Robert Bolden Deciding; Paul Jones Not Hopelessly Crippled

Two quick QB recruiting notes:

Robert Bolden will hold a press conference on Friday morning ($) to announce his decision.  His final three is narrowed down to Penn State, Louisville, and Oregon.  After 15 minutes of Googling, I can't even find evidence of him even visiting Louisville or Oregon.

Paul Jones recently broke a bone in his ankle playing basketball, but now says he'll be ready for his senior season at Sto-Rox.

So, yeah.  Good deal.

Paul Jones highlights, because I have a pretty good feeling you'll see a Bolden highlight reel here on Friday morning:

Good News all around

Paul Jones playing in his senior season is great. It will be interesting to see how he progresses.

Um, wow...

Maybe it’s just that all the years of hearing about how JayPa only has a job because of his last name have taken their toll on me, but I never would have believed that we could be potentially looking at a recruiting class that includes two top-ten (according to Scout, anyway) quarterbacks. At the risk of getting all Lemming-y here, I’m becoming truly excited about our prospects for the next few years.

Love it

The best part is when PJ is asked if Bolden joins as well, would that could has him look else where.

“Not at all”

Sounds like a winner.

I’m just happy Bolden isn’t going to those shitbag asshat sonsabitches at (I Hate) Michigan State.

Don't worry

Notre Dame’ll take em down early.

Seriously, everyone knows you root for the meteor in that game.

What makes Oregon the trendy school to add to your list?

Is it the uniforms? The weather? (i kid, i kid)…

It seems every year a QB adds them to the top 3, only to turn around and not go there…

Louisville is a mess and i’m not worried about them at all.

Friday…should be a great day…

They had a good run with Dixon

He was amazing as a dual threat QB, and I think kids might imagine themselves in that role there. Plus the uniforms are cool, and the grunge rock scene is bitchin.

seriously

I would hate to be an Oregon fan during recruiting. “Awesome, we’re loaded with potentially 5 top 10 QBs coming into this class” only to then not land any.

Anyone know who he is? he seems too be wide open on a lot of the throws that PJ makes but it looks like he is kind of small

Thanks

I was too lazy to google myself. At 5’8’’ I don’t think he will be picked up by any D1 school

Beat me to it
  1. is one of Adam DiMichele’s little brothers (His other ones play at Robert Morris and Holy Cross). I used to play football on that field, and let me tell you that I got more bruises and scars from the field than from tackling/being tackled

I knew I'd get a reply on that from you

and the funny thing is, a couple kids had to be taken out on an ambulance the one year we played them. Although we couldn’t blame their injuries on the field conditions

It must have been brutal serving the guys water on that field.

No, our waterboys did a helluva job

after carrying out the option for a TD, they were very prompt getting us water after we scored *cough*cough*5*cough*times*. The one kid in our backfield currently plays for North Carolina, the other is quarterbacking an IM football team, can anyone say star-studded backfield? Guess which one I am, the first or the second

WOW

Pretty certain Grosz mentioned that this will be the first time EVER that we could have a #1 QB class in the nation. Can’t think of when in history that might have been the case…getting decidedly harder to cry nepotism when it comes to Jaypa

if they fulfull their potential it will be damn near impossible.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating

I think we jumped on the Fire Jay thing a little too hard in retrospect. I believe Mills was a decent QB who unfortunately managed to play in the worst part of PSU history, and with numerous injuries. MRob was a great athlete, but even coming out of the dark years, while that may have been a desperation move, he evolved from a near awful QB to one of the saviors and heroes of recent PSU history. QB14 is a blemish, but if NFL coaches (although saying he was “severely undercoached”) couldn’t help him develop at all in AZ, you can’t place the blame solely on Jay for QB. Then this year was incredible, with Clark a 2* QB recruit rising into our starter, and leading us to a B10 championship, and the design and execution of the Spread HD.

Yeah, he has his faults, but in recent years, it sounds like the positives are finally outweighing the negatives.

