Givens too cool for prep school
So apparently Darrell Givens did not get good enough grades in summer school and will not be able
to enroll at Penn State. LJ Sr. recommended that Givens go to a prep school and then come next year. But that didn't jive with Darrell so he has chosen to attend another school. He is now considering several schools and surprise surprise Florida is one of them.
In my opinion, if you aren't willing to go to prep school in order to get your grades up, like Clark did, then you should have never called yourself a Nittany Lion in the first place. Hopefully Derrick Thomas gets the grades this summer so that he can be ready if we need him this year. At least this opens up another scholarship.

Is this for real?
Do you have any sources for this?

Apparently Rivals is reporting it, I don't have premium
Wow, if this is true we’re better off w/out him.

i just don't understand how you get poor grades in SUMMER SESSION
seriously, about 90% of the classes offered in the summer are a JOKE.
"Welcome to Tangares base. You’re just in time for the dance party. I’ve arranged a dancing partner for you. DANCE TO THE DEATH!"
sign of things to come
Honestly, we have enough knuckleheads on this team, we don’t need another one. I love LJ Sr, but he really knows how to pick ’em.
I never want to be that school that takes any kid with talent and ignores their academics, that’s not Penn State.

Givens
This is the same kid that decommitted from Ohio State and picked us because he thought our depth chart looked like he could play right away. Now with this it’s pretty apparent he’s one of those kids always looking for the path of least resistance. Unless he gets his head screwed on straight he’ll never play a down of Div. I-A football.

I feel like this kid just had ridiculous commitment issues.
He was a Buckeye, then a Lion, and now he expects to be a Gator.
And ditto on the LJ picking the special ones.
Wow
And for some reason, I got a really good vibe from this kid. Of course I don’t even know him… but whatever. Better off without him. Good riddance if this is true.
Kind of a funny day
we get Royer…wooowooo…. but get bad news on two of our incoming Freshman.
I was looking at Givens for big things. I guess he was just another high-potential jock that didn’t get it. We are better off w/o him.
Hope the Mason thing was a teenager just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Hey Lion on the Lake....
You got the wrong Derrick Thomas in your link! I hope we didn’t give a schollie to a long snapper!
Or were you just playing a joke on us…you Devil, you.
Him not going to Prep school is his decision...
but it seems he may have thought he was lied to by the staff. Apparently he did what he was supposed to but still did not meet Penn State requirements. May not be entirely true, but that doesn’t also mean that the school doesn’t make mistakes
Lets let it all play out and hopefully he ends up being a Lion.

Edit: My link didn't show up.
There was a report by another site probably citing the same message board person on Scout, saying that Joe Pa is going to the University to try to clear everything up. If it doesn’t work out though, this kid is highly sought and someone will make a gain out of our loss.
It double sucks that he plays a serious position of need for us.
