Stranded in CA.....need help
I'm a PSU alum who has just moved to San Jose, CA. I'm hoping that there are some fellow PSU alums/fans on this site who also live in this area who could tell me where the Penn State bars are. I'd be willing to make the hour long trek to San Francisco even to watch the games. Please help. The thought of getting up at 7 AM for PSU games at 9 AM is daunting enough. The mere thought of missing games just because of my new location is unacceptable.
Thanks for the fanpost! Please do not post any content from a premium site that requires a subscription. Also, if you just want to share a link consider using fanshots instead. Thanks.

After being T-Raped in the bay area
for a year and a half, I sadly report I have no idea. The 9 am kickoffs were tough enough and there are a few bars in SF I hear, but that was too far for me to go that early/hungover. My usual plan of attack was to Tivo the start of Gameday then wake up at about 7:50 or so, mix a bloody mary, pop some breakfast strudel into the oven to warm up and eat while fast forwarding through the TEEEbow lovefest to get to the part about PSU (though I’m still wondering why I do this).
I also wish I was staying in the area. I also live in San Jose…at least for now, near the intersection of Oakland and Brokaw in North San Jose. Unfortunately, I’m moving back to my native land of Minnesota this Wednesday. Its kind of a long story, but short version is I get to go back home. But I’m not moving ALL my stuff at the moment, and I should be back in SJ for a week or so this fall to finish some things. When I’m back in town it would be cool to catch a game with an actual person rather than the crazies I found here on the interwebs.

No idea about any bars...
but it appears the Big Ten Network is going to stream the games live. This article states the service is for people living outside of the U.S…..but I find it hard to believe that people living in the States would be restricted from purchasing the games.

BTN online
You may find it hard to believe, but it’s almost certain that the BTN won’t allow US-based people to purchase the online package. The concept is entirely for people outside the US to be able to catch BTN games since they don’t have the network proper (it doesn’t hurt to make some money in the process). But within the US, they want people actually purchasing the BTN itself and having it be on more TVs. They’d rather people put pressure on any provider who still doesn’t carry the network than to offer an easy out for fans.
Anyway, for the specific question of the OP… obviously checking out the PSU alumni site in the area is a good start. But have to checked out Comcast (which I know exists in at least part of the Bay Area) or whomever is the local cable provider to see if they actual carry the BTN? You might need to get a sports tier, but they might carry it. Also, you could certainly sign up for DirecTV, Dish Network or Verizon Fios (if the latter is available in your area) all of whom carry the BTN on a national basis at some level of service.

I’m actually a Cal fan, and the only part of the bay I’m not well familiar with is San Jose. That said, I have lived in the Bay Area for six years, and the problem is most of the Pac-10 are pro-sports towns (the real reason why the SEC/Big-10 dominate us in revenues). College football then gets pushed to the side, and you might have trouble. Nonetheless, San Francisco has every type of bar imaginable, and if you google it, you can probably find one. In fact I did, and I found this

As for San Jose, I’ll ask around tomorrow.
