NFL Preseason / PSU Player Watch Open Thread
I'm excited to see some of our 2009 draft picks play today, here's the breakdown:
| SAT, AUG 15 | TIME (ET) | TV | LOCATION | |
| Atlanta at Detroit | 4:00 PM | NFL | Ford Field | |
| Chicago at Buffalo | 7:00 PM | NFL | Ralph Wilson Stadium | |
| Cleveland at Green Bay | 8:00 PM | Lambeau Field | ||
| Tampa Bay at Tennessee | 8:00 PM | LP Field | ||
| Houston at Kansas City | 8:00 PM | Arrowhead Stadium | ||
| Seattle at San Diego | 10:00 PM | NFL | Qualcomm Stadium |
Atlanta: NO ONE
Detroit: WR's Bryant Johnson, Derrick Williams, Safety Clavin Lowry
Chicago: DT Anthony Adams, Kicker Robbie Gould, Guard Tyler Reed
Buffalo: (no Maybin) LB Posluszny, CB Lydell Sargeant, Safety Bryan Scott
Cleveland: NO ONE
Green Bay: Punter Jeremy Kapinos
Tampa Bay: TE John Gilmore
Tennessee QB Kerry Collins
Houston: NO ONE
Kansas City: WR Bobby Engram, DE Tamba Hali, RB Larry Johnson
Seattle: WR Deon Butler
San Diego: NO ONE
I wish I could find a way to look up their numbers but it's probably more of a pain then it's worth. Also I doubt the 3 games that aren't on NFL network are even televised outside of regional coverage, so good luck with that.

Cool, this is just what I wanted to know.
I watched Shipley quite a bit in the steelers last game and he looked good. He got into a little shoving match with a lineman at one point, and played the whole time I watched the game.
I hope he does well but I went with Butler as the best player for long term career. Wide receivers seem to be able to hang around a long time in the league.

Williams
Williams has been in the 1st string offense, I’m not sure he started but he’s been in there quite a bit. Only one pass in his direction, an over thrown ball on the post route to the endzone. Williams also returned a punt all of 5 yards. He wasn’t in on kick-off returns, so that’s interesting.
As long as Culpepper is QB I doubt Williams will get a catch this game, he is simply terrible. Hopefully Stafford has the ability to stand in the pocket and throw the ball, all Cullpeper has managed to do is scramble out and run, he even put his shoulder down and took a few hits running up field. In a preseason game, that’s about as stupid as it gets, just ask Charlie Batch (sustained a season ending injury last year b/c he lowered his shoulder for extra yards running in a preseason game).

He did return one kick off (probably after your post)
And it looked good, out to the 32 and he just had one more guy to beat to break it.

Williams TD
Just caught a nice long TD in the endzone with great coverage, Stafford threw a good one and williams came down with it. cool.

I'm glad to hear he is playing WR
I thought I had heard they were just planning on using him just as a return specialist. I wish him only the best, and that’s a nice start, even if it’s a pre-season game.

I had heard that as well
they still might though, during the regular season.

Bills game
Anybody seen Poz? Or any of the other PSU guys? I haven’t been paying much attention, even though the game is on.

Running through the box scores
and I noticed Lydell had a pick. Aside from Williams’ TD, that seems to be the highlight of the day yesterday.

Butler
I DVR’d the game, not thru the whole thing, but so far Butler had a few catches, returned a few punts, he looks really good. Tj Hushmanzada (sp?) had some good things to say about Deon during his interview, said he’s small, but he likes him a lot. Said he wanted to go back in the game to fight somebody after Butler took a good shot and the CB celebrated.
Compared to Williams, Butler looks faster and seems to run his routes better.

Butler
I voted for Butler simply because that man has more heart than anyone I’ve ever seen. I’m not sure if he’ll ever be a marquee player, but he’ll always have a home.

Maurice Evans on the Giants
Had a forced fumble, too.

The only thing that'll keep Evans from making the final roster cut
is that the Giants have about 47 other extremely capable offensive lineman to sort through.
But it was a nice reminder of what a motivated Mo Evans looks like (on the football field, at least). The real shame is that he wouldn’t be fighting for a spot on the roster as an undrafted free agent if he had decided to show that same energy in the games he played in last season.

Agreed
He looked really good, physique-wise, too. You can tell he’s motivated. Glad to see him doing big things again.
And am I the only one who found J. Leman, the protector of all things free… to be kind of annoying? He seemed to play well… but there was some noticable and slightly unnecessary swagger going on.
