BREAKING: Eagles sign Vick
I know this isn't really PSU related, but I'm curious what BSD's Eagle fans have to say.

I have always been one to (cough, cough, choke a little) forgive and forget
Go EEEAAAGGGLLEEES!

I'll jokes aside
I kinda like this pickup as McNabb insurance.

PERFECT!!!!!!!!

aside from all the steelers fans making jokes in my facebook feed, I don’t really give a damn. I stopped caring about the eagles and the nfl when I discovered the infinite joys of college.
I do mean to start following the bills a little more though this year

I honestly didn't see this coming, at least not with the Eagles
I’ll be honest, I had just written about a paragraph that was less than favorable of his past history, and the second chance he’s been given, but I’ll take the Rambler route and stay out of that here. Despite living near Philly I’m not really an Eagles fan, or a pro football fan for that matter, just a PSU fan (I would however yield to a pro team with a good PSU history, but haven’t been wooed yet). But having lived in Philly, I have watched more than a few Eagles games with friends, so like SN20, said above, it’s probably good for McNabb insurance since he’s starting to get up there in years.
The one positive note I can take from this is that they’re not giving him a gigantic salary. He’s starting off with 1.6M for his first year, which will bump up to 5.2M in a year, definitely not the numbers he started his career with.
yeah, not a giant salary
It’s a shame when you leave prison and have to start all over at MORE THEN A MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!
Sorry. I am crabby tonight. That OSU guy in another thread ticked me off

Technically...
It’s not a two year deal. It’s a one year deal worth 1.6M with a team option to pick up the 2nd year, which, if they do, will be worth 5.2M. That means that, if they keep him, in 2010-2011, they will be paying McNabb around 11M and his backup around 5M. Sounds unreasonable. I think this might be a one-year thing barring serious injury to McNabb. That said, I was floored by the news. Didn’t see it coming at all.

I've been meaning to check in with this post.
As I explained to some friends elsewhere: Okay, okay, look. Vick is going to play for a guy who (a) because of his family situation, knows the value of second chances, (b) trusts Tony Dungy’s judgment, © goes out of his way to protect his players from the douchey Philly media, and (d) isn’t expecting Vick to step in at QB, anyway. So this is okay. Relax. It’s fine.

Hey
If any of you Eagles fans are turned off by this development, I just want to take this opportunity to remind you that there is another Pennsylvania NFL team that DOESN’T sign convicted felons AND wins championships. You may have heard of them. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind a few more fan additions to Steeler Nation…

The Eagles are dead to me

I am now a Buffalo fan, a little bit of a Seatle fan, a little bit of a Detroit fan, and a…
ok, honestly, i just root for PSU players out there in the NFL, and yes I still root against players from our rivals. You will never see me with a former ND, OSU, Mich, or Pitt player in my NFL fantasy football.

I don't like it
Vick is obviously an electrifying player, but he never really became a passing QB, and while it is all well and good to rush for 1000 yards in the NFL, that’s typically something I would want to use a running back for. I know he’s not a terrible passer, but there are better options out there for QB than Vick that won’t bring all the unneeded attention from protest groups. Also, I kinda like dogs, and kinda don’t like Vick.

oh, and there was no pun intended when calling him an "electrifying player"

would like a word with you on that pun.

I agree
Most of what ticks me off with McNabb is his alarming lack of accuracy at times (and throwing up in Florida). The running joke of any receiver the Eagles brought in was that no matter how good he was previously, he’d need to learn to catch throws at his ankles or 5 feet behind him, not in stride. I’m not sure how much Vick does to cure that. The added dimension of throwing out of the wildcat is interesting. I really have no idea what’s going to happen.
Based on what I heard this
morning on tWWL, Philly is a big dog fighting town. Apparently the Eagles went to the Mayor and the SPCA prior to his signing for approval. Prepare for major spin control.

I got nothin
I’m a big Birds fan but this, I’m just meh. I have no problem giving the dude a second chance because the Rams gave Leonard Little a second chance after he killed that woman, Ray Lewis got a second chance, so did Jamal Lewis. As long as Vick knows what time it is and acts like a model citizen, I’m fine.
The NFL has plenty of criminals in it: men who beat their wives/girlfriends/jumpoffs (see LJ), beat their kids, many who fight dogs like Vick, etc. Vick is one of the few who got caught.

I'm all for second chances
but certain crimes, like pre-meditated brutal torturing and killing of anything (yeah yeah, I’m all for swatting mosquitoes and all) just don’t seem to deserve “second chance”.
And there is more than just a casual link between people who torture, abuse, and kill animals, and people who do the same to other humans, for anyone that was gonna throw out “it was just a dog”.

I'm in total agreement with you
And I don’t believe for one second he’s been “rehabilitated” by prison. I’d be willing to bet cash money he’s more pissed off about all the endorsement and salary money he lost more than the dogs he tortured and killed.
Someone demented enough to do that to any living thing (again like you said, mosquitoes aside since they kill more people than people probably do) in the first place doesn’t just “see the light” after under two years in prison. That kind of reckless uncaring for another life was learned at a young age, and is almost impossible to just forget.
YOU ARE SO WRONG
about the mosquito thing. We probably kill more. Everything else is true!

I can't believe I looked this up, but I was right
Worldwide, malaria is a leading cause of premature mortality, particularly in children under the age of five, with around 2 million deaths annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
And that’s only malaria, it isn’t counting other diseases transmitted by mosquitoes like West Nile virus, Dengue Fever, Yellow fever, etc., so the death rate will be
According to the WHO:
Humans have a remarkable capacity for committing violence against themselves and others, causing 1.6 million violent deaths a year — half of those by suicide, according to a new study from the World Health Organization.
I wouldn’t count suicides in there so that brings it down to 800,000 people murdered that year.
Oh I misread you
I thought you were saying mosquitos kill more people than we kill mosquitos. But I’m surprised that one is true as well.