JayPa is slowly digging his...

way out of the mile deep hole he dug for himself as recruiting coordinator in the late 90’s until Big Red took over. While the recruiting coordinator isn’t personally responsible for every recruit brought on board, it is my understanding that they are the “quarterback” for the recruiting effort. The dark years a largely a result of the awful recruiting strategy at the time.

Maybe recruiting just wasn’t Jay’s gig. He proved that again in the Michael Shaw debaucle. Chad Henne stated that he didn’t want to go to PSU mainly becasue of Jay.

I think at the time there was plenty of ammunition against Jay. However, I’ll agree that last year could be the start of an upward trend. Hope it continues, and if so, credit should be given to Jay.

If we’re going to give credit to Jay, then we should also start giving credit to Curley! After that: Osama Bin-Laden! After that: Iowa!

I'm happy for Jones

I was really pulling for him for a quick recovery, and now it sounds like he’s going to make it after all. Good luck to him with the recovery, and congrats on being able to make your senior season.

And for I know this was said through his teeth, but I’m glad he’s being humble in regards to Bolden, even going as far as to say “It will be good for him.” Like I said, he could have said that and not meant it, or be quietly pissed about it, but if not, it shows a great PSU attitude already.

by dawsonPSU10 on Jul 8, 2009 5:18 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That Jones highlight reel is really impressive

The kid has a cannon, even on the run. And despite being considered a “pro-style” QB, he’s got the size, and pretty good speed to be a dual threat. Can’t wait to seem him in blue and white.

Time?

What time is the announcement expected? And I assume that all of the Holy Triumverate of BSD Administrators have access, so a siren will be in wait at that time? I just want to know what exact time to hit the refresh button…

Unfortunately I probably won't have access to a computer since I'm going to arts fest

So I wont know until Sunday. Maybe I’ll have to slip into the hub and use one of the free terminals…

I am certain

If Bolden commits to Penn State you may hear about it while at the bars during Arts Fest

That's true...

someone might text him.

(Weak attempt at lampooning Dawson for thinking that actual interaction between humans sans computer is not possible.) or maybe he’s just a BSD addict and chooses to only receive his PSU info from the grotto.

Just fyi, I'm the second option there

Despite being 21 and in college, I hate texting people and only do it to set up meeting spots with friends where nothing can be misunderstood. Much like an instant message, or to a lesser extent a comment on here, its yet an other frustrating way to have people misunderstand you, or not catch the sarcasm, or emphasis you’re trying to put on a word, that gets misread in a different context.

And actually, I might be able to check on Friday at home

due to an unforseen family emergency that happened after I wrote that, we had to delay going up there today, and we’ll be leaving sometime in the afternoon Friday hopefully assuming there’s not anything serious that comes up. I really don’t want to miss the reunion dinner at the Gamble Mill with some of my parents’ friends from college when they were at PSU in the 70s, they’re always entertaining.

it looks like everyone thinks

PSU, Oregon and Louisville are the leaders for his services.

Since Bolden holds offers from all 11 Big10 schools (plus another dozen) theres’s a decent chance he shocks us and picks a dark horse like Wisconsin or Northwestern.

We've got a great shot

but like I said on another thread. I never let that excitement overwhelm me to the point where I’m extremely pissed if something goes wrong.

by dawsonPSU10 on Jul 9, 2009 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't follow much of the other B10 teams stats or schemes at all

But wouldn’t he be a horrible choice for Wiscy? Bolden is a dual-threat QB in an offense that has about three pass plays to their TEs. The chance he’d pick that over a school that’s going to let him use all their weapons seems crazy to me. I know nothing about NW except that they lost a heartbreaker last season when they went to the alamo bowl and almost upset a potential heisman candidate.

by dawsonPSU10 on Jul 9, 2009 5:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

the same could pretty much have been said about PSU

before we modified our playbook after Texas’ when we figured out how to use Robinson.

The idea of Bret Bielema adapting his offense to fit a dual-threat quarterback makes me LOL.
