Maybe our OOC Schedule can be awesome
There is an article on collegefootballpoll.com that has Temple finishing the season 11-1 (their only loss is at Penn State) and ranked #22 in the nation. They said that the computers have them playing for the MAC championship as the winner of the east and as this year's Ball State.
I hope they are right not just for our schedule but it would be nice to see Golden doing well. Also it would be nice to have an in state rivalry with a team that can actually play well.

Nice find…
that would be great… for us and Temple… 11-1 not so sure about but a solid 8 or 9 win season would also help.
What about ‘cuse. what if they turn in a .500 mark this year. That’s not terrible…
I think the challenge is overcoming the preseason perception of the OOC. even if the OOC schedule goes on to have good-to-great years, the weak perception is already ingrained in people’s head… kindof like last year with Oregon State… They were a game away from the PAC10 title and a trip to the Rose Bowl but we never received recognition for playing that game…

Hey, they blanked Pitt
…and as any Pitt fan will tell you, holding an opponent scoreless the last time you played them is the ultimate form of domination.

LOL
That sounds awesome. I always pull for Temple.

Hey man...
I’ve always thought Temple was improving. All of the most recent games had them flash and come out strong. Of course they eventually fell off when they reached the 2nd half, but they could run the MAC. At least I hope so.

This site also has Michigan State going undefeated
and finishing 7th in the nation.
OSU going 11-1 (loss to USC) and finishing 9th in the nation
PSU going 10-2 (loss to OSU and MSU) and finishing 15th in the nation.

Somehow I don’t think 10-2 is going to get us less than 10th overall, is this guy assuming there’s 6 undefeated teams? How the hell does that make any sense? We were 11-2 last year and finished 8th.

well I think it's assuming at least 7 undefeated teams
unless there’s a 1 loss in the top 6 (Alabama is projected 6th, with a 12-0 record as well). I couldn’t find a projected final poll, but just through clicking through some of the teams, that’s what I saw.
Also, these projections were not counting championship games or bowls, so with that, we were 11-1 last year.

I’m sure Michigan would still find a way to go 4-8

I'm down
I’ll have absolutely no problem pulling for Temple to whack the MAC and Cuse to bounce back at the expense of the other scrubs in the Big East, like Uconn:

They could go 27-0 and win the Super Bowl
and no one would notice because they’re “Temple” and not ZOMG OLE MISS1
I mean, OrSU had a good team last year, but no one bothered to notice or mention it when discussing PSU. It was just about how much SU, Temple, and someone or something known as Coastal Carolina collectively sucked ass.

OOC schedule
I wouldn’t be surprised if our non-conference schedule in retrospect isn’t quite as crappy as it appears in pre-season (though it won’t get us any credit either way). Partly because, as this mentioned, Temple could actually have a good run in the MAC — they’ve been pretty competitive in recent years, but have gotten some bad breaks (like the blown call against UConn and the last minute loss to a Buffalo).
And I oddly think Syracuse will take a step forward this year with new leadership. Not that they’ll be a powerhouse, but I envision maybe 2 or 3 Big East wins plus a couple non-conference. They’ll be a dog, but more like a mediocre dog, not a craptastic one. Or they could suck; we’ll see.
I don't know how much to read into this but
Akron fans also thing they’re going to be fairly decent this year. Haven’t done the research on Akron so this could be out of the blue homerism or we could be looking at three decent teams on our OOC. Obviously I hope for the latter. I agree on Cuse’ taking a step forward this year too. Hopefully all of these things fall into line and SoS will become a boon to our season.

You'd never hear about it on ESPN in regards to us
but wouldn’t that be classic Zug divine justice? The “boon” on our schedule eventually turns into a somewhat positive thing (granted we should still be scheduling better opponents). It might never happen, but it actually gives me another glimmer of hope for this season.
Yeah it would be
You’re right though that it probably would never be mentioned by ESPN. Just like Oregon State.

We could play, and beat, U$C, tO$U and UF every week
and they would find a way to turn it into a bad thing for PSU

Well, one problem is that Akron plays Indiana, Syracuse and Temple. And Syracuse also plays Minnesota and Northwestern. So, if one element of our schedule looks good, it’s possibly coming at the expense to another team on our schedule.
Of course, you can have the ideal world where something like Cuse goes 0-3 against the Big Ten and then rips off a 7-0 record in the Big East to win the conference. But I’m not holding my breath.
Best bet
Being somewhat reasonable, the best bet for us would be for either Akron or Temple to be a quality team for the MAC and go to the championship and also for Syracuse to win a number of games and be bowl eligible or close. It doesn’t matter much what Eastern Illinois does given their 1-AA status. Something like:
Syracuse: 6-6 with wins over Northwestern, Maine, Akron, Cinci, Pitt, Louisville
Temple: 10-2, losing only to PSU and Navy and going to the MAC championship
Akron: going 7-5, including 6-2 in the MAC (losing to Temple/Indiana/Syracuse among others)
While that wouldn’t make our schedule look good, it would at least make it avoid looking historically awful and if Syracuse can get to 6 or 7 wins and make a bowl, that would give them much more luster.
But again, not holding my breath.
