa coday (? sp) and ki jana carter from that team.
My favorite recent player is Mrob with Dwill close in second.

This Curt Warner poster?

Pure Awesome.
Black Shoes. Basic Blues. No Name. All Game.
"Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the mouth."
Sweetness!
I totally rocked this one on my bedroom wall. Tell me this image is your personal work from your personal poster and you’ll be my hero!

No, mine was in a PSU uniform carrying the ball
And after seeing your poster I take him off my list.

don't remember 80s or much of 90s
So of the 2000s,
1)MRob (2005 was my freshman year)
2)Tony Hunt (why does he not get more love from you guys?)
3)Poz
(The smurfs, Connor, Sean Lee, Tamba, and Rodney Kinlaw are all ties for 4th)
"Welcome to Tangares base. You’re just in time for the dance party. I’ve arranged a dancing partner for you. DANCE TO THE DEATH!"
lol i'm 21 and just graduated
but before i came to PSU, all i knew of penn state football was Larry Johnson (the RB).
No joke. That was IT. When I found out that Kyle Brady, Bobby Engram, Ki-Jana Carter, Lavar Arrington, etc, when to PSU, my reaction was, “lol wut? o rly?”
I grew up in NJ with two parents who went to Rutgers, so I was raised (as much as you can be, given what RU was until Schiano) on RU football.

I picked Hunt as well above
The fourth quarter drive vs. Tennessee alone is enough for him to make my top three. They couldn’t do anything against that kind of strength and power, even with their “incredible speed”. But his attitude, and selflessness made him a true PSU legend, and an even better reason to pick him in my top three.

I agree. Hunt was a stud but didn't have that extra gear.
Also from the 80’s were Gary Brown/Richie Anderson. We had some awesome RB’s.
Yeah, I was always a fan of the fullbacks
From Suhey to Lawlor – you had to love those guys that ejjoyed blowing up a LB just as much as carrying the ball.
